Los Angeles doesn't need new buildings for the 2028 Olympics. What they need is transportation without using private transportation. Public Transportation is the key on transporting hundreds of thousands of Olympic visitors for every venue.

Traffic was virtually nonexistent for the 1984 LA Games, as trucks and delivery vehicles were not allowed on freeways from 11pm - 6am during the Games. Most employers had their employees work from home as much as possible and that was before remote work was a thing. Also, many LA residents travelled out of the City during the Games. In the height of normal rush hours the freeways were wide open, as it was the lightest traffic in LA in my lifetime despite predictions of horrible traffic. The freeways were not as extensive nor wide as currently exists nor was the Metro system in existence in 1984.

Yeah but the athletes and media villages in Paris were privately funded and privately built as real-estate transit oriented developments as part of the city-region's "Grand Paris" initiative and "Grand Paris Express" massive transit expansion project.
Both are entire neighborhoods (the athletes village being the largest by far), with private, semi-social, social and student housing, offices, administrations, services and shops.
The main difference with most previous Olympic villages is that in Paris they are major private real-estate developments that just happen to be briefly used as Olympic villages, instead of being public white elephant projects built for the Olympics that then try to find an uncertain second life.
There's housing for 6000 or 7000 people in the Athletes village new neighborhood, and currently for about 1500 - 2000 people in the media village. Though the neighborhood that was the media village will continue to grow in the coming years to coincide with the arrival of new nearby metro stations on the entirety new tangential or circular express metro lines of the humongous Grand Paris Express metro expansion project.
The villages shouldn't even be counted in the Paris 2024 because of the private funding, but they are.
LA should have done the same and rehabilitate two entire areas by offering developers to privately build the athletes' and media villages to really try to help with the housing crisis.
Preferably on or close to an LA Metro line, either an existing or new station.
A quasi instantaneous availability of thousands of new apartments, all in extremely well built and eco-friendly buildings, should have a "shock cooling effect" on the housing market and crisis, even if it's only a tiny portion of the housing demand.
(in Paris they've built following future regulations that should only be applied in 2 decades or so)
What will be the LA28's legacy? A pair of new neighborhoods would have been great.
When visiting Paris athletes' village, Mayor Karen Bass seemed to almost regret not building one for LA.
Because it's a pretty quick and easy fix that the city can shape to its liking, while not paying for it, and that can maybe kickstart a housing development boom or at least a spike.
Anyway, in Paris they've used mostly private funds and a bit if public funds, for the Olympics, to build very few infrastructures, but that were needed by the city for years.
Like the sanitation upgrade, the sewer overflow prevention basin and tunnel system, the midsized modular arena, and several schools' sporting facilities and public pools renovations, etc.
All of which were needed and some long overdue. The new midsize arena hosted unrelated events even before the Olympics and is already booked well into 2025 so it will pay for itself. It's also the new permanent home to the Paris Basketball team.

There is some misformation there. The distance between Paris and Marseille is less than 500 miles, it takes 3 hours by train (from downtown to downtown) and 1h15, 1h30 by plane depending on the airport. The distance between Los Angeles and Oklahoma City is more than 1700 miles, it takes between 2h30 and 3h by plane. I'm not saying it's a catastrophe but it's clearly not 100% fair to say it's the same travelling time...

What about the Surfing competition that was held in Tahiti? That was the farthest distance between the sporting venue and the host city in Olympic history. Besides, the distance between Oklahoma City and LA is irrelevant as few (if any) spectators will be traveling between LA and Oklahoma to see Softball and Canoeing events. Also, in the Paris Games basketball and soccer games were held at venue throughout France. For the 2028 LA Games soccer games will be held at various venues throughout California with the semi-final and final games to be held at the Rose Bowl just as was the case in the 1984 LA Games. No Olympic Games has staged 100% of the events within the host city.

@@dorothygale1104this is not what he said. He said there is misinformation from the journalists about the time to go to Lille and Marseille :
      - some basket and some handball were in Lille (1hour by train from Paris). And the sailing was in marseille (3 hour per train). This is definitely closer than what is expected in Los Angeles for some sports
It is definitely a good idea to spread some games in other regions because the local population feels associated to the Olympics games and that increase the number of spectators. (Like the record attendance for women football or handball we had during Paris Olympics).
In Lille, we had all the population from the neighboring countries Belgium Netherlands Germany Poland coming to the Olympics. That was a huge success.
It is also a good idea to use facilities in other regions that are already built (rather to build new ones). BUT the journalists in this video were lying about the time and the distance to go to marseille and Lille.

