In my experience (which is bicycles, i haven't gotten my first motorcycle YET) thieves don't lift covers to check whats under them, they just cut them open.
I figured putting a hidden gps tracker in the motorcycle and engraving "If you steal this bike, I will know, and the police won't find you before my 10mm does" or something like that. Lol
I mean, it's this simple if you have a home with a garage, like a house with attached. Put a lock on the track system inside. My uncle works on doors all the time and installs them everyday, this is one of the main thing he does to doors when he installs em. As long as you garage has no other access to it except the bay door and doo that leads into the home they won't be able to break in. They can try to open your door but they'll have to literally destroy it to enter and that'd make such a ruckus that the entire neighborhood would be awake at that point.
Those mounted disc locks are no freaking joke. Worked at a mechanic shop and a guy came in with a bike asking us to cut one off. I made him show us the title and registration. But damn, if they are high quality, ain't nobody stealing that thing unless they pick it up.
Night riding requires you to be extra cautious, lights need to work and reflective gear are critical. Rain is something that happens so be prepared, what that means is regular maintenance is not an option on a motorcycle, tires and brakes should be good at all times. Having a rain suit on you when the weather looks questionable is always a good idea, and if it is going to rain and you can avoid riding it is best to avoid riding.
Rain isn't as scary as you think. Just don't ride over the white lines and brake gently. You'll be fine. (Coming from a dutch person.. if you didn't know.. it always rains here.)
Night is nothing to be scared of. Use lights and reflectors and use caution. For rain just pay attention to the weather and if there is a chance of rain use you judgement. I personally think avoid the rain at all cost is worth it, no point in putting yourself in harms way
I actually set up my tracker the same way because of you. I'm sure you must not rmemeber but back when I started riding you sent me pics and instructions on how to install them. I appreciate it man!

