This video was made in 1970, on Zakir's first visit to the USA. He and Aashish Khan (keeping taal next to him) had a guest residency at UW Seattle, under the ethnomusicology dept. set up by Robert Garfias. I was there. . .
Isme kaunsi badi baat hai. Pandhara matraki Savari bajaneka simple tarika is tarah se hai. This is my creation. DHA DHI DHI NA DHA DHI DHI NA TE TE NA DHI NA DHI NA. TABLA KE SAAT GHARANE JANNEWALA EKHI TABALJI HO GAYA USKA NAM HAI LATE MANIKRAO POPATKAR A MARATHI MAN.

Ustad Ji looks like he was about 17! I was fortunate to attend master classes with him at the University of Washington in the 90's. Incredible experience!
Log unglio se Tirket bajate hai, Ustad ji ne purey hath se bajakar dikhaya hai, Shiahi ko purey hath se cover kiya, Awesome, This is called Punjab Gharana, Power + lehkari. Thank you Srikant ji
Omg! What a delight!!!!!😍 Also thanks to those who took the video and uploaded it. 🙏🙏 It's by far one of the best videos capturing Ustad Zakir Hussain Ji's exemplary performance!
He himself has said this so many times, that it is all packaged as a combined audio-visual experience. It adds another layer of excitement and joy of a solo that people enjoy looking at the tabla player rather than just listening to him/her.
It happens automatically......when u will play any instrument or sing u will understand that body automatically react like that......these things require too much concentration and calculations and requires all level of ur senses engagement all at once...it happens with me also but in another way when I do vocal practice or kathak practice my expressions unintentionally become like that when speed goes up because I use all of my senses all at once....even when we play video games with concentration our body and head starts to move while having remote in our hands nd doesn't mean we are showing off while playing video but its because our concentration and all senses are engaging just to play that video game.

Zakir was born on March 9, 1951. If this video is from 1970, he was 19. This is the earliest video of Zakir I've ever seen. It's a total gem.

Um, no. Ustad Aashish Khan is grandson to ustad Allauddin Khan and the eldest son of ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
I am sorry, I meant Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. My apologies for a bad typo
Debayudh Chowdhury YES
He's a good player but has a tendency to show off. He's an attention seeking drummer with head shaking behaviour. His father was much down to earth.
I think he’s just living it up.
