  • Hi, everyone! Raquel here to share how I prepare for the Sabbath each week-- and not just with a Friday prep day, but a WHOLE week of Shabbat prep! In this video, I'm going to take you with me from the first day of the week until Shabbat and share my daily tasks and TIPS that help me to have a stress free, restful Sabbath that begins peacefully on Friday afternoon (not in a rush and panic!). I share my week with you in hopes that it blesses you in your own Shabbat prep.
    Leviticus 23:3
    Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, a holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

    Thank you so much for the info! I was a Sunday Christian that started following the Torah lifestyle with my family in October. We don’t have a community yet so I’ve been learning everything on my own.

    I “reclaimed” the Sabbath a few years ago and it made a huge difference in my life-the first commandment tells us we are no longer slaves, and we shouldn’t act like slaves. We have God-given permission to rest-a-while 🙂❤️

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  3 года назад +7

      Amen!! So true!! We started keeping the Sabbath 7 years ago- not because we were keeping Torah but because we were trying to understand our Jewish Messiah and His Jewish apostles. That’s when we realized what a delight it is and NOT a burden.... and that led us to question whether obeying Torah was really the burden and bondage we had been taught it was. And of course Scripture bore it out that we should be walking in obedience to God’s Law. So keeping the Sabbath made a huge difference in our life, too, because it was the means by which God revealed His Torah to us. ❤️ 🤗 Blessings!

      I'm so thankful you found benefit from this video! Yes! Shabbat is a joy and a delight. The weekly prep builds the anticipation for a joyous, restful day. And helps us to be more intentional in how we spend the day, as opposed to it just coming and going.
      Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! Blessings!

      @@WomenLivingTorah great to see your early preps Raquel, but we are not suppose to travel on Shabbat day right ? How do we have a holy convocation if we don't have a Shabbat service near by ?

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  2 года назад

      @@anlee3119 There are no commandments in Torah regarding certain distances that can or cannot be travelled on Shabbat. In certain sects of Judaism, however, there are rules about travel one must follow, which is why (from my understanding) many religious Jews live in communities where they can walk to their Shabbat services.
      Due to the liberty in Torah regarding travel, but the command that it is a holy convocation, we have always driven to our Shabbat services. 😊

    My husband went with me to Shabbat service and Messianic Foundations study last week. I was so glad because he gave it a big thumbs up! I'm planning on attending again tomorrow. I hope he joins me again. I prepare for Shabbat in a similar way as you do. I observe Shabbat and take it easy on Sunday as well...old habits. I do major cleaning at the beginning of the week. As the days roll by, I keep in mind that Shabbat is coming and adjust everything accordingly.

      @@WomenLivingTorah I was wondering....why is it wrong to buy or sell on the Sabbath? That's not really considered work, is it?

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  4 года назад +2

      The idea of not buying and selling on the Sabbath is based on two points. 1) Sabbath is a time for everyone to rest, and we are not to cause others to work. And 2) Nehemiah set a precedence by closing the gates of Jerusalem to the merchants during Sabbath.
      Deuteronomy 5:14-15
      But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
      And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
      Nehemiah 13:19
      And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
      Hope that helps!! ☺

      Would you by chance have a list that shows what you do each day to prepare?

    • @WomenLivingTorah
      @WomenLivingTorah  4 года назад

      I don’t have a list that I can refer you to, but basically I have three systems going in a week: a speed cleaning routine (30 minutes of super speedy cleaning that gets the main areas of my house looking good and laundry going- done at least twice daily); a task of the day; and a laundry for the day system.
      Sunday: clean up from Sabbath, work clothes/diapers
      Monday: dust, windows; adult dark clothes
      Tuesday: master bed/bath; towels/sheets
      Wednesday: kids’ rooms; kids’ clothes
      Thursday: laundry room, mop; adult light colored clothes
      Friday: Shabbat prep (cooking, bags packed, clothes ironed, etc); diapers/Sabbath clothes washed/ironed
      Saturday: SHABBAT!!!! ❤️ ❤️
      My list is nothing special. I just wrote the laundry down randomly and then adjusted over time. The tasks of the day I put a little more thought into. For example, wanted the floors to be mopped right before going into Sabbath. Master bedroom could be done earlier in the week because it’s not really going to get ‘messy,’ by Sabbath, and it’s always nice to have a freshly cleaned room for the week. Kids’ rooms are determined to be disastrous, haha, so we put those toward the end of the week so that they have as much chance as possible of being clean for Sabbath. Haha
      You really just write things down. Try it out for a few weeks, and then adjust where needed. 😊