My dirt bike was stolen when I was a teenager. I lived in the middle of no where on a farm. I learned the truth how the world really is that day. Now I am always cautious and lock all my stuff up.
I am more experienced with muscle powered bikes but I can reccomend fake rust. Nailpolish with coffeeresidue and ashes, makes great patches of fake rust and is removable.
Maybe get a dummy bike tracker and place it in a somewhat easy to find location. Put it under the seat and connect it to wires that don't go anywhere. Just run a random wire under the tank and make it disappear into the harness. After finding one, I doubt they'd tear apart the bike to find a second one that's better hidden.
I’m really happy I did this all and then some before ever even owning a bike. I’ve spent loads on security and gear. All worth it in my opinion, but tbh home security cameras and driveway alarms mixed with a very uptight neighborhood help so much. I’ve got 6 month left till I’m done saving for my Z900 and I’m very happy with it. Yes you all will probably chew my ass out but I’m ex military and I’ve been planning this for almost a year between saving for gear, security, and research before buying a bike. I’m stuck between a MT-09 and a Z900. I really can’t make my mind up until I ride them I guess.
My Ducati Diavel was stolen 3 weeks ago. The guy is still riding around on it. I even know his name. Sheriff has pictures and all but won't do anything.
I've never had a bike stolen, but I've had my house broken into. I knew who the kid was who broke in and even found my stolen property at the neighborhood pawn shop. I called the police over and over and got absolutely nowhere. They just do not give AF; there is no other way of putting it.
I didn’t know we could get trackers for our bikes.... I think I’ll get a brake disk lock with an alarm and a tracker this afternoon. I’m terrified that my fat bob will get stole, it’s my only form of transport. Thank you!
Disk locks with smaller pins exist because brake disks with smaller holes also exist. Best advice is to get the biggest disk lock you disc brake can fit
Idk where you come from, but where I live, If I posted something that eludes to the possession of a handgun, I will have the police tipping my house, I would be arrested too. Even when I do not have one. Greetings from Australia.
2 things: Checkout Pewag chain. About 62 rockwell IIRC. I bought it by the foot. The vendor said its used as a tire wrap for giant dump trucks to get extra traction. There are test showing it takes about 60 seconds to cut through each side of one link. 2 minutes of grinding. Thats the kind I have with a massive Abus lock. Those Zena alarms blow. The locks are fairly stout deterrents unless you are the Lock Picking Lawyer. My alarm worked about 2 weeks before it began going off randomly so much I removed it from the lock.
I was going to say that. You don't recharge them. But, they rely on other people having tiles or the app on their phone to be tracked so not great. Someone in the comments mentioned putting a dummy tracker in an obvious place like under the seat though, and I've got some dead tile mates from years past... Sounds like a plan.
Lmfao I hope you're not joking cause I'm thinking about doing the same thing once I get a motorcycle , I'm currently building a ramp on stairs so I can ride it straight to my living room.
Bike in locked private garage, 19 mm almax chain through the rear wheel with a abloy lock, wall anchor with a 16 mm pragmasis chain that is locked through the frame of the bike with a antipinch decice locked with a squire lock, tracker hidden on the bike and a oxford alpha 110 db disc lock on the front wheel .. I sleep all right :)
The dad of one of my buddies has his own twist on anchored locks. Basically they are hardened steel rods embedded in hunks of concrete that operate hydraulically. His bike is basically nailed to the ground, but only on the wheels. So if you had an entire day I guess you could run away from there with the bike, but without the wheels.
I have a GPS tracker that is hard wired into the bike and hidden in an uncommon area as well as use rotor locks but I do have the extra luxury of knowing what happens if someone gets caught with my stolen bikes. There is no need or use in reporting a bike stolen in Texas at all because they never even look for it, honestly most cops are useless when it comes to bikes but being part of a club helps to locate it.
According to my manual, my bike comes stock with an immobilizer built in. The ECU changes the password with the electronics built into the key each time the bike is started, and will not start without the proper code. So that's a cool deterrent for the 2018 Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special. Might also start using my helmet lock with cable on the rear tire and through the frame just for the hell of it. But I'm sure the 3mm steel cable could easily be cut with side cutters/ pliers. Gonna watch that video from fortnine now.
For anyone who likes to tinker, here's an old school, cheap and easy, homemade option that I have on my vintage machine that's way too easy to hotwire: You'll need to purchase a mercury switch and a toggle switch to wire it into. They're cheap. Mount them somewhere discreet (mine is mounted inside my toolbox, with the toggle switch coming through a hole that I drilled in the top of the toolbox.) Wire this setup into your battery and into your horn (three separate wires: mercury switch to toggle switch, toggle switch to battery, and mercury switch to horn.) Finally, set the angle of the mercury switch so that it activates when the bike is standing level. That's it. Now, anytime you park your bike in a place where you're concerned about theft, flip on the toggle switch, and if someone stands the bike up without turning it off, the horns will immediately start blaring. Homemade motorcycle alarm that is a solid deterrent to thieves.

An individual stealing is going to attempt starting and riding off , professional will likely have a truck . 30 seconds or less if it's not chained to something. They may have a particular model they need . Got an order for parts or a whole bike. Making it least easy is best bet.
I wreck my bike and had a buddy come with his truck to pick it up. It took the two of us about 10 seconds to throw the bike in the back. It must shows how easy it is to steal a bike.
Once I get my bike, I plan on using it as a daily commute to school, but I’m legit so scared that someone is gonna steal it as soon as I just spent close to all my savings. But I feel like if anything, I have a higher chance of somebody backing into it, scarping it with a door on the side, or just knocking it over or some stupid thing like that. But I’m definitely scared somebody is gonna get all ballsy and steal it.
I bring a lock with me everywhere and always lock it even when I walk in to Walmart or a restaurant. And I store in my basement whenever I’m not riding it and I’m still worried about someone stealing it 😂
I got my Runner 180 stolen the first day I bought it. Brought daylight, 2 minutes! I even saw him getting away. There were actually two of them. That was a real frustration. Even more; I saw that thief riding it on multiple occasions, but was helpless to do anything. I called the cops, but they acted very nonchalantly and had no interest in catching that guy, even he wasn`t really riding it hard. A very calm rider ...

