This was honestly such a banger of an opening to a game. when you talk about game intros that sucked me right in from the start, NOTHING hits quite like FM4's opening cinematic. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
Such a fun game, the graphics still hold up pretty well, the gameplay is great. Great story great characters, it's hard to believe that i actually think 3 is better, but that is in no way saying 4 isn't good. 3 is IMO a masterpiece
3 is my absolute favorite in the series followed by the remaster of 1st mission on the ds but i agree it doesn't take away that 4 was a great tactical rpg it's just that 3 had so much depth.
3 is also a favorite of mine, but I admit there's bias for it being my first one. I'm sure it was the first for many outside japan for over a decade since it was still the most available one since it was (and as of august 2022 still is) on the PS Store playable on the PS3, PSP and PSVita. To me, Front Mission 3 stands out due to the attention to detail. How heavy the mechs moved, how the mechs flinched when hit, the bullet holes weapons would leave into the map that could still be seen when the camera zoomed out. It gave the game a very well realized playing field that was very fitting for a Real Robot setting. For some reason I felt FM4's combat was too fast in comparison, but my guess is that it was probably on purpose, based on player feedback as battles in almost all Front Mission games were faster than 3. I think japanese fans felt that the most since Front Mission 2 had very dynamic and fast battles that made Front Mission 3 feel like a slog. I can tell this now, decades later, thanks to translation patches that allowed me to play FM1 (before the DS release), 2 and 5 for direct comparison. I'm still saddened that translation work on Alternative wasn't completed. It's a prequel and very unique in terms of fully realized real-time squad tactics on the PS1. A very ambitious title indeed. However the game can still be played. There is an option hidden in the game's menu to turn the hud into English so people can still actually play the missions. The partial translation mostly translate item, weapon and equipment names.
we cant. TBS genre always have small market. now a day AAA games always go "sale big or dont". you think cod/fortnite kids gonna buy this stuff? and they are the largest customer in video game market. not to mention that this genre is dying from AAA market. and SQE did a very good job to bury this franchise by closed the coffin with FM evolved and nailed it down with Left alive.

@@idontlikerome2744 Oh man, Need for Speed Underground 2. My career car was a Mustang. But in free modes, I loved using my Mazda RX-8. The Zenith Series was my favorite. When I decided to use a gameshark for FM4, there was a variant that could carry heavy loads. So I made the entire Durandal and Caracas Liberation/UCS Deserter use the Zenith and it looked like the most badass thing ever. Again, still angry I can't use the Gepard D:
The Zenith is Jade Metal-Lyman's flagship model from OCU Australia and is what Elsa was issued with during her service with the Durandal, the Blizzaia meanwhile is Diable Avionic's lightweight variant of their flagship Frost model from UCS North America, one issued to Darril during his service in the UCS Army's 332nd mobile company which he then technically stole upon desertion. While I do not know for sure on what models the regular Zaftran regular army uses, their special forces units mainly operate Dmitri Corp.'s Zhelanie and Oborona models while specialists use the Vyzov, perhaps the regulars use the Type 65 and Zeder models as seen in Ukraine while the airborne units use the Zaigaut.
@@sonnykwong8801 thanks for this info. I kinda remember reading this many years ago.. Yeah I remember Vyzov, that thing looks sick, especially when it equipped both arm with melee weapon. Ivanovna that name I remember, but that guy who always wear both melee weapon I don't remember his name
frontmission 3 and 4 are the best tactical mech games ever made gundam overworld is a close third alongside world and wars (but those are gundam games not as "realistic" as a wanzer hunting down a tank with a huge iron rod like in front mission)
Yes, the plane that crashes in the beginning of the game is part of a payment to the Zaftrans for helping the corrupt Governer of Venezuala secede from the USN.
Just by how it feels Wanzer feels superior than those one year war ground units. But those mobile suit tech escalated quickly, against later age mobile suits, despite how cool they are I don't see wanzers can beat those beam spammer that can also do suicide G stunts without killing their pilots.
that's not even equal on tech term... I'll do you one better... Between Patlabors Mech VS Wanzer, which one perform and handles better, even on war level? I'd still bet wanzer but patlabors shows a lot on how utility mech are actually viable and as good as their real word counterpart.
It's tough cuz Wanzers are around 5.5 meters tall when Mobile Suits are between 18 and 20 meters tall, making even mass produced units 4x taller. Wanzers would reach the knee of a Mobile Suit. In terms of mass and the size of the guns, Mobile Suits have a huge advantage, specially since there's the chance of a Newtype pilot that is essentially a Jedi. It would be a more fair match against ATs from Votoms. Front Mission (the first game) is particularly inspired by the 2nd arc of Votoms and they have similar sizes (ATs are one meter shorter), functionality (skating, melee, pile drivers...) and have similar weaponry and customization. Against ATs I think Wanzers win easily. ATs have more maneuverability due to their skate breaking, but are very cheaply made easy to destroy (even explained in canon that their fuel is too volatile) and there aren't that many models with different stats. Wanzers have way more hardpoints so they can hold, carry and use more weapons as well as wide variety of models to fit several roles. While there are "Perfect Soldier" programs in Votoms, they are extremely rare (way rarer than pure Newtypes as CyberNewtypes are more numerous, but very unstable) and are also very hard to maintain. What Votoms has that gives it an absolute advantage is scale. While Front Mission is an alternative timeline, Votoms happens in the middle of a galactic war between 2 space-faring factions that have been warring for generations. While I think a single Wanzer can take on several ATs, there's a relative infinity of ATs vs a single planet's worth of Wanzers. Enough of me nerding out hardcore. =P