      @saramoulson7808 4 года назад

    Whoa Nelly! This is one mega video, Raquel! Kudos to you for all that you do, organize - and managing to film it too! That is a ton of work! I’ll admit that we are much more relaxed and usually “on the fly” in our house when it comes to Shabbat. Today, for example, I’m just wiping the breakfast “schmutz” from the table, setting out my candlesticks, chilling the wine, and happily I have a fresh challah, wine and candles that I was gifted at a new parent orientation for school last night. (A real treat!!!)
    Dinner tonight, since we do not have guests, is a smattering of leftovers, tomatoes from the garden with burratta cheese, a green salad, fruit, and some special apple strudel I picked up that the girls love. Honestly, just challah, butter and chilled delicious wine are the things I need to eat on Shabbat. My favorite!
    If entertaining, then I absolutely agree with your prep ahead strategies! A make ahead and rewarm dinner (and setting the table and straightening the house in advance) always makes me feel so good. Often it tastes better too! We rarely entertain on Shabbat but I’d like to do it more. My Persian friends are always at big family gatherings for Shabbat dinner (upwards of 40 people sometimes). The tricks I’ve gleaned from these friends is that you can buy prepmade meals through the Persian kosher butchers, or special meatballs to drop into your soup broth. Or buy the brisket or roast from them and just make your rice and salads. I’d lose it if I had 40 people every Friday, but it’s so interesting to hear how others do it.
    This afternoon I’m going to unload the dishwasher so we are fresh for the weekend. It’s THAT low key! I did go to camp pickup early so we could be there for the pre-Shabbat service and Shabbat songs, which was a nice treat for my girls and I. 🥰
    Wishing you and your family a Shabbat Shalom! You are one amazing wife and mom!
    P.s. have you been watching My Jewish Mommy Life’s summer Shabbat series?! It’s been excellent! Something to go back to or that your viewers might enjoy! Be well sweet Raquel! You do so much!

      Thank you so much for sharing your tips and experiences! We don't have guests every Shabbat, but we do try to have guests more often than not! 40 plus people, though! Wow. My husband would love that. Haha (He's a social butterfly. I'm more of a home body, but I play hostess for him and as a way to show love to others. Haha)
      Since we don't do any work on Shabbat, I try to plan my whole week so that my house is clean on Shabbat and I can relax. I think you would make an EXCELLENT Shabbat hostess! I loved your Passover videos this year, showing how you prepared to host a Passover seder!
      As for Marion's videos, I have been missing them! 😔 I want to watch, but I only have internet when I'm in town or sometimes after 10pm. (It's tourist season here. Look up Priest Lake! The Gem of Idaho. 😉My internet should return sporadically after 4th of July, and then be back completely after Labor Day.) Your Little Kosher Lunch and Melissa Shares channels are two of my favorites, so I give them precedence when I do have a minute of internet. I have made a mental note to watch through her series when my internet returns because, I agree, my audience would probably benefit from it!

      @@LittleKosherLunch Thank you, Melissa! I respect our differences, too, and I enjoy learning from you and understanding your way of life! We also have a great deal in common, which is important, too. 😉
      I appreciate the encouragement in my Hebrew language learning! My Hebrew currently is restricted to mostly Biblical words, haha. And my 4 year old writes it better than me! (I can read transliterated Hebrew fairly well, but can't read the aleph bet very well anymore.... We're working on it!) A goal is to one day visit Israel and be able to communicate (and read!) in Hebrew.
      Funny story, actually: my husband visited some Scandinavian countries about 15 years ago, and though he picked up some of the language, he didn't pick up enough to figure out the subway/taxi schedules. He ended up walking late at night to get to where he was going until a passerby had compassion on him and gave him a ride. I don't remember the particulars, but it was several miles he was having to walk-- with his luggage and a dying cell phone as a light. 😂 haha Moral of the story: it pays to know at least the basics of transportation/daily business in the language of the country you're visiting. Haha
      Layla tov, Melissa! It's 10pm here, and my internet is working again. I'm about to head over to your channel. Haha!

