That "confidence clip" must be a new addition in the last 10 years or so. All the ones I played with just had the safety/transport/"thumb" clip, and the straight pull pin.
The "transport clip" is quite often referred to as the "jungle clip" as it was introduced to the M26 which became the M61 with the clip. During the Vietnam war there were issues with soldiers patrolling in dense jungle and scrub could snag on the ring pull and accidentally remove it causing serious casualties. The jungle clip was added specifically to mitigate that.
@@valgear5525Oh my god pleeeaaase do the OКП-7. I've been dying to see a detailed video on it. I looked online, and the last one sold online was in 2022.
@@valgear5525 oooh cant wait to hear your thoughts on them, the track record of russian optics especially red dots has been quite bad, atleast for the older style PK-A etc. i dont know much about the modern ones tho. best of luck out there
And, there’s a *lot* of it, compared to most other things of its kind, e.g. 2 ounces of flaked TNT in the old “pineapple,” and a similar amount of regular TNT in the Stielhandgranate-24. So you get a bigger bang than the latter, and a lot of splinters, too.
@@KKKKKKK-sr1fz about 30 to 50% stronger than TNT. Mixed, it increases the strength of TNT (Comp. B) while retaining much of TNT’s (safer) handling qualities and (relative) insensitivity. Plastic-Bonded Ex. are safer still, but are more expensive - so for a heavily used item, Comp. B. is kind of a relative “optimum.”
@@KKKKKKK-sr1fz not sure. I guess it depends on how hard they (the various materials) are to make in industrial quantities, if you’re a country and are needing to make munitions - and, indirectly, how *much* you need to make, and under what conditions. In ww1, Britain was producing vast numbers of artillery shells, and therefore they extended their supplies of TNT with ammonium nitrate. I suspect Russia is doing likewise currently. Not sure about Ukraine.
Very interesting and informative. Historical military tests for lethality was done with 2.5 cm pine board (soft wood) , when testing projectiles from small arms. I would be very interested to see the depth of penetration from fragments from a grenade on a pine board. Many Canadians and our government in Canada support your fight to maintain a Sovereign Ukraine ! Most people are hoping for an end to your war and a return to a Peaceful United Ukraine.
Thank you for the video :) There are new grenades in the pipeline, a variant of HG85 and DM61 with tungsten pellets instead of the steel balls and a polymer-bound high-energy IM filling, they should perform even better than M67/HG85, against personell with ballistic protection as well. :)
It is interesting that one of those smallest grenades is one of the most deadly. I have always assumed it would of had equal if not slightly less preformance than russia types like F-1 grenades.
Hey man, I will look into it to do it on RUclips and add the one extra video per week, same like on Patreon, thank you for suggestion, we do need more stuff, so every contribution is greatly appreciated!
@valgear5525 Forgotten Weapons set up a subscription based website that has a few select weapons youtube channels (such as Armorer's Bench) on it that each get money for being on the site. Perhaps joining that site would be an option?
That was a hell of an accurate throw to the middle of those targets in the intro. Couldn't have been much more centered if you measured to the center, set up the frag, and detonated it remotely.
Like with the clone HG-85, the frag shape and mass was optimised to penetrate a CRISAT plate at 3-5 meters, representing soft body armor. Though as seen with the large chunk, the internal dimpling is too shallow to achieve the envisoned frag quality and quantity. Would love to see the DM61, if any are available. Should be the direct replacement of the DM51, which shockingly underperformed during the previous test.
I'd like to see you use the Australian F1 grenade, alhtough I doubt we sent any over to you guys. IMO it has better lethality than the M67 as it uses preformed frag over shattering the case. The F1 has >4000 2.4mm steel balls. Has an almost perfect 360 degree fragment sphere. New F1A1 being released with ahve even more uniform distribution particularly around the fuze.
Very nice!!!! I think for a future video it might be interesting to do one on directly comparing different grenades to each other. For example a M67 vs a DM51
Hello, unfortunately i can't do it, mainly because of wasting of resources, my approach is to do separate video on each type and that's it. Its small miracle that I have opportunity to do even that. Thank you for watching!
ty for the videos. how far can someone reliably aim and throw a grenade? 400g seems not that much to a civilian like me. would a grenade with maybe 1kg really be more unpractical at the distances i imagine? or is 400g just enough
With High Explosive, and especially the more powerful ones, 400g is more than enough while also remaining light enough for the average user to really yeet it far away or toss it more accurately through something like a window at close-medium ranges. 1kg might not sound like much, but that's 2.2lbs; and an M16 is 7-9ish pounds. So with the extra weight of the grenade body and fuze, that'd mean a single grenade just by itself would weigh ¼-⅓ the weight of an entire loaded rifle. Even 152-155mm artillery rounds usually only have between 5.9-11ish kg of HE, so for something that fits in your hand and can be thrown around 45m, 400g of HE surrounded by a fragmentation body is pretty good. Also, the grenade was specifically made in the shape of a baseball to take advantage of the fact most US Soldiers/Marines would've grown up playing Baseball and already been proficient with throwing that shape. So I think they probably tried to make it weigh as close to a baseball as they could as well, I'm not sure about that but it'd make sense since even if they're shaped the same, if the grenade was significantly heavier the whole point of the average user already being a master at aiming and throwing it would be moot as they'd have to get used to how the heavier grenade would handle and how much power's needed to throw it somewhere, etc.
I wish u would get some austrian hand grenades they are very interesting with their power and Steel Ball quantity, Im making fictional armed forces that qlso fight in trench warfare i know im a geek and the m67 semes to have a lot of explosive filling while still being able to fragment so it semestru as the most powerful hand grenade dilling wise for trench warfare, any recommedantions excepy m67? The austrian arges shrbg 84 and 90 seem also powerful with a lot of Steel balls
I have always wondered what the failure rate for the M67 is. By failure I mean a situation where you pull the pin, thumb the clip, release the spoon, and the grenade instantaneously explodes before you can even throw it.
I heard today about a Russian who fragged 6 of his own men by throwing a grenade into there room and I thought to have got all 6 it must have been m67 it's spreads out so everyone gets some
