It was so fun to watch the expression on your mothers face as you read. She was captivated. I look forward to Friday...and spending time with you and your mother. Just delightful!
So look forward to my Friday treat with you two gorgeous ladies. I cooked with you today to take to friends for a Halloween supper after tricking and treating with the little ones. Thank you for the care you take with everything you do.
Hello Miranda and Donna🥰...this video was the ABSOLUTE BEST 😂😂....I laughed so hard, listening to you read from “The Canterville Ghost” and when Donna read OMG!!!🥰💕 it was so moving, going from laughing to feeling so deeply was AMAZING...and when you mentioned you Dad gave out the full size candy bars on Halloween, the kid in me would have found a way to circle back around to your house so I could end my trick or treating night with at least 3 full size candy bars😂😂...Have a great Weekend Miranda and Donna...thank you so much for this video🥰 oh I almost forgot....I’m making that pumpkin loaf... I just need to grab a can of pumpkin 😊
How nice to know more books that are spooky but not scary! Today I backed the scones you have presented, in two versions, one with the fruits and another with bacon in small pieces and parmesan cheese. Delicious.Tommorow is the day for the second Dorset apple pie. Now I know that pumpkins are not only good for soups, new adventures with them are planned.I love the fridays more than the any other day of the week since you are doing these videos.Thank you!!😋😋😋😍😍😍
Another great recipe. Can’t wait to try it out. Unintentionally on Halloween I made pumpkin risotto. Great tea reads. Always love seeing both you and your mum have a book chat and bake.
Thank you for the Halloween reading suggestions. I have never baked with pumpkin before, but I do love carrot cake & walnuts, so I will definitely give your recipe a go. I really look forward to ending my week with your Tea Reads videos, very grounding & inspiring!
Another lovely video! I love pumpkin, all through November and December is my pumpkin baking. I love pumpkin bread, pies, cakes, muffins, cupcakes etc., yummy! The books sound wonderful. I would love to read them. I love Nella last, her books are so good. I love diaries and hers are very good, and like Donna I love to pick up her books and read her diaries every so often. I hope both of you have a wonderful HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🎃
Another delightful Tea Reads episode. I thoroughly enjoyed the excerpts from both. I have never read The Canterville Ghost, and found your description of it almost as hilarious as the passage you read out Amanda! Donna’s reading from the wartime diary was very moving. As a mum who’s boys are now 21 and 18 I frequently remember funny or touching incidents from their childhood, and can not imagine the terror of sending sons off to war. I am very glad Donna explained that Cliff appears later in the diary under happier circumstances. X
Happy Halloween Greetings from Canada! My mom has a collection of the "Company is Coming" cookbooks, and she loves them for muffin recipes. Lovely to see them being showcased. Pumpkin loaf has always been a cherished recipe in our family. One of our favourite versions is to fold in just under a 1/2 cup of chocolate chips before adding the batter to the loaf pan. Chocolate & pumpkin are a match made in heaven! I highly recommend you give it a try one time. 🎃
Hello Donna and Miranda, that looks such a delicious loaf thank you for another great Friday read and bake. Donna, I too got to know The Listeners by Walter de la Mare at school and still feel a spine tingling thrill whenever I read it as an adult. I don't know why but it has reminded me of the BBC's Singing Together which I loved as a small child in the 1960's and in particular the song "The Minstrel Boy" . The lines "The Minstrel boy to war has gone, in the ranks of death you'll find him, his father's sword he has girded on, with his wild harp slung along behind him" have stayed with me my whole life and the lyrics would make a great read at this time of year. Enjoy your Hallowe'en reading, Teresa 🍂🧡🎃💛📖🤎🍂
I love making a braided pumpkin yeast bread with crystallized ginger and golden raisins. I also managed to get some quinces, so I'll be making quince butter this weekend. I would definitely have been coming to your house as a child for the full size candy bars. Your choices for reading were wonderful. Such a good combination of funny, touching, and spooky! Happy Halloween!
Hi! I was thrilled to learn you're half Canadian! Lol. I'm Canadian as well. I love pumpkin everything at this time of year. I loved this video as usual, and I love how you include your mom in them. I was very close to my mom, but she passed away eleven years ago. I always enjoy seeing your mom and you talk, because it reminds me of my mom and I. I plan on finishing reading Wuthering Heights on Halloween night. Its my first time reading it and I'm loving it. Happy Halloween to you and your family, Miranda!
