I wish I had the money for a game collection as good as yours! I went to the London Gaming Market, I went wearing a T-shirt of the Raven from Hilda and despite my haul not being as good as yours, my budget only being just over £100, I still got a good few things, my biggest scores being Golden Sun and Advance Wars 2 for the GBA, Fortified Zone for the Game Boy and Wild Gunman for the NES! I also got a CD of the Xenocrisis soundtrack!
I remember Revolution X really sucked. I know, you’re completing the set, but that really needed a gun Ren and Stimpy I remember was ok, but the humour was spot on and was what got me to keep playing. Great vid Mike, its always interesting seeing what games other collectors still need to pick up. Quite a few of these I have bought myself in the last 6 months - good to see Battle Squadron getting some attention. Didn't Zany Golf also come in one of those EA clamshell cases?

Yup, it's stupid expensive now. I had some of the really expensive games from when they originally came out but I still have some sickeningly expensive games to get.
Batman and Robin came in a cardboard box for the Genesis...I can't stand those boxes. The ones you have are minty, though! I was jealous after seeing your copy of Gaires, cause I'm still waiting for mine. I like how you separate your black boxes from the blue boxes. It looks really slick when you have the amount of games you've amassed!
Ali's Heavyweight boxing is actually a pretty good boxing game for its time; be sure to use the simulation controls; you have to switch to them in the options menu; it makes a big difference to play the game that way and is much more precise. Battle Squadron definitely stood out as a weak vertical shooter among early Genesis games in the genre. Exosquad was a sweet cartoon; too bad they couldn't make a game that did it anywhere near justice. Arrow Flash is to horizontal shooters what Battle Squadron is to vertical shooters, but still a little more playable. Gaiares is a classic; a little too challenging but still a top notch quality effort. Big haul there for you overall.
Thanks Mike for your enlightening once again! I would love to get my hands on Gialres and Chaos engine (which falls under the same genre of metal dragon, SMS time soldier, NES Guerilla warfare, all the good stuff). Battle squadron looks like a not-so-nice version of Xenon2 by Bitmap Brothers, u should check out Xenon2, it is so under-rated.
Hi Mike, great channel and video. I couldn’t attend the July London games show, but you’ve picked up some great games there. Question - how do you get a feel for what the fair price is? I get the obvious - don’t buy on eBay fixed price offerings etc. but is there any other easily available (and updated) data?
I've kind of got a feel for what I want to pay. About a year ago I listed the prices of private sales and I've used that as a bench mark. But prices are stupid at the moment so I sometimes check previous Facebook sales to double check.
Parabens Mike... Gosto muito do conteúdo do seu canal porque tambem sou um fã do Mega Drive... desejo muito sucesso para você e seu canal e obrigado por nos trazer sempre as melhores dicas e novidades do nosso poderoso Genesis.... Abraço !!!! 🇧🇷🤝🙏🕹🎮
Now that's what I call big boy collecting. Was every manual printed in black and white near the end of the mega drive's life time? I hope your thinking of making a tour video of the collection when it's eventually finished.
Yup, all black and white. They were squeezing every penny they could out of those games. I will definitely be going over the collection. About every 6 months I do a big update looking at sub collection's and hardware.
Little surprised to hear you didn't like Soleil/Crusader, I mean it was probably aimed at younger players/people new to RPGs (and the walkthrough section in the manual supports that wholeheartedly), I still enjoyed the graphics and gameplay very much. The story wasn't the most complex, and the writing was a bit 'engrish' in places (though thankfully not as bad as Zero Wing), I still found it charming
It was ok, but I found it quite simplistic. A lot of people compare it to Zelda, but apart from the art style they are two very different games. I was hoping it would rival Story of Thor, or Shinning 2.
Great work on the game collecting Mark. Just one question. How long ago did you get your copy of Gaiares? I preordered mine the same month that window was open and I'm seeing other big channels show off their copy, but I have yet to receive mine. North American region I am btw.
@@RetroGamerBoy yea I was thinking that. I bought from LimitedRun games. That must mean they're handling production of some of the orders on their end, which might mean I'll be waiting till next summer for mine (hopefully my exaggeration is not an accurate one)
@@RetroGamerBoy My friend saw Volume 3 in a CEX window and asked if I wanted him to get it for me. After seeing your video I got him to makes sure the cart was the correct one!
I have Soleil on mega drive, it's a wonderful game exactly because it's simple. The translation is very bad, but it's overall a charming, fun and beautiful looking game. Shame you didn't enjoy it.
