  • AI-generated content has opened up a new front in the Israel-Hamas war. In a New York Times investigation, reporter Sheera Frenkel reveals how an alleged Israeli campaign on social media attempted to alter the narrative, and influence American lawmakers, after the horrors of October 7th. Frenkel speaks with Hari Sreenivasan about this new front in the propaganda wars and its effect on American foreign policy.

Al- Jazeera has been a mastermind of PR, turning go pro terror attacks an action movie for the devotees and creating a screen actors guild of victimhood for the terrorist enablers in Gaza. Rebroadcasting dead and destruction from Syria as Gaza, the use of flour to claim children were in a bomb zone when they weren’t and then the mangled truck that got a quick wardrobe change with UNRWA food sacks and posters. What is it 22 Muslim countries, millions of Muslim on Muslim deaths, famine the whole Muslim/ non Muslim world could care less. Christians are murdered en mass, religious structures desecrated and no comment, no marches. Israel is attacked by an arm of psychopaths raping, burning families alive, torturing, mutilating people( infants through the elderly) kidnapping the living and dead again the media, including Ms Amanpour are flippant as to how dare Israel try to address the rampant false narratives/ propaganda. Ms. Amanpour can join the BS pedaled by Al- Jazeera, BBC, Sky News, CNN et. al. I am not buying any of it.

Frankly, it's nearly impossible for Israel to win over the conscientious minded. Witnessing their Hasbara kick into high gear since 10/7 has magnified the vacuousness of their catch-all, ready made, rehearsed and rehashed arguments. Anyone who weaponizes a genuine problem (ie antisemitism) to the extent they have, have already lost. Journalistic voices with integrity in their own regional media have disproved countless claims popularized in the US media used as subtext to raze Gaza and further terrorize the West Bank.

@@ShankarSivarajan Thanks for asking. It was Benjamin Franklin's "if we can keep it" wishful thinking about our newly formed republic. That votes are more persuasive than cynical business expenses has also been my lived experience, as well as that of many countries' populations who proved they had what it takes to draw 3.5% of their neighbors peacefully into the streets to drive change. I refer here to a BBC article by David Robson, reporting on research by political scientist Erica Chenoweth into comparative change-making by violent versus non-violent protest. Studying over 300 instances over the last century, she found that nonviolence was twice as effective as violence, with the adjunct fact that about 3.5% of a population is the magic number to make change. Our most recent proof here in the U.S. was the 4 - 4.5% of Americans in 2020 whom Black Lives Matter led in the streets after George Floyd's murder. With about twice that proportion of Israelis protesting in 2023, I believe they were on the cusp then of the changes we see happening there now. While 10/7 interrupted that momentum, it didn't - and, based on historical and current results, cannot - stop it. Recent reports are that Gazans are vocally expressing some of that same energy about their leadership.
We can apply the 3.5% rule again in the United States, this time to stamp money out of politics. If one hundred Americans persuaded just two friends and neighbors to persuade two friends and neighbors and so on every week, we would have the necessary twelve million Americans ready to march money out within three months. And we would.

    • @ShankarSivarajan
      @ShankarSivarajan 3 месяца назад

@@doctor_fever That'd be a bit more than 10 million people for the US? Okay, that sounds like a reasonable estimate: if you have that many people strongly in favor of a single concrete policy, without a similar number is strong opposition, I'd agree it's likely to be implemented.
However, I think you're mistaken about what it is the Israel protests last year were for: it wasn't in favor of the Palestinian rights or "international law."

