    some background about this duet. This was played in Goa, there was a gap of an hour between the next performance. The organizers requested these 2 legends to play and this what we get to hear. A rare recording indeed

    Talking of Zakir ji's background he is practicing tabla as early a child can. Being son of a already a Ustad. He is personally taught by Thirakwa Khan and many others giants. On other hand Swapan chaudhary has no background of tabla. His mother was singer. He learnt tabla from Shri santosh biswas who was also a bank employee. Swapan ji got fame only because of U.Ali Akbar Khan. Zakir was already a star in west because his father. Swapan ji only played Lucknow all his life while zakir ji was into punjab, delhi, farukhabad, ajrada and western fusion. But see the clarity of bols Swapan ji plays, perfection of tihai's. His collection of gats, tukdas is wider than Zakir ji's. And dhere dhere played by him was kaida rela. Zakir ji's dhere dhere was only rela with no kaida composition. Zakir ji is sure 10 but Swapan ji deserves 11/10.

      Actually the master of swapan ji..Pt.Santosh krishna biswas was a ganda bandhan shagrid of Ust.WAJID HUSSAIN KHAN..the king and khalifa of lucknow..he made the lucknow gharana as popular as everybody would came to knew..that there's a gharana as such..btw..swapan ji learnt too much Delhi style also from his guru..he plays delhi very well..i have heard him..

      Both are the God of table. I seem pt. Swapanji is maha pandit with his profound knowledge, collection, calculation and gharanadari. At the same time Jakirji also the son of Saraswati, super creative, an all time great accompanist, an outstanding entertainer percussionist and acceptable for all illiterate and Pandit musicians.

    • @aryantipnis1020
      @aryantipnis1020 3 года назад +1

      surely this is true. but just think other way. ustad zakir hussain ji has a wider sense for accompaniment than panditji. tabla isn't just solo. Second thing, it takes hard work of many births to gain such a birth in the house of such a great player. And the last thing, carefully hear Ustadji's praisings to Panditji. He still has a great amount for Panditji. And same is Panditji to Ustadji but he praised a little less. So definitely a 10 for Panditji, but Ustadji deserves an 11

    • @NakulBohra
      @NakulBohra 3 года назад +5

      Swapan dada has praised him a lot. You haven't heard it until now. Zakir ji is 1951 born whereas swapan dada is 1947 born. Swapan dada is playing tabla when zakir ji was born. Swapan ji has accompanied almost everyone. See his official website. He accompanied U.Ali Akbar khan from 1970s to 2008. Swapan dada runs Ali akbar khan institute of music in california. I'm not comparing them. I'm saying swapan dada's riyaz is more tough. You can play thirakwa khan's bols easily with practice like zakir ji does, but you can't play kayda rela, dhir dhir, gats and chakradhar as perfect as swapan ji. If you're zakir ji's fan congrats. He is more of a entertainer. A global figure with handsome face. But nobody comes near swapan ji when it comes to perfect nikaas, dhir dhir and collection of bols.

When , I first saw jikir ji in Kolkata performing with Tejenji in Science City , Kolkata , may be more than decade . I just shared my feelings with my wife as " he is next to God " in this craft. often it is said that earlier Panditji and Ustadji playing together was "Dhir Dhir" vs "Tirkita"
    and quite true
    6:37 in this Kayla rela Panditji played Dhir Dhir
    9:56 Ustadji played tirkita in his Kayla rela
    33:22 Dhir Dhir rela by Panditji
    36:14 tirkita rela by Ustadji
    but to be fair Ustadji has also played Dhir Dhir and Panditji has also played tirkita with the efficiency.
