@@davidgraham2673 Yup, you're right. We tread gently on the earth, do no harm, harvest sustainably, everyone can get a pound of scallops for $8, every year the harvest of any fish, mollusks, crustaceans, is the same as 25 years ago, they did not cancel snow crab harvest for at least the last season because they were so few and small because they are all cannibalizing each other because they can't even find any food.
Just one species on this planet is racing to exterminate every single living thing.
As a former (20 years), of diving the Florida coast from Key West to Jupiter, but gave it up because it's dead, barren, silted, bleached out, only long ugly greenish brown algae streamers that catch on the spindly stems of dead corals, Manatee death rates are twice birth rates, millions of acres of farmland degraded and blown away, but Gates and Bezos have lately bought six NYC'S worth of the best remaining land, skyrocketing the price of an acre by a third, destroying family land transfers, new young punks getting contracts on crappy acreage and peddling it on RUclips in tiny chunks, doubling the price, just like the evil banks in 2002 who bundled up hundreds of worthless mortgages and sold them in slices.
Just like there were 660 people who increased their net worth by over 1.5 TRILLION during Covid, and Trump, pulling a publicity stunt, at a 450 worker steel mill, screwing millions of people and manufacturers by starting steel trade wars, so every domestic steel mill simply closed their doors, US Steel alone laid off 6700 workers, steel prices went from 450 a coil to over 2,000, 30 billion profit, biggest ever, for NOT making steel.
When that ship got stuck in the Suez Canal for 12 days, Maersk, family owned and the largest shipping company in the world publicly announced that rates were increasing by 5 times. Pretty soon every company dipped in, not helping the Country, but saying screw it, pass along all increases, and let's also grab a few more bucks.
That's why the inflation during a recession.
2 more things, about 1.8 Trillion of the workers pay protection was stolen, and if you have been recording BizBuySell, Dealstream, and Bidspotter, for over 2.5 years, 1000 Mfg a week are selling, kissing all their one big family employees see ya. Sec Treasury Yellin, a brilliant economist, said there is over 17 Trillion dollars of unpaid fraudulent taxes.
I was a Republican and a Marine, but when you have 75 million people stop caring about truth, common decency, and the rule of law, willing to support ripping out mail boxes, closing half their voting locations, bashing through the doors of our Capitol, plotting to kill a sitting governor, and all because there is truly a pedophile grooming conspiracy in the back of a pizza shop???
This Country is not, and never ever was about a specific leader, it's the ideals, the obligation of every one of us to call out liars, thin skinned cheats who have no morals, who are heard on tape pressuring a government official to "find" 13,000 more votes.
It's time to take every "American " who hates, who dishonors our Flag, who is unable to recognize, or be part of cult of personality and kick them out of here.
One of our Marine Corps credos was that I may not agree with what you are saying, but here, in the U.S.A., I will fight to the death for your right to say it.
      Not anymore.
And never again a President of the greatest country on earth who is a lying, schoolyard bully, actually calling other politicians with foul mouthed nicknames and advocating violence and Treason to get his way. There are a lot of people who need to really look deep inside themselves and
decide just what kind of person they really are.
Ok. Very sorry I turned this into a big rant about how scared I am about the future of our Democracy, and if we can all walk this back from the brink. I want so badly to be proud of ourselves again, and not have the whole world laughing at us. Our Country, our form of Government is still an infant. We need to recognize our true enemies, they are the ultra rich, using the Trillions they have made off the backs of 90% of us, and they live in the shadows, pulling the true levers of power, money, greed, immoral, corrupt, not caring at all for any of us, using lies and fear to keep us occupied while they rape and savage the whole world.
      Scallops to soapbox.
Sorry again, it's not directed at you, nor am I in any way saying you are any of these things.

Just picture a seabed, fish, corals, all types of conch, other single shelled molluscs, all the newborn fry of hundreds of different species, struggling to survive, hiding under tiny rocks, then suddenly this thousand pound scraping blade, attached to a huge net made up of giant links of chain, ripping across that seabed, grinding, ripping, crushing and killing 100% of everything in it's path. You wont see any of the small stuff, the soft bodied fish, octopus, etc, that are blenderized by this bottom dragging method of fishing, one of the most destructive methods, as is kills indiscriminately, and all those trawlers use GPS, so that every day they go out, they mow down strip after strip, throwing back all the dead and maimed bycatch, and undersized scallops whose thinner shells are usually crushed or cracked.
I love scallops, but I can't bring myself to eat them, knowing how trawlers are the Marine Equivalent of millions of gallons of raw sewage spewed out daily, or spraying a giant can of Raid on the sea floor for miles. Sorry.

if its managed correctly it isnt destructive, there will always be by catch . I've worked on Scallop boats and the places we drag are scallop zoned seafloor and the season is very short , fishing the beds helps spread the polyps of the mature scallops and actually ( if managed correctly ) contributes to the health of the fishery. Its the difference between sustainable and sound fishing practice , or Asian thievery which is probably what we are witnessing in this video since there is no way any Asian country is pulling up bountiful catches like that in their slurry of waste and pollution that is their coastal waters .

I love sea scallops . But just as expensive as others
    Sea fish . I still don't know
    How scallops live in the
Sea.and how do their catch from the sea floor.

    • @Graham19951
      @Graham19951 2 года назад +2

Scallops are mainly caught in two ways. Probably 95 % of scallops are dredge caught. A dredge is a steel frame with metal teeth to dig the scallops out the bottom with a bag attached made from metal rings. These are towed behind the trawler, the bigger boats (20 meter) towing up to 36 at a time. Very productive and makes lots of money, but absolutely destroys the seabed. Coupled together like they are they can weigh several tons of steel, not much is left alive once they have finished with a bit of ground. . The other way is diving for them. This is very eco friendly for several reasons. The diver leaves most of the small behind, the scallops are more saught after because they do not have grit in them when eating them, are usually landed hours after catching. (a dredger can have them in his hold for five days though French dredgers land every day). Also a diver is very limited to his time under water and the depth he can work. Where a diver had been no one would know. Ime talking mainly of European scallops, not American or Asian farmed.

Eric see my above post. It is VERY efficient, it guarantees a 100% kill rate of anything living on the seabed, as well as habitat, coral, sea grasses, where all the new spawn tries to find hiding places in that seabed. They are catching scallops, and crushing and killing everything else up to a foot below the surface of the seabed.

@@yungnguyen7493 Pretty blank reply, I do eat scallops, it's the method used that is appalling and In the UK there are strict limitations on the size at which scallops may be taken, the undersize ones are returned. The method used here just indiscriminately rakes up whatever is on the seabed, not just undersized scallops, which take 4-5 years to reach maturiy, but anything else that lives down there.

Blue baskets are empty shell, not mixed up with live in the hold, ps for all the tree huggers with the nothing left on the sea bed. These are man seeded scallops. not wild. The fisherman grow babies on ropes , then harvest them and re sow in deeper water.