Remember 1948 Deir Yassin massacre = Palestinian Auschwitz committed by the survivors of the holocaust. Boycott apartheid genocidal Israel. Don’t be the last to condemn the colonial apartheid state like you were in South Africa.
The Zionist apartheid colonial outpost is controlling ALL aspects of our lives. It is though NOT prepared for what the new generation is witnessing live on social media directly from occupied Palestine. Thanks to the social media and spread of information, Palestine is finally freeing us from this plague.
No state has a right to exist, but every person does. Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Rhodesia and countless others are states destined to fall and they did. This one is no different. Criticizing Israel is NOT anti-Semitic, the same way criticizing Saudi Arabia is not anti-Islam, criticizing Myanmar is not anti-Buddhism and criticizing India is not anti-Hinduism.
Demolishing the apartheid state would be OK and in fact be the only way to save everybody including the Israelis. The two-state solution is no longer possible. Zionists stole ALL the land. The only solution left is ONE demilitarized secular state under international control with ALL people with documents showing ownership rights related to the land between the river and sea. We need to abolish all racial and religious favoritism. Refugees should be allowed to return if they so wish. We need to dismantle the apartheid colonial state. Peace will NEVER be realized without justice for all.
The answer is very clear and everybody should support it. One country from the river to the sea with the two peoples living together in a democratic system is the only solution. Such unitary binational state is advocated by several former Zionists and current historians including Miko Peled, Ilan Pappe, Gabor Mate, Norman Finkelstein, Barnaby Raine and others and supported by the majority of the Arab population of Palestine. The imperial colonial Zionist outpost is not working and it would NEVER work.
At the height of the extermination campaign conducted by Nazi Germany, they killed 127 children per day in Auschwitz. In Gaza genocide, the Zionist apartheid ethno-national state killed 139 children per day. See the difference for yourself.
“Denying people the right of return to their homeland, and at the same time offering this right to others who have no connection to the land, is a model of undemocratic practice.” -Israeli historian Pappe
“Since its establishment, Israel has engaged in brutal oppression of the rights of Palestinians. Thousands of Palestinians are imprisoned, beaten and tortured; children are taken from their beds and beaten by soldiers who are armed to the teeth.”-Israeli historian Miko Peled.
"I am a freedom fighter- says teenager Ahed Tamini, the Rosa Parks of Palestine in her memoir “They called me a lioness, A Palestinian Girl’s Fight for Freedom.” This book is an eye-opener and a worthwhile read.
Plan Dalet, the blueprint of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian villages and towns started in December 1947 and was FINALIZED by the High Command of the Zionist leadership on March 10, 1947. Not a SINGLE Arab army soldier had entered the Palestine/Israel before the Zionists declared the birth of their state on May 15, 1948. By then, more than 300000 defenseless civilians had already been massacred, expelled, raped, and mutilated and more than 300 villages and towns emptied, destroyed, torched, and imploded with dynamite under the watchful eyes of and with the support of the British soldiers and police, who left the country on the fateful day. The Zionists even ran out of dynamite because of the extent of their barbarity. By the end of that year, 20000 civilians had been killed and 750000-900000 defenseless civilians, 85% of the population who had lived in the land that became Israel, had been rendered refugees. 530 villages were destroyed and depopulated.
Zionists criminals even murdered the Swedish diplomat Count Folke Bernadotte, the UN peace envoy in Sept 1948 because he was a witness to their crimes. He objected to the Zionist plan of ethnically cleansing Palestine of its native inhabitants. He, by the way, as the head of the Swedish Red Cross, had helped in the release of about 20000-30000 inmates from the Nazi concentration camps in Germany during WW2.
Videos and resources you might find educational: Warning, they may be difficult to get because of censorship. Hundreds of books were written on the subject too. It is VERY easy to get informed.
We cannot and should not prohibit freedom of speech to anyone, least those who oppose our government's fascist and violent tactics against our youth, our students, our academic institutions, and our independent journalists.
The King-Crane commission set up by Woodrow Wilson and approved by the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 concluded that the Jewish minority of Palestine, 6% of the population at the time, would need the help of a minimal of 50,000 British occupying force troops to establish the Zionist dream promised by the infamous Belfour declaration. The British colonial force ended up needing 100,000 soldiers to crush the Great revolt of 1936-1939, during which 14-17% of the male Palestinian population were killed, injured, exiled or imprisoned. Pretty disgusting history.
Destructive ideologies mirror the calamities they produce and often become defined from the perspective of their victims. Just as Nazi ideology produced the Holocaust and Afrikaner nationalism generated apartheid, Zionism similarly birthed the Nakba. Zionism is not only racist but anti-Semitic, and anti-Semitic not only towards Arab Palestinians, but also towards Jews. Europeans invented the racialist conception of the "Semite" and the Zionist movement adopted wholesale anti-Semitic ideologies destroying Jewish cultures and languages in the Diaspora, thus ultimately leading to the transformation of the Jew into the anti-Semite and the Palestinian into the Jew.

