Wow you did an amazing job capturing the ecosystem and showing your respect for the land. Thank you for taking away the old net. Mother Earth will appreciate that and the sea animals. Showing the pristine forest is amazing so little of it left around the world. Good to know the island is protected ❤
Other than holding your paddle upside down when you first paddled away from the boat, you did well Emillie. Indeed a pine Martin, lucky you for seeing him. You’re making memories and having a great adventure, well done guys
😂😅 Haha! Good thing the paddles work both ways! We really are lucky, and it make us so much more happier that others are about to enjoy this experience along with us! Thank you for your support!
Your videos really capture the west coast. The views, the forests, the chill off the ocean in the morning. These are the things you will never forget! 🎉
I had a Marten get into my shed where I had hung a 1/2 side of a steer, the little guy loved eating the tenderloin, I had to get up twice in the night to scare him away, the second time he hid between the rows of firewood I had stacked. I took the fire extinguisher, released the pin and shot a solid spray between the stacks. I could hear some coughing and the little guy took the hint and never returned. We had a "pet" weasel that used to come visit the garden to sleep and once was at the front door, when I opened it, he came in, walked about checking things out and went back out the door. You'll have some great stories to tell in years to come about your experiences. Thanks for sharing all of this. You are not alone!
Great footage. Yep! That's a Marten! The cutest, most destructive little guys if they get in your buildings....😅. So good to see you enjoying the wilderness. ❤
I love watching your videos. I have been homesick for the West Coast Islands. That was a Pine Martin/Weasel. I didn't know seals went up that far either! That was very shocking!
Thanks for your support! We have definitely fallen for the West Coast, makes you feel more alive. We were pretty blown away by the seals too! Love that we can see what’s going on in the forest with these cameras
That king tide was crazy. We had some business on the waterfront get a wet. I’ve lived in Prince Rupert all my life and have never seen a tide like this one🫣❤️. Your videos remind me of how much I miss Haida Gwaii
Thanks for sharing. Really like the nature shots, but also just the making of a meal clips. This is a fascinating adventure. Glad to get a small flavor of it via your videotography. Be safe!
Happy I found your channel - what an awesome experience you are having! I wish I had done more travel when I was younger. Now I’m retired I am trying but my fall trip just ended short - my RV broke down and is still 800 miles away waiting on a transmission with no ETA 😪 At least I have RUclips! You guys seem to have a great relationship which I am sure helps you through the isolation. Keep the videos coming please.
So glad that I just came across your channel 😊 Wonderful photography and narration!! I feel like I’m late to the party though. Now I’ll look forward to each new episode. I spent $5k to spend 3 days fishing there this summer and loved it ✅ Can’t imagine the value of 8 months 😂❤ cheers 🥂
Hahahahahaha! 😂😅 I shouldn’t laugh, but can’t help it. I was right about the first 2 cameras. … the first got rubbed off and the second managed to get one last photo before it died by a playful bear! What can I say! It’s highly entertaining. ❤❤❤ It took me a few tries to find a good place for mine so it gets not eaten or used as a toy for my wildlife here in Alaska. On a serious note don’t use a tripod for your camera. It will never work, animals are not really scared and don’t care about the private property of others the same goes for the ocean as I could see. At the end of the season you will be a pro when it comes to protecting your gear! Hoping for great photos and videos.
Looking at the weather radar it looks like you guys might be experiences a pretty good blow this weekend. October 27th. Winds to 60 knots and seas to 30' just outside.
great blog you guys! a question though. why kayak so far into the shore? looks like you could take the whaler in a LOT closer to the shore, cutting down risk.
Thanks! The tide moves in out quite fast and can drop a significant amount in some spots. Sometimes we don't know how long we will be exploring for and the beaches here tend to pretty rocky so we anchor out deeper so we don't have to worry about damaging the boat. And the little bit of extra physical activity is nice after being stuck in the lodge.
I don’t know what kind of little animal it was but he’s so cute you almost want to bring it home. Good on you guys kayaking and boating, it looks cold. We kayak but we’re on big water so its often too rough to go out on it. Greetings from Manitoulin Island, Ontario (the largest freshwater island in the world)
He was such a cutie! His coat looked very healthy and fluffy, he must be getting a lot of Omega-3's. We have never been to Ontario before but we plan to in the future. We just learnt that you can actually surf in Ontario on the lake, which was a surprise to us!
Always so special to see wildlife!
Wow it is so beautiful there ❤
The scenes are unfathomable beauty. Love the eagles. The little curious fella was adorbs. Your bravery is an example.

😂😅 Matt laughed as he walked up to the cameras laying on the ground and said you had called it!
I think we were vacationing in Campbell River when you had the big storm in week four. It was a real blow and they had to shut down their ferry.
Looking at the weather radar it looks like you guys might be experiences a pretty good blow this weekend. October 27th. Winds to 60 knots and seas to 30' just outside.
We have heard it is going to be a rough one but are glad we have our little safe haven to hunker down in!

What does Matt keep in the black plastic bag when kayaking? Camera equipment?
Yes, mainly camera equipment but also our day pack with our snack, water and emergency equipment.
I was just wondering how the pipes don't feeeze over the wintertime if you guys don't run a heat source throughout the lodge?
There is a heat source, There are boilers here that we only run when it gets chilly, in order to conserve fuel.
Will you get snow here?
Yes! We have just got some this week! Not much but i am sure there will be alot coming this winter!
No rifle??
