Question: Is there a massive difference between pro res raw and 422hq or the one above. I know what raw codes unlock but what I guess I’m asking is outside of those capabilities is the grade better. Trying to work out if I purchase that or a new lens or the flex first.
hey man, yeah I think there is, that extra bit of information can really save your shot. The first job I used prores raw on I was really impressed with it and saved 4-5 shots that would have been not useable if I wasn't able to restore the blown highlights. Since that shoot I've only used raw
Very well-done and beautifully crafted review man. I’ve been thinking about getting this camera for more than 6 months now… the only thing that’s putting me off right now is that I see a lot of super noisy footage coming from the 4D, have you had issues with that? Maybe those people did just expose their footage wrong, but the 8k sample footage in DJIs website looks very noisy as well.. Any input appreciated ☺️ well done.
Thanks man I really appreciate that, the 6k sensor can be a little noisy and yes that is because most people, myself included tend to under expose to not clip highlights because they are not used to shooting internal raw video where you don't have to worry about clipping as much. They start with an image that is 1/4 under then because you moving so much with the 4d, it's easy to move into less light and end up way underexposed and when you push the non raw 6k footage more than a stop you get a lot of noise in the shadows. Some of those shots also probably not color graded properly either, I see a lot of people adding saturation or color boost before applying contrast to log footage and that makes look even worse. I only shoot in prores raw now (then convert that to cinema dng for resolve) so I don't hedge my exposure to left or under anymore, that immediately fixed any noise issues I had with 6k, the 8k is a lot more forgiving. I was surprised to see DJI has a few anniversary specials on the 4d that just seemed to pop up for both the versions, they are pretty sweet deals, so it may be the best time ever if you are on the fence at all
@@ThunderbirdCreative thanks so much man, I really appreciate your thorough reply! Yes, the deals right now are crazy... I think the only reason I am still waiting is because many people said that a new FX3 or FX6 might come out next month... But now when I think about it, even if variable internal ND and super lowlight performance etc, it still won't do everything this camera does in one package... I am somebody who also shoots a lot handheld, not gimbal all the time, so that is another thing where I am thinking a bit... how well it actually performs when doing handheld shots, but I know you can always use sports mode or even lock the gimbal so probably that is not an issue either.
Just bought one. 8k 4D. Thanks for your updated review! Good job.
thanks man, hope you have a blast learning the camera

Please DO NOT DENOISE your audio. It sounds terrible. You made awesome image, you can make awesome audio as well.
if your in scottsdale. I can help you with your audio
I'm a pro audio engineer, Hushai is the best for removing noise while keeping the audio in a useable form.
