    Nissan is really dropping the ball by not making the Xterra anymore, especially having the new Frontier model.

    • @daywalker4029
      @daywalker4029 2 года назад +8

      They discontinued them because they would have needed a complete redesign to pass crash test ratings

    • @DustinB855
      @DustinB855 2 года назад +16

      Wrong was discontinued due to emissions standards, sales figures, and company avg mpg standards. Trust me I think nissan would love to build another xterra but they don't have the cash anymore to develop a new xterra. They struggling just to keep going. Why I have both tho. 2006 xterra and 2022 frontier haha

    • @G34RH34D
      @G34RH34D 2 года назад +4

      The problem is the new safety standards Nissan wasn't willing to to do because of the sales of the Xterra. It didn't seem worth it. At least that is my understanding of why the Nissan Xterra were discontinued.

    The second gen Xterra is an absolute gem. That motor and a manual(AT seemed to be fine after 2010) are a perfect match IMO. If they had changed the interior colors away from that god awful grey, and given it decent looking wheels(PRO4X non withstanding) and added the ability to manually shift the automatic , they would have sold alot more.
    I have a 2000 Xterra XE with only 178k on her, original clutch. Looks like absolute hell, but runs better now than it did when I bought her in 2012 with 57k on her. I wouldnt hesitate to drive her across the country right now.
    I also lived in my for 9 months when I took an extended vacation between jobs. It was one of the best times of my life.

    Xterras were such an awesome truck. Good size (about the size of a Wrangler), 5000 lb towing ability, had the Pro 4X trim which came with a rear locker, and pretty reliable, too (if you caught it before you got the SMOD). Nissan made a mistake by discontinuing them.

    The second gen Xterra is a beast in the snow it's great off road and its a smooth ride on the highway. The only thing I don't like about it is that there was no factory option for a front locker. I have the rear E Locker in the rear but sometimes when it is steep and loose it would be nice to have the front locked.

    Beware of radiator flaw. I had an Xterra and loved it - it died on me at about 250k miles, which is still a decent run, so no complaints. But, what did it in is apparently a fairly common problem with these 4.0 engines when they hit higher mileage - but it’s totally fixable if you proactively address. The flaw is that the transmission fluid in the radiator can be prone to mixing with your coolant over time - there are blogs and videos on this of you search for it. Get this problem area fixed and I’m sure your Xterra can go many many more miles. Cheers!
