And Snapdragons are known for, well ..., "if you had one update in the year after you bought the device, consider yourself lucky". Intel chips may be *hot* but with them I know I can sideload drivers for at least 10 years. Snapdragon has something to prove in this department.
Honestly, the power efficiency SnapDragon has broken through is insane already even on SmartPhones, its time for Snapdragon to join the Big 3 going head to head, toe to toe in computing performance. Im exited! Especially in X86 X64 and ARM programs
@@LivingLinux hope they really do that clearly. Like which device fully functional, which distro is supported? If not how to port to other distro? And power/tdp control.
Wish y'all were confident in saying that the X Elite also slightly outperforms M3 Pro on multi-core (and it does, 15.6k vs 15.1k on benchmarks). Just saying it outdoes the M3 isn't really special for the best chip you're pushing
Actually, it is an incredible achievement. Although M3 is the base model of M3 family, it is the processor with the best performance-per-watt (PPW) in the world, and efficiency is measured according to PPW, not performance per core. The M3 Pro and Max are indeed more powerful than M3, but the performance increase is not proportional to the increased TDP, so the PPW is worse. And also very important, the M3 Pro and X Elite are almost tied regarding multicore performance when the M3 Pro has a ~+50% TDP compared to X Elite (both with 12 cores) and, to add insult to injury, the first is built using a more advanced process node (lithography) from TSMC, the N3, while the second uses N4P (less than 10% slower PPW vs N3).
If X Elite is 23W, then X Plus is 17W (23/12*10 = 19W, 19/3.8*3.4 = 17W) There will be "X" version, (bronze color)? Would be perfect at 9W for fanless laptops.
Is this support externl GPU? is it ARM or x86/x64? Can it support any OS or its a specific to special windows version? is it recovery base system or has bios? Can it support remoavle/upgradable/dowgradable Ram? How many PCIe lane supports?
They does ,they told some news outlets but not much news . Nvidia GPU for ARM are better than AMD ARM Windows 12 =Windows 11 24H2 Native Linux support for Linux for ARM UEFI BIOS Ram is soldered, storage is upgradeable alongside speakers, wifi-7 module and blutooth module. It supports pcie gen 4.
Now, can it edit h.265 video with no lagging?, most windows pc keep struggling, but macbook series deserve better because they have hardware media engine for decoding video
as nothing to do with h265 , all recent gpus support it , what is not supported is 10bit 4:2:2 Croma sub sampling . Only Intel IGPU and apple has that , and for some absurd reason camera companies use 422 instead of 420 10bit or 444 10bit

Later this year, presumably Microsoft will launch one in May, and the other vendors will be delivering them too, both X Plus and X Elite devices.
Can somebody name any real app except background blurring that utilizes "AI" power
Using Snapdragon since 2012 with my Samsung S duos running on SD-S1...
Welcome back to the Desktop Market, I wish you do exceptionally better this time compared to the 845/835 Era
I'm stoked about 5G on a Laptop 😍😍😍
Wow I'm excited to use Snapdragon X NPUs PC, Thank you Qualcomm!
Key Ingredients for a presentation,
1. Compare it with Apple
2. Slap AI for everything!
3. show results for photo & video, audio editing apps alone & ignoring other areas (as if the world revolves around these editing apps alone)
4. promises promises and promises
The point is this laptop is focused on business where ARM and IA are requirements. Wait a few more years until they ship one of this processors made for home users.
I would definetely use this for gaming. I don't mind turning the settings down for it.
Hahaha 🤣
I don’t think you said AI enough. I only counted 56
I always thought, if Snapdragon can make such a good processor for mobile,Why they are not making it for computer. Finally they did it.
The interesting thing no one talks about is the driver support. Windows is known that it could be supported for decades (looking at you, Windows XP - 2001 - 2019).
How about Linux Support?
It seems Qualcomm partnered with Linaro for upstreaming the Linux support.
@@LivingLinux hope they really do that clearly. Like which device fully functional, which distro is supported? If not how to port to other distro? And power/tdp control.
@@immortalmyth5685 Mainline Linux, so all distros can include it. They already showed Debian on the X Elite.
Well done Snapdragon, it's the first time I am thinking about Windows laptop after using M1 pro.
@@marcelinoverazanidesouzawell it's the most efficient but it's not the best performing that goes to Intel and AMD
If X Elite is 23W, then X Plus is 17W (23/12*10 = 19W, 19/3.8*3.4 = 17W)
There will be "X" version, (bronze color)? Would be perfect at 9W for fanless laptops.
