I have one that's identical to yours. I noticed that yours was made in November of 1980, and mine was made in August of 1980. I inherited mine from my granfather who passed away many years ago, and he used to play it in the "Old Time Fiddlers" here in Idaho,USA. They are amazing guitars, even though I can barely play. I'm almost 52, and not sure if I will ever learn to play or not. I need to put in new pots and there is a little damage where the bridge screws in to the body. But it still stays in tune. The pickups are ribbon wound, and have a nice mellow "jazz" sound. They were built in the Gibson lawsuit era, where Ibanez pretty much copied the Es-335, and Gibson was not happy about that at all. So they made some changes down the line, but these early ones are really solid. Glad to see yours is doing so well!!
I love my As-50 .. my teacher recommended it to me & i have never looked back since.. love the feel , size, weight, sound .. it’s an All rounder like you said..
Hey, Tina! Thanks for sharing all this information about your gear. I have the same guitar model, an Ibanez AS50. My guitar was made in 1981, though. Your guitar is from 1980 and the pickups on it are the Ibanez V2 pickups. I also have a 1991 Gibson 335 and a 1980 Gibson 335 Pro. Both are great guitars but I absolutely love my Ibanez AS50.
Hi Sandro! that´s good to know! sometimes it´s just like a fantasy that i have about the Gibson ES 335 and maybe the reality really does look different....the Ibanez As 50 from that time are really good guitars i guess... they are getting quite expensive in the meantime aswell:) i always thought the pickups would be seymour duncans? but i really do not know anything about that

@@marcoottaviani2942 picks? i am playing the Jazz Dunlop Jazz III ( not the XL version.... the picks are made from different plastic ;) so i only play the little black ones also i think the little red ones don´t sound as good as the black ones )
I have the same model. I've owned mine since the late 80s. The AS50 was made between 1980 & 1982 I believe. I love the smaller size of it compared to a Gibson 335. I did change my pickups out. I have a vintage Gibson PAF & Duncan in it now. It will stay in my collection til I'm 6ft under. 😉👍
Great video Tina! Older vintage Gibson? You are playing wonderfully on your AS-50. Many, many guitarists would rather own an AS-50! A guitar is just a tool, enjoy other things with your money. Keep up the good job of helping us clumsy guitarists.
Hi Tina! 🎶
I have a pair of AS-50's Great guitars, though I did change the pickups in mine to PAF style pickups. The V2 pickups were too hot for me. I like the smaller size, not as big as a 335. I have a 1959 Gibson ES-345 which is great, but it's not practical to take out because it's worth too much. Ben Monder also uses an AS-50.
so I'm practicing on my nylon acoustic, my 12 string, and my electric;...alot, I suppose, but I believe it's good for the different genre of music. I have not heard your jazz work!
Hello, Tina! Hope you're well. Your opinion on 12 string guitars, please.I bought a Vangoa, for $220 American dollars.I read the reviews, and I do like it for the multiplicity of sounds. My first, and probably my favorite, is an old (1970's) nylon Ventura. Best regards! Roberto from Texas
Dear Tina, I inherited the same guitar as yours. I found in the specs that the frets are jumbo size, which is ok, but I found that they are very flat, I mean their height is very low, especially if I compare them to my acoustic guitars. Do you notice the same ?
i think that is very oftern the case if you compare an electric guitar to an acoustic guitar:) i think this guitar is really great and easy to play somebody told me ben minder has been playing it all his career
I have this exact same guitar AS-50 with the same cream pick ups! the neck is unbelievably easy. pls do not trade or sell this gem. ibanez stopped making these in the 1980's. throw some distortion on this guitar and it really screams
Me too! I got my 1980 AS50 when my grandfather passed away. He played with the "Old Time Fiddlers". I need to do some work on the electronics, but I just haven't gotten around to it. They are beautiful guitars, and the value just keeps going up!
@@TangoCharlieAlpha well said my friend. mine was given to me from my father so I know exactly the feeling having such a wonderful instrument. hope ur well during these times
very cool video 👍 I absolutely love these older Japanese IBANEZ. I had several of them... my all time favorite has been a AM50. This is the same guitar as your AS50, just with a little bit smaller body. Like Gibson ES335 and ES339.
Hi Tina. Thank you for that. I've seen you playing through a Fender Amp recently. What amp is it. I actually like the sound of it very much. Does it have a build in reverb?
Hi Tina, thanks for sharing this. Did you tried flatwounds? I play a tele (and strat) with flats. Love that sound. But music is not in the gear or wallet, but in you mind and ears.
Hi Jan Willem yes i tried flatwounds ... but i am really not to excited about them - maybe i should try them one more time (it´s a long time ago) i am always very lazy with trying out new gear stuff
hey tina, very interesting video! After buying some different guitars in the last 2 years, i came to the conclusion that every guitar can sound really bad on some days in some rooms. Doesnt matter how expensive or well build they are...... Hard to except but i fear its true:D Same with amps i guess.... Greetings
thank you Arne! yes i think there is no way of controlling the sound in an absolute way... still i think one has a better chance to have a good sound with some guitar and amp combination than with another 😊hope you are doing fine and maybe one day we can meet in person and have a coffee and discuss guitars best wishes tina