I think expectations had been set too high for me. It's not a bad game, just overly simple. For example people compare it to Zelda, but it really isn't close to that. The world is level based rather than open world like Link to the Past.
@@RetroGamerBoy it's not like Zelda at all, it's also more janky than Link to the Past, but I don't mind because it has a very unique atmosphere and feel to it plus it wasn't overly difficult at all which I like in my games. I understand where you're coming from tho.
Yup I only just got it. Fat sonic is brilliant, but I see what you mean about being unplayable past level 2. His stupid fat body can't jump over anything.
The MD prices were not at stupid eBay prices, I've got my best deals from the market this year. Although some stalls did check eBay for prices. I just walked away from those.
Quick question Mike. As a collector does a Mega Drive Mini 2 hold any appeal for you? I’m a huge fan of the mini consoles and this one will have CD games so has some extra appeal to me but I’m curious what you think.
Did you collect the cricket games: Brian Lara Cricket for the UK and Shane Warne Cricket for Australia? Also what do you think about the upcoming Sega Mini Drive 2?
I'm just missing Shane Warne. I like the mini console's although I've still not got the MK1 mini. To be honest any spend on gaming goes into the the original MD collection.
Mike finally picked up Solei. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH He talks shit about the game BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! Gaiares was also released on the Evercade as part of the Renovation collection 1
I stopped buying rereleases. The original games were cool though. I have about 4 of them, some USA editions. Never understood why folk buy filler though even for a complete collection. My MD gene collection is bigger than it needs to be and its about 100 strong.
@@RetroGamerBoy I suppose if someone in the future wants a full set without doing the foot work you will be the man to go to. Do you know anyone who has the full set?
Oddly, I just bought a Wii U. I don't even know anyone else that owns one, so I figured why not. It has a pretty small physical library and is cheap to collect for. Honestly though...what a fucking moronic device.
Waste of time, when you can get retro console with 1000's of games, including full lost of mega drive games. Love retro gaming, but these retro game systems are better, all the games with low footprint and play exactly the same
I guess I don't find it a waste of time so I continue with it. Emulation is great though and does a great job of bringing classic gaming to the masses.

Thanks for the rundown. I'll give Mohammed Ali some more time as well.
I've actually got it in the collection, it's a great Shmup.
You're such a bloody nerd Mike, and that only makes me love your content more!
I prefer massive nerd.
Would love a Megadrive full set and I do pick odd one up now and again but I’m on a full set Master System mission with only 4 to go.
No way, which 4?
Abraço !!!! 🇧🇷🤝🙏🕹🎮
It's always great to meet another Sega Mega Drive and Genesis collector😁👍
Nice collection
🤘😝🤘
Not sure if it's coincidence or the algorithm, but the guy in the commercial for this video is British too. lol
Really 🤣
Now that's what I call big boy collecting. Was every manual printed in black and white near the end of the mega drive's life time? I hope your thinking of making a tour video of the collection when it's eventually finished.
Yup, all black and white. They were squeezing every penny they could out of those games. I will definitely be going over the collection. About every 6 months I do a big update looking at sub collection's and hardware.
My latest pick ups this week have been George Forman K.O Boxing and Greatest Heavyweights 🥊
Oh I forgot and Nba Showdown
There are quite a few sports games to get through.
Revolution X! Music is the weapon
Indeed. Wish it supported a light gun
@@RetroGamerBoy it's a pretty average game at best really.
I just had different expectations based on how it was described to me. It's not bad, just simple.
@@RetroGamerBoy Fair enough, yea I guess if it was misrepresented then there's not much you can do
nice collection! i have just subscribed...
Awesome, welcome.
Soliel is one of my favorite Mega Drive games ever! I can’t believe you didn’t like it. 😰
I think the guys who reviewed the game got theirs direct from Retro-Bit. The other stores are probably still waiting for deliveries.
@@RetroGamerBoy yea I was thinking that. I bought from LimitedRun games. That must mean they're handling production of some of the orders on their end, which might mean I'll be waiting till next summer for mine (hopefully my exaggeration is not an accurate one)
Chaos Engine is Sick!!!! Played co op on SNES.
Have you played the Amiga version? It’s far superior to the console versions
Holaaas
My first experience was on the Amiga at my mates house. It so amazing to play.
Some great additions, I am very jealous! It does look like the cart for Mega Games 6 is volume 1, sadly.
