  • I describe and incorporate the top 15 characteristics and elements of the hottest new design style-Grand Millennial/Cottagecore Design-as I redecorate my sitting room. I will include several DIY home decor projects along the way. These include creating botanical book covers, creating art from dried flowers, painting and refurbishing a thrifted cabinet, removing the skirt off thrifted chairs and cleaning the chairs with an upholstery cleaner, sewing curtains from precut Waverly fabric, reupholstering a seat cover, and painting an iron table. I will present a tour of the room at the end of the video. If you are tired of your current decor and are ready for a change, this is the video for you!

This has always been my style using what I like regardless of current trends. I’ve never been a pillow gal and don’t use many of them to decorate. I have kept some items from when I was first married which is about 40 years ago. I put them back for a while and then bring out again, it makes them feel new but brings back memories too.

So happy this decorating style is en vogue now! I've always loved the English interiors of the 1930s & '40s. The doilies, wallpaper & collections of plates, etc. Your sitting room refresh looks fabulous. The drapery is lovely & so well done. And that cabinet...outstanding. Can't wait for your next episode. I absolutely hate when i hear people talk about whats "in" or " out". First of all, do what YOU love. Second of all, its perfectly fine and very doable to have a bit of both. Imo, a "farmhouse" style was never totally neutral. It can definitely have plenty of florals and things. I have always used basic neutrals, and naturals, but throw in color as well, with "removable" items such as wall decor and pillows. It doesnt have to be either or..and it doesn't have to be "in" or "out".

So lovely Sherry!! I’ve never wavered with the current trend, just made some additions or adjustments in my decor. BUT - now I will go room by room, and gather up my collections to display them better, and spruce up my Granny Chic Millennial style - that I did not know I was, lol! You’re the best Sherry! Can’t wait til next Tuesday!!! 😘

I loved the cabinet makeover and the little side table makeover!!! I would have to say our last home was granny chic and we loved it in that home. I am so OVER farmhouse style. It’s wonderful to see a home decor video on something other than farmhouse. Thank you!
Our current home decor is what we call “vintage lake”. We have curated items and collections over the years and we just love how our home feels.

This is exactly the look I have been trying to create! Its refreshing to see you are doing it here! I am no way a minimalist, never have been but I hate clutter! Oh I am so glad to see what you have done! I have a tiny cottage style house that can easily look cluttered so I have to be careful how I present things! Thank you so much Sherry!

I love the Granny Chic Style!!! I don’t feel like my Grandbabies would ever be worried to touch something or even admire something I have had for decades! I just revamped my basement apartment so that my Son, Wife and my Granddaughter and Grandson would have a place to stay while visiting for Christmas from overseas. My Grandkids are 7 & almost 5 and were excited to see their new bedroom and be able to play with whatever I had used in my decor. I even got them interested in my rock collection!!!! Their Mummy is afraid of butterflies and birds so I limited that element. Would be the same as my dislike of spiders so I totally understand that feeling! I am also done with the white everything thing. I love my travel mementos and collections. Thanks 🙏 for sharing and allowing license to be the Grannies we are blessed to be!!!!

LOVE, LOVE, 💘 your style! I must have always been a "Grand Millennial" decorator! I'm happy to hear it's now in style as I've held back on adding all the elements I would like to add. Look out thrift stores, here I come! Love your channel!! Looking forward to more videos! And I also appreciate the way in which you describe and give instructions. I predict a new You Tube decorating star in the making! 😎

I have been touting "Granny Chic" my whole adult life. I even called it Granny Chic. I especially love that you can use many items you inherited from family and friends. I have built collections from things I got from a favorite aunt. You just showed us just what my house looks like. Imagine being able to thrift things that have color! No more cold black and white. I enjoy your DIY projects and this room redo was perfection! Bring us both!

Lovely, cozy room. I have always been Granny chic. I have lots of collections, books, antiques. I really don't care what is in style or not. When I see a young person decorate their entire house in one trendy style I know they'll be sorry when it's all in a garage sale in 8 or 10 years. Also that was a good choice to switch out the chairs, it looks better.

I have always loved the traditional, now grand Millennial style. You did a wonderful job on refurbishing your green cabinet. I have been changing out my jute bows for satin bows! I am glad to see more important looking items and imported items sneaking back into our favorite stores. I really enjoy looking at what people have collected over the years. I hope the younger generation learns that hoarding and collecting are two different things. Looking forward to more from you, Sherry! Have a great day.

Hi love the transformation! I love displaying collections and I appreciate how well yours are displayed. I live on a real farm now 23 yrs and never went for the sterile white look...and before or within the last year when everything went boho I had always accented with boho bc it goes so well with southwest and horse decor ( we have horses).... Since living here I have always been eclectic and Granny Chic I guess.....I love the lived in layered over time look❣️ I am very sentimental and I decorate with what I love....not what is in style. My fathered refinished furniture and had a love of old things....taught me old stuff made better, etc The best compliment I get is when people say they feel so comfortable in my home! Thank you for sharing 😊kim

I don’t think I’ve ever had a certain “style”. I don’t care about trends, never have & never will. My apt is pretty crazy eclectic & people always comment on how they love that they notice something new every time they’re here. Your on screen list only cracks the surface of how I live. Yup, I said it! Everything from; antique, vintage, modern, art, books, collectibles (bottles, metal lunch boxes, clocks, figurines, old suitcases) plants, pattern, color, rattan, caning, velvet, mixed matches...etc...love it all ❤️