      Hi, and happy day of preparation!! 😊 We are, generally speaking, Torah observant Christians. We trust in Yeshua the Messiah as our Savior and believe that we are saved by faith in Him. As a result of saving faith, our hearts are regenerated and our lives are changed. Formerly, we were slaves to sin, meaning we transgressed God’s Torah (1 John 3:4). But now, the Spirit enables and teaches us how to live righteously and obediently, according to His Torah which is His standard of righteousness (what is right and wrong).
      Our lifestyle looks Jewish, but we are not Jews nor try to be. 😊 Yeshua/Jesus is the Messiah to the Jewish people; He did not come to start a new religion. Christianity was originally a sect of Judaism, attended the synagogue on Sabbath, etc (as seen in the book of Acts). And Scripture consistently states that God’s Torah is for ALL people, if they will only join themselves to Him.
      We do not follow Judaism’s additional teachings (not using electricity on Sabbath for example) as equal to God’s commands, nor do we study their rabbinical teachings. But we will sometimes consult with what Judaism has to say about a particular matter since our Messiah was Jewish, the apostles and prophets were largely Jewish, and they have had and studied Torah for much longer. Sometimes we adopt their understanding as our own, keeping in mind that it is just ‘our understanding,’ and sometimes, we will adopt traditions (like lighting candles on Shabbat) while keeping in mind that those are just traditions and not Commands- as long as those understandings and traditions do not displace or violate the Scriptures. 😊
      Kind of a long response. Hope it made sense! Thank you for the question! What made you start looking into keeping the Sabbath?

      @@WomenLivingTorah thank you so much for sharing this with me. I found my life getting busier and busier and I never had time for relaxation and worship so I have slowly been rearranging my life and schedule to allow for this. I feel like my final big challenge is the food and meal prep to enable about 36 hours of no cooking. I find that if I use the whole week as prep with my goal in mind it keeps me motivated to stay on track, especially in the evenings when I am really tired!

      May the Lord honor your obedience in keeping His Sabbath set apart! Meal prep is a big one for just about everyone, I think. Haha (I have a video coming out this Friday that may help!) But yes!! A little every day really helps. 😊 Blessings!

    Do you do Shabbat with other Jewish people or Christian’s? I live in a pretty big city and I’ve yet to find a Christian church that recognizes the Sabbath on a Saturday unless their seven day Adventist let alone do Shabbat

      We have a Congregation of Torah Observant Christians.... we all just kind of found each other. I’m sure by the Spirit’s guidance. 😊

    Do you follow the Torah or man’s rules for Torah?
    Listening to your preparation for Shabbat sound like the man made tradition and not what the Torah says.
    I follow the Torah not man made traditions. Where in the Torah does it talk about all the food prep you are making? Etc

      My sabbath prep is not a ‘rule,’ but rather how I practically apply what is written in the Torah in my home. Sure, you may call my habit of preparing all week long for my day of rest and holy convocation with others a ‘tradition,’ but someone’s habit of NOT preparing for the Sabbath would also be their ‘tradition.’ There’s nothing wrong with having tradition, or a way that we prepare or keep the commandments of YHVH. It’s when those traditions become confused for the actual commandment- or elevated above the commandment- that they become a problem. Blessings!

      Torah says to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Being able to prepare food ahead of time and having a clean home to rest in IS remembering the Sabbath and having the ability to keep it holy. As another example, Jewish tradition, states that they cannot use electricity or technology on Shabbat. I, personally feel it is okay to use electricity for lights, but at the same time, I limit my use of technology of “everyday” use and only use it as a way for extra Bible study tools. Every life is different and every season is different.