It's is. I am not very happy about that. At least it's easier to replace the cart. But still, I should check more closely next time.
@@RetroGamerBoy My friend saw Volume 3 in a CEX window and asked if I wanted him to get it for me. After seeing your video I got him to makes sure the cart was the correct one!
Have you ordered Attack of the petscii robots for the Genesis from the 8-bit guy?
Nope, I didn't even know that it existed. Off to Google I go.
You only just got Earthworm Jim 2 or is it a replacement in the collection? I grew up with the Saturn version and its epic
Yup I only just got it. Fat sonic is brilliant, but I see what you mean about being unplayable past level 2. His stupid fat body can't jump over anything.
What were the prices like at the London Gaming Market? Ebay/CEX levels? Was tempted to go but hear a lot about the silly prices at these things.
Holaaaaaaaa
The MD prices were not at stupid eBay prices, I've got my best deals from the market this year. Although some stalls did check eBay for prices. I just walked away from those.
So did you sell a kidney or not? 🤣 Great games got Soleil this month to!
I've been selling parts for years, I'm a husk of a man now😅
I have Road Rash and at least one other EA game in the soft case, bought in Australia.
Interesting, I'll need to see if the UK also got one in that case.
@@RetroGamerBoy loads of our early Master System games came in similar soft cases too, they are very hard to come by in good shape
Quick question Mike. As a collector does a Mega Drive Mini 2 hold any appeal for you? I’m a huge fan of the mini consoles and this one will have CD games so has some extra appeal to me but I’m curious what you think.
It has a huge amount of appeal as I'm not just a collector but a huge fan. But unfortunately all my game money is going on the collection.
Indiana Jones will make you cry.
I get the feeling that it may break me.
@@RetroGamerBoy I got stuck on the boss at the castle level and that was me done lol. You get past that you'd have beaten me.
@@RetroGamerBoy Ah. All the best :)
@@RetroGamerBoy By the way, one thing. You should change the spelling error to Shane or else you might get roasted by some fans.
@@Zahir658 oh ya😂 I'm sure he had some shameful games though.
@@RetroGamerBoy That's true though.
Fuuuuuugging amazing
🤘😝🤘
Great collection of the best console ever. What about JP games ?
Maybe one day, but that is going to cost a fair bit.
👍
😁👍
Great that you included the pronunciation of Soleil. It is Revolution X by the way, not the other way around. Pretty bad game though.
Yay it is not great. It should've had gun support.
Mike finally picked up Solei.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
He talks shit about the game
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!
Gaiares was also released on the Evercade as part of the Renovation collection 1
Yup I competed 100% and was just underwhelmed by it. I think I set expectations too high.
Man. That's a pretty ridiculous market. Bout damn time you buy some games, I know it's been 3 days since you got one lol.
You should have seen Sega Tom, he was kiddy with excitement.
Sword of sodan has a clamshell (Y)
That's true. I have the original case which is the game I was after.
Have you got world championship soccer 2 blue box yet
Nope, I think that one may have to come from a private collection as I've never seen it on something like eBay.
@@RetroGamerBoy I was out bid on it on eBay about 10 years ago 😞 you did well to get lakers vs Celtic’s 👍
have you already got xeno crisis on megadrive
Yup, I backed it on Kickstarter.
I stopped buying rereleases. The original games were cool though. I have about 4 of them, some USA editions. Never understood why folk buy filler though even for a complete collection. My MD gene collection is bigger than it needs to be and its about 100 strong.
Different think make different people tick I guess.
@@RetroGamerBoy I suppose if someone in the future wants a full set without doing the foot work you will be the man to go to. Do you know anyone who has the full set?
so many repro megadrive snes n64 games about at the moment getting harder to tell.
It's a challenge for sure.
Dude, money no object, you can probably build this a lot cheaper but don’t look like you care 😅🤣
I do want to get a good deal on my games, but the prices just keep going up.
Oddly, I just bought a Wii U. I don't even know anyone else that owns one, so I figured why not. It has a pretty small physical library and is cheap to collect for. Honestly though...what a fucking moronic device.
My wife and daughter having been playing Hyrule Warriors every week for the last 6 years on the Wii U. It's a stupidly over engineered controller.
Damn you didn't like Soleil??! 🫢 One of the best 16bit action RPGs imo. Good selection there some really great games congrats 👍
Ya, I'm really disappointed. I finished in under 6 hour 100% and it just wasn't what I was hoping for.