No upgradable RAM, no upgradable storage, zero repairablity, More e-waste. RIP PC
Just wait for Lenovo to drop this in a thinkpad.
Nvidia GPU for ARM are better than AMD
ARM
Windows 12 =Windows 11 24H2
Native Linux support for Linux for ARM
UEFI BIOS
Ram is soldered, storage is upgradeable alongside speakers, wifi-7 module and blutooth module.
It supports pcie gen 4.
Finally it is an end of era for potato webcam quality 😂😂😂
This is great, the ARM CPU is now capturing the PC market. Always waited for this tech.
Farewell x86
finally , it had to happen faster , dont know why took them so long
arm is for laptops only
@@MLTAKOS arm is also found on servers. Amazon Graviton, Nvidia Grace, Google Axion, Microsoft Cobalt, Ampere Altra, etc.
x86 CPUs will probably be still around for more demanding applications, but this looks very interesting for mobile devices.
@@MLTAKOSfor now, yes. It won't make sense to have a different arch for desktop in the long run, and x86 just can't win that battle.
Most of the benchmark tests were conducted on ISO power to highlight X Elite performance per-Watt, but how about full power benchmark on each systems?
"hello, hi, i am under the water!" vibe... 😂
These chips can do everything but be in a device on a store shelf 😂😂
I'm only interested in mainline Linux support.
How about that?
Plez dont be overpriced
Don't let them know about apple.
It probably will be. Microsoft will be the first to launch this and they always price things way high in the sky. And everyone else will just lower it slightly. My guess is $1000-$2000 laptops.
will cost 1 dollar/AI
700-800 for X Plus and 1200+ for X elite is good spot.
Will it have an uefi bios to install any OS?
nobody cares about AI in their laptops. We want battery life, power efficiency (passive cooling) and at least m3 apple silicon raw computational power. Thats all.
Well good thing we got all of that covered too 😉
I care
@@snapdragonahaha
If you watched, the video talks about it
🤣🤣
I want a Linux ARM or Risc-V Laptop, not from Redmond which is the inferior OS because I can not modify the Kernel then recompile it across platforms.
Does it support AI processing?
Yes, it does!
Oh yeah 😎
Finally a competitor in ARM based CPUs which was entirely dominated by Apple. Good work Qualcomm. Competition is good for market not monopoly.
how about gaming? can we in stall steam or XBOX gamepass ?
Yes you can... But don't expect great results. It's barely able to run games on 1080p at 30fps. It's an AI chip not a gaming one.
Yes. Chips iGPU is better than most but still limiting. The chip does also allow discrete GPUs so hopefully we get some later this year with X Elite & an RTX chip.
@@bihazards I'm afraid that's not gonna happen. Snapdragon & Microsoft are adamant on making this their proud moment. And Nvidia cards will still eat up power like crazy, devouring the best ability of these chips. "battery performance"
So... Maybe next generation. But not this year.
You can install all Windows apps. Software that's not compiled for ARM will have an emulation layer to serve.
Now we want a more powerful version for desktiops (small form factor desktops will very much appreciate some arm based chipsets)
This is the "M1 moment" for Windows. I'm excited. I can't wait to finally ditch my MacBook Pro for a laptop that runs an actual operating system.
Why do you want to swap your macbook, which will probably be even faster, for a windows laptop with qualcomm?
@@tim-n.schutze8796More Freedom which apple loves to take away little by little.
Exactly and it runs a bit faster than the M2 so thats amazing for just the 1st Gen, now imagine 2nd and 3rd gen!! 🔥
@@tim-n.schutze8796 what about those who don't use mac for the software support and are using x86 cpu's? which is 70% of the people using laptop?
@@Skepsi_ but with the qualcomm you have the same problem, no x86 and instead apps need to be emulated like with the MacBook. And i just dont understand why he wants to swap the more powerful and more efficient chip for the qualcomm chip
Love it, More competition the better.
I hope you folks are also working on an XR3 for next gen VR headsets as well.
The Accent and The Voice killed the whole Ultra vibe making it look cheap.
unfortunately yes, sounds rude to say but he needed more flow and hasn't stroke me as great speaker.
😂 Guess I'm not the only one who is getting triggered by the way he speaks. he's speaking like he memorized a whole page and is snappy to hear ,needs more work in presentation.
To me, a PC is something you can build buying parts from different suppliers and ending with a working machine. I don't know if Snapdragon will allow that.
I am so excited for this! 😁
Likewise 😁