It is NOT really a democracy when you only have two political parties both of which controlled by a foreign entity. They are two cheeks of the same foreign Ass. Choose your favorite fascist leader in November in the latest charade of episodic meaningless polling. The MSM is the latest tool of the 1492 colonization project. That is why they object to what the decolonizing movement the liberation of Palestine represents. Thanks Palestine for waking us up.
"You have the right to free speech only because no-one listens to you" Shaheed Bolsen, 2024.
Exactly what Democracy IS.? The Right to episodically vote, NOTHING else.
"Liberals condemn every war and atrocity except the ones being carried out right now. Liberals support every liberation movements, unless they happen to be ongoing."
If this genocide is not halted, it will presage a new world order, a world where the old rules more honored in the breach and observance no longer matter. It will be a world where nations with vast bureaucratic structures and technologically advanced military systems carry out in public view massive killing projects. The industrialized nations weakened, fearful of global chaos, are sending an ominous message to the global south and anyone who might think of revolt ‘’ we will kill you without restraints and no one will stop us. One day you will all be Palestinians’’.

In this day and age I would think that if a congressman gets a letter from someone claiming to be experiencing antisemitism on campus or any other problem then that congressman would first have some staffer look into the person sending the letter. Do they actually exist? Do they live in your district? Do they attend the school they claim to be attending? Is the return address or email address on the letter their actual address? If it were me I'd have the staffers do this for every letter that comes in. It's not that hard to pull up the voter registry or somebody's LinkedIn profile or even call the school. And if I actually wanted to talk about that letter in a speech or make policy based on it then I'd go further than that. A congressman can't afford the hit to their reputation that would occur if they get conned by some Israeli spy or Russian bot or whoever.

I doubt AI can replicate the sophistication of those who actually contribute and provide broad historical perspectives that are not hard to fact-check. It would help if you could provide a specific example to back-up your claim. Plus they have historians as guests - something you’ll never witness here - who have been studying the history of Palestine and Israel for decades and continue to do so. One must consider multiple perspectives to reach an informed opinion. Germany and France are interesting. But nothing is as intriguing as watching journalists who have broken ties with mainstream media and do what they love doing - reporting.

On October 7th, Palestinians staged armed resistance at a music festival, inflicting mass casualties.
Decades of oppression and an Israeli blockade keeping them segregated from the Jewish Israeli population.
Reported bombing campaigns access to food, clean water, electricity
and basic utilities has led to malnutrition and desperate living conditions.
Settlements in Gaza and the West Bank have displaced Palestinians who are subject to violence against them by Settlers and IDF police.
Is a full scale war, killing nearly 40,000 people, mostly civilians and children and wounding more, the appropriate response?
This was clearly revenge and an attempt at genocide.

People with limited 'internet literacy' might not notice, but it's pretty obvious that that was used for one of the "anti-semitic campus crisis" things going around. Probably also not a coincidence that Forbes suddenly decided Ivy League students aren't so great if you want good workers - the timing is probably not a coincidence. I bet they still make more money and get better jobs, even though, allegedly, CEOs and business leaders don't seem to think they are much better.

This thing is more than just fighting for Palestinian rights...this is a big part of the problem.
From what I have seen people in the west are incredibly uneducated about the whole situation and certainly it only makes sense for Israel to do this kind of thing...because this is just the way the world works nowadays and they don't have any room for error. People should try and feel what it must feel like being the only progressive country in the middle of theocracies and cultures that want to destroy you.
