  • One of my favorite IPS kits by far, trimming the shell is a bit challenging but it can be done.

    Thanks dude this was heaps helpful! Got it installed in my stock purple CGB first go following this. I used a grinding stone attachment on the dremmel. Worked a treat

      Awesome! Nice work, and the grinding stone is a great idea I will try that out.

    Looking forward to doing this mod myself. You made it look easy! Will definitely be revisiting this a few times. Congrats on 100!

    Your video made me confident enough to try and do this mod on the OG shell. Kudos!

    It’s cool to have a laminated LCD in an OEM shell with authentic quality, even though a lot of work is needed to fit the LCD in an old shell!

    No wayyyy in hell im doing all that trimming on an authentic shell. But you did it and the more power to you. I just bought the ips ready shell and saved time.

    Nice to see the Q5 2.0 ips mod with an OG shell. Also, it would be a good idea to invest in some chisel blades (I use the x-acto #18 blade) for those plunge cuts around the screw posts and some files for those sharp edges. Anyway, Thanks for the video. 👍

    thanks for the tough job. it is helpful. my q5 ips v2 is bad, no screen, checking with funnyplay.

    • @iretromods2963
      @iretromods2963  2 года назад

      No problem, make sure you properly connect the power wire to the switch.
      But it does happen I actually just had a bad one as well but it’s the first out of hundreds I did so far.

      @@iretromods2963 Today, Funnyplay replied my q5 ips v2 is the newest, might be v2.2. touch pad is embbed and power wire needs to solder to the right. now its working normal. Just a reminding, the v2 ver has variants, so it needs to check the installation steps different also.

    So helpful! I wouldn't have attempted this if I hadn't seen your video! Do you have a link for the scraper/chisel too you used?

    I recommend buying a decent surgical scalpel instead of an exacto knife.

    Think a Stanley knife would be better and stronger for this

    Thanks for making this video I been wondering about doing this lcd mod on one of my GBC's but I didn't want to use the premoded shells they use.

    Hey man nice tutorial. White attachment/cutting wheel are you using on the Dremel? When I use the brown sandpaper looking wheels it melts the plastic on the shell making a mess everywhere. Cheers man!

    Just buy a Funnyplaying ready made shell for this mod and save the integrity of the original shell. It's only 14 bucks.

    • @iretromods2963
      @iretromods2963  2 года назад +1

      Yes you can definitely do that to make things much easier, but some people prefer all original shell and buttons

    What temperature did you set your soldering iron at? Thanks!

    • @iretromods2963
      @iretromods2963  2 года назад +2

      I generally have mine set at 780F for quick soldering, don’t leave it to long on the ribbon cable at that temperature as you risk burning it up.

      @@iretromods2963 Ah, I see. Is having it at 350 degree Celsius (662 F) any issue in terms of melting solder? I haven't soldered since over 15 years when I was in high school, so I'm still a novice and I don't wanna mess up my ribbon cable, hence the questions.
      I've seen other videos do this without applying flux --- I have flux, but is putting too much flux bad? I don't have any small tool to put a small amount of flux so I have to resort to using a cotton ear swab.