I made a shed, sturdy, pqdlock hard to cut, 2 cameras, sensor alarm, 2 oxford chains drilled in brick wall at side of the shed, tracker, disc lock with alarm and one X3. Thinking about putting fence in front. Also 2 baseball bays each near entrance and backdoor. Ive done aloy to protect it
My method: 1- always lock the handlebars 2- oxford disc lock with the alarm system that gets activated by motion (again always lock the handlebars) 3- Bike traker... on that subject, trakers are ridiculously expensive with absurd subscription plans. Buy the Automile tracker. When I bought it it was only $99 with an entire year of service. Now I pay $70 per yer. And the thing works like a charm with updates every 3 seconds and an app that works perfectly. It also comes with the battery adapter to keep it charge all the time. I have never had to use it for real but it gives me peace of mind. And is nice to have a recollection of your rides.
I used a Big f off Abus granite lock and chain, and a disk lock. Once the bike was kicked over, cause they couldn't break the BOFL. The lock was badly scuffed and scratched. Now with battery powered angle grinders it needs to be a really big lock

I own a tile and it doesn’t work as well as an apple tag which I have on my bikes. Also apple tags are smaller. Tile requires that the theft item passes by someone else who owns a tile which is rare. The apple tag only requires that the theft item pass by an iPhone to update exact location.
tip from my own experience. If there's an option, park closer to bikes lighter than yours. My yammy mt125 got lifted into a van and... poof. I was parked beside a fireblade and an R6 at the time. 4 guys fancied the smallest, lightest one.
as a makeshift tracker until you can get a proper one, stick an old phone in the bike somewhere. you can then use a find my phone app and track its location. a phone not being used can usually last about a week before needing charging......better than nothing.
Attach a usb port in your battery box and the phone will always be charged You could probably have one of those apps on the phone that allows you to hear and record from the microphone from another phone

Last week, I had my bike stolen. Had it covered, disc brake lock, cable through the cover, next to another bike (unsecured black Ninja), and custom paint job (one of a kind). Little did they know (nor myself), Honda CBR600F4i comes with the HISS, which locked up the brakes when they tried wheeling it out. Sure, now it’ll cost me a Grom’s worth to fix it all, but at least they didn’t succeed. Alarm is coming next!
A survey here in the UK found covers reduce theft of your bike by 45%
I use an alarm disc lock and a chain .
In the 60s we used pull the distributor rota and take it with us to prevent hot wiring .
You forgot the most important security measure, Insurance full coverage
yes for moneytary comfort, as for the rest it still sucks.
For my $4500 r6, it’s about 250 per month for full coverage. I have no tickets and no accidents. You wanna talk about real theft. It’s called “insurance”, I don’t pay for it screw that

Some tweeker tried stealing our neighbor's R6. Steering was locked, the tweek couldn't get it to unlock and dropped it after about a quarter of the way out of the driveway. Caused about a grand in damage but at least he still has the ride.

Folks, This bike has an INEXCUSABLE flaw
Put tape over my phone camera after I watched the intro because how else would Yammie know I was on the toilet.
Those mounted disc locks are no freaking joke. Worked at a mechanic shop and a guy came in with a bike asking us to cut one off. I made him show us the title and registration. But damn, if they are high quality, ain't nobody stealing that thing unless they pick it up.
Getting my bike stollen and riding at night or in the rain are my biggest fears for when I finally get my bike.
Same, legit one of the reasons for not getting a decent bike :/
I personally think avoid the rain at all cost is worth it, no point in putting yourself in harms way
What bike you bout to get?
I actually set up my tracker the same way because of you. I'm sure you must not rmemeber but back when I started riding you sent me pics and instructions on how to install them.
I appreciate it man!
Can you pass that Info off to me?