    Lots of "creative statements" here...
Marseille is not a 2 hour flight away from Paris, it only takes a 1 hour flight, and 3 hours by high-speed train.
The more I hear Wasserman talk about the 2024 games, the further Marseille gets from Paris and the larger the budget is supposed to have ballooned in his mind. In a couple weeks he'll be saying Marseille is 5 hours away from Paris, and the budget has quadrupled... 🤣
He'll be right at home in Marseille, as being called a "Marseillais" means having a tendency to severely exaggerate things...
It's just that Marseille is located on the Mediterranean coast with beautiful clear, blue water, and usually considered as the second city of the country. It's also "THE" French city that has had a never-ending inferiority complex with Paris and a misplaced rivalry. So, hosting some events in Marseille was a way of patting the city on the back, or Paris (and the rest of France) wouldn't hear the end of it.
In 2 hours flying from Paris you've reached Madrid...
There's sailing possible only 100 miles away from Paris where the Atlantic Ocean and English Channel meet.
Or 20 miles further in cities like Le Touquet, which is nicknamed "Paris Plage" (Paris Beach), as it had been the primary coastal, horse racing, and casino destination for wealthy Parisians since the late 19th and early 20th century.
France is called the hexagon, and 3 of its 6 sides are coastlines, half of it is closer to Paris than Marseille.
The Mediterranean coast is the most distant one from Paris in the mainland.
The Paris 2024 budget did not double, far from it, and the athletes and media villages were privately funded as real-estate transit oriented developments as part of Greater Paris' "Grand Paris" initiative and "Grand Paris Express" transit expansion project. They are built with the goal of helping to reduce the current housing crisis in the metro area.
They shouldn't even be included in the budget, being built by private companies, with private funding, and as housing, offices, and shops.
They are major private urban developments that happen to briefly serve for the Olympics, and not public developments looking for an uncertain second life.
The venue were they held swimming races, the Paris la Défense Arena, which is a huge indoor sports (mostly rugby) and concert arena, has a capacity over 45k (it's the largest indoor arena in Europe), and they initially wanted just as many spectators.
But for Olympic competitions there needs to be a large training pool nearby for athletes to swim and cool down after races. This pool must be hidden from the public and in the same location because athletes should be back in the pool minutes after finishing a race.
Therefore, a substantial portion of the arena wasn't open to the public and hidden behind temporary bleachers on one of the 4 sides.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be the same for LA...
4 years before the games, Paris too thought they could have 40k spectators for swimming, then IOC and FINA's requirements made the plans change.
Also, Paris did not just hide or export their unhoused. There was a program to develop kinds of halfway accommodations, spread out in many cities, with extensive social worker programs.
None of the unhoused people that were moved to other cities were left without a roof over their head.
Though it's really different from LA, as working unhoused people are much more rare in Paris. Unhoused people there consist mostly of desocialized people, and refugees.
Unhoused people that had jobs or strong ties to Paris were offered other solutions locally.
100% of what was spent on infrastructure, which is not much anyway, answered a previous need of the city outside the games and sometimes long overdue.
Like a sewer overflow prevention basin and tunnel system near the riverr.
A midsized aquatic and diving center in the poorest districts.
And a midsized modular sports and concert arena in the renewed Northern edges of the core's 18th district to permanently host the Paris Basketball team that lacked a home arena and training center.
This new arena is already booked well into 2025 for sports events, concerts, conventions, etc. It's already paying for itself and had hosted unrelated events even before the games.
All these would have been built either way, Olympics or not, but the 2024 games accelerated the process.
So these Olympics weren't "no new building" games, but "no new constructions that weren't already needed" ganes.
One last thing to keep in mind is that federal (and probably also state level) security expenses seem not to be counted in LA 2028's budget.
Whereas everything from national, regional, and local security, plus privately funded things, were all counted in Paris 2024 budget. It also included all developments needed even if Paris didn't host the Olympics, like the improved sanitation system, schools' sporting facilities, historical sites renovations, etc.

We Need More Resources to Improve Housing People are working That Have no Place To Go at Night and Get the Dangerous People with Issues and Mental Illness Help in separate communities lines. We Have to put up with this if I have to Say Something for those Working People Need a Place to Stay Hostel and Hotel are also Not Enough to Help Reducing Homeless cuz Not Getting Homeless Big encampments down Recovering Stolen Goods the Small Tent size a designated area will be Great. We need more Resources if Money going well option for Hotel are out of fund for voucher and not enough Housing available for anyone. Now arrested and citation ain’t going to help be Some where else like Burbank. I’m not saying anything on Side of Debate on Trump clear those don’t Have enough requirements to be able to work and Reduce the number of people can get those Need help then advantage of the system that’s pretty much why homelessness is increasing. But Harris, sorry I messed that name up. Just going to take wayy more to provide everyone to get into housing and Supporting Services which needed way more then everyone Thinks. PS to Newsom well they said working slowly so stop holding Funds and 100 Billion Dollar in to help the homeless and issues that be Addressed and Solve by 2028 no Vote For Me Then
