Newtown, inner west suburb of Sydney, is located near Sydney City CBD and University of Sydney. Newtown is a diverse neighbourhood that always busy day and night. There are many bookshops, thrift stores, vintage clothing, hips bars and eateries. You will never go hungry in Newtown as there are abundance of restaurants from cafe, restaurants, cheap eats, desserts, pubs to semi fine dining places. Newtown offers multicultural food options from Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Italian, American, Indian, Pakistani, Vietnamese etc.
In today's episode, we take you to some of locals favourite that has become Newtown's institution. First spot is Pastizzi Cafe that does Maltese food. We tried Pastizzi, famous street food Maltese pastry made with filo pastry and filled with ricotta or mushy peas.
We love both traditional ricotta pastizzi and beef with dark ale pastizzi. Quick takeaway coffee from Brewtown Newtown cafe, one of the first cafe in Sydney that makes cronut (croissant donut) popular.
The next restaurant is well known among Sydney residents, Italian Bowl. This restaurant itself is the Newtown Sydney institution and you can't missed it. Fast pace Italian food made to order with "choose your own pasta" style. This place is loved by locals, students, professionals and family and have been serving Italian food for many many years.
If you crave for Thai food (there are plenty of Thai restaurants in Newtown), we would recommend Thai Photong, another Sydney's Newtown institution. They serve one of the best Thai food in Sydney with excellent service and great atmosphere, truly Sydney's finest Thai restaurant.
For dessert, we were planning to show you the famous watermelon cake by Black Star Pastry but unfortunately they run out for the day. Newtown is the birthplace of watermelon cake by Black Star Pastry, another Sydney institution dessert place.
Tokyo Lamington, this bakery cafe become locals favorites and specialize in classic Aussie cakes, lamington with some twist. Tokyo Lamington is one of its kind which make Newtown unique. Another one of its kind dessert place is Hakiki where it specializes in Turkish ice cream.

Oh love the idea that they offer options to make your own pasta. Oh that creamy pasta looks legit! It's really good you have a place to try all different kinds of food from different places of the world. The only downside is we will have hard time to choose what to eat!!! all of them looks amazing.

That beef pastry! Wow. Loving the vibes of this town. Wish we had one of those pasta spots here. Most Italian spots here are sit down. We had lamington for the first time in NY but it didn't look nearly as good as those. So great you got this guy on camera to tell the story.
Mostly Italian spots here also more fine dining but yeah luckily we have something like fast food Italian bowl hehee

Food is great from Pastizzi. Been going to them in South Newcastle for around 15 years . I had pasta from them the last 2 nights.
Oh wow didnt know they were in Newcastle before. This place was relatively new spot too. I remember it was in Enmore side
Ooh Maltese food.. this place Newtown has so much good food, sometimes you need more of yourself to eat everything lol.. or bring friends!

Hi guys 👋🏼 oh wow the Italian bowl pasta looked fantastic 😍 I’m Italian snd I grew up on pasta dishes. That looked wonderful. I’d love to try a cronut but I can’t find any in Melbourne where I am. I’d have to travel into the city I think.

love your videos guys. I used to work for auspost and delivered many boxes to Italian bowl. the staff at Italian bowl were always so nice and friendly. unfortunately I was always so busy with work doing deliveries I never got the chance to try there food. one day ill venture back into Newtown and grab a good bowl. .... maybe even a green bowl ;)

Omg I’ve been meaning to go to Tokyo lamington! I think they had a small store in market city for a little bit…but nice to see they have a permanent store now…going to have to visit it!

Dang these Pastizzi looks so delicious. Kinda like a pie but different. The ricotta cheese one looks especially yummy. Those lamingtons look crazy as well. Would be cool to go there in Japan like a slice of New Zealand in Japan hahahahaha. Need to try that Turkish ice cream one day.. the sour cherry sounds like a perfect way to wrap up the day. Solid choice Nicholas.

Its true. Thai Patong is the best thai resto in Newtown (IMO).
Italian bowl few times to crowded for me. And became not a friendly service from their workers.
Anyway, Newtown is one of few suburb to enjoy many kind of meals.

Lamintons shouldn't be very sweet, the sponge light and fluffy. I'm glad to hear Tokyo Lamington offerings aren't too sweet as I've heard they were so haven't made a visit yet.