However, if a thief is dedicated to steal your bike, there is nothing you can do to stop it short of pulling armed guard on it at all times.
Alan Ross yep - if they want it they will have it regardless. I know someone who had burglars remove their roof tiles to drop in and open the garage from the inside, cut the locks and lift into a van and away 😩

The odds of your bike being stolen are directly proportional to how permanently attached it is to an immovable object.
I have bike from 60s and its super easy to remove spark plug from it, so thats one of my anti-theft mechanisms :DDD
Also carrying 20lb of chain in a back pack is the most secure way to break your back in an accident!
I want you to look at how much a human head weighs...
Just get rid of your head, no problem then 😉
I’m really happy I did this all and then some before ever even owning a bike. I really can’t make my mind up until I ride them I guess.
what'd you get dawg?
Smart. People buy motorcycles and then act like they can’t afford a helmet and jacket.
My Ducati Diavel was stolen 3 weeks ago. The guy is still riding around on it. I even know his name. Sheriff has pictures and all but won't do anything.
Then grab a bud and take it back.
Nah, just shoot them in the face. Should be legal.
Where do you live and why is this happening?
I've never had a bike stolen, but I've had my house broken into. I knew who the kid was who broke in and even found my stolen property at the neighborhood pawn shop. I called the police over and over and got absolutely nowhere. They just do not give AF; there is no other way of putting it.
I didn’t know we could get trackers for our bikes.... I think I’ll get a brake disk lock with an alarm and a tracker this afternoon. I’m terrified that my fat bob will get stole, it’s my only form of transport. Thank you!
Hope you still have your fat bob. Evidently they're easy to steal.
Good video. If getting a disk lock make sure the pin is 10mm or bigger. There are disk locks with thin 5 or 6mm Aluminium or soft steel pins!!!!
Disk locks with smaller pins exist because brake disks with smaller holes also exist. Best advice is to get the biggest disk lock you disc brake can fit

I like the idea of hiding a claymore under the seat.
I was thinking claymore or hand grenade. Blows the bike up - no more security problems. 😂
Officer, I don't have any idea why a guy detonated a grenade on my bike.
2 things:
Checkout Pewag chain.
I had my bike stolen a year ago, had put a lot of money into it, somehow got it back in a couple weeks.
Tile batteries are replaceable and last 1 year or more so it's still a great tracking option.
Unless the theif takes it more than 250ft away from you

BMW s1000rr stolen from our parking garage after I got home from deployment. Welcome back to the United States.
When I got my bike. I already accepted the fact it will be stolen. No wonder I've done 5k miles in a few months.
and did it happen?
I’ve had people lift the cover on the China scooter on the side of my house several times… I’ve disappointed many criminals.
For anyone who likes to tinker, here's an old school, cheap and easy, homemade option that I have on my vintage machine that's way too easy to hotwire:
You'll need to purchase a mercury switch and a toggle switch to wire it into.
Thats smart, will probably stop those kids that like to sit on the bikes and pretend to ride them too
Also being in ATX and working downtown, I'm glad I've been able to Work from Home since early March! Thanks Covid. My Indian is safely tucked into my garage out SW with the door down and my big dog watching over it. Nice local scenery again, as always!

Someone in my old area got their bike stolen, the idiot was also still riding it around, someone from the area recognized it, grabbed a crew and went after him. They kicked him off the bike while they were still going pretty fast, ended up recovering the bike but basically jumped him and stripped him naked and left him in a canyon. Insurance paid out on the bike already so I just dont know what they did with it

But Yam, why don’t ya tell us what tracker to buy?
Once I get my bike, I plan on using it as a daily commute to school, but I’m legit so scared that someone is gonna steal it as soon as I just spent close to all my savings. But I feel like if anything, I have a higher chance of somebody backing into it, scarping it with a door on the side, or just knocking it over or some stupid thing like that. But I’m definitely scared somebody is gonna get all ballsy and steal it.