I'm so glad to bring back happy memories of your own mother. Thank you for your lovely comment! Hope you had an enjoyable weekend - Wuthering Heights is certainly a good pick for Halloween! xxx
What a hilarious video, it made me laugh out loud, I couldn’t stop chuckling, which drew some interesting looks from my family. I was watching with my AirPods in, it gave them a bit of start as I’d just been quietly curled up on the sofa 😂😂. Loved all the books, which I’d like to add to my collection, feel a challenge coming on with Honeysuckle Cottage 🤓. You and your mum are such a tonic in these crazy days of COVID confusion 😍. Not a spooky book, but I’m currently really enjoying reading Lady Audley’s Secret, it feels appropriate for the season, given its setting; whilst it has its dark moments, the style of writing has a real charm and a sense of whimsy at times too, I was hooked from the first page.
BOOOOOO!! Happy Halloween! My husband and I buy the full sized candy bars too!! The kids LOVE it! Unfortunately not this year with Covid.....I am loving these baking videos! So fun! The mantel is so festive too! GREAT job! Your mom is such a delight! You gals will be having your own talk show like Oprah soon!!!
Hello from Canada then! 🙋🏻♀️ You two seem to have travelled the world! The cake looks amazing and it’s definitely all pumpkin stuff right know! Tea, coffee, muffins, everything!
I love pumpkin bread… the first one I ever made pumpkin bread as a teenage with my mom we made it in coffee cans…. ❤️enjoyed your baking .. and the warm conversation about your holloween favorites❤️❤️
Wonderful episode, Miranda and Donna! I enjoyed the extracts you read very much. The pumpkin cake looks delicious. I haven‘t come across canned pumpkin purée here in Germany, but I‘ll surely be able to order it online. I really must read The Canterville Ghost! Happy Halloween! 🎃🍂
Thank you, Marion! I would imagine tinned pumpkin is probably available online. Hope you manage to find some. And I so recommend The Canterville Ghost! xxx
I'm watching this video two years later. I was delighted to learn that your recipe is from a Canadian well-known Company's Coming recipe book. I love pumpkin loaf and muffins. So enjoyed this video! Thank you.
So much fun with your passionate reading Miranda! I used to read Goosebumps horror stories to my little brother and cousin but we always ended up laughing just like you and your mum😂🥰
Yay, I have that Daunt's edition of The Canterville Ghost which I got last year but never got round to sitting down to reading. Now is indeed the perfect time to read it! Thank you for reminding us to take/carve time out for ourselves to indulge in literary and sweet treats.
Wonderful video! I love how cozy your room is - so beautifully decorated, too! Your pumpkin loaf looks delicious. I just wish I liked pumpkin more. I always look forward to when you and your mom read out loud. Such a treat! Another comforting and inspiring Tea Reads- thank you so much for sharing! Must add more books to my TBR :D (Btw, I just finished reading 'The Stranger Diaries' and it was fantastic!) Happy Halloween weekend to you and your mom! xoxo :)
What a great combination of frightening and funny reads. When you were teaching, Miranda, did you work with younger children? You're reading was just delightful. I can envision a circle of enthralled little listeners at your feet. I just added a can of pumpkin to my shopping list...!
Oh, The Canterville Ghost was one of my favourite stories when I was little and I have not thought of it in years! I need to dig out my copy, had forgotten how brilliant it is. Thank you both, happy Halloween!
I know I've seen a film of the Canterville Ghost but haven't read the book. Another one to add to the list! Your reading was delightful. I'm definitely going to try the Pumpkin loaf cake recipe - I have a can of pumpkin puree in the cupboard which needs to be used. A ghost story I enjoy is 'The Ghosts' by Antonia Barber, it was made into a delightful film as The Amazing Mr Blunden.
What a lovely mother/daughter relationship; a treasure.
Thank you! We are very lucky! xxx
It was so fun to watch the expression on your mothers face as you read. She was captivated. I look forward to Friday...and spending time with you and your mother. Just delightful!

@@MirandaMills I did, but I'm jealous of yours! I might invest in it as a little stocking filler (any excuse).
Miranda, cherish the memories with mum. I bake a pumpkin pie with phyllo dough as the crust and add nutmeg to my recipe.
