A blue slimeball protagonist!! How did that not become an instant classic?

I know right?! If the American version hadn’t been so barebones it might have faired better.

One of my favorite SNES games as a kid to the point that I got it again recently. My only issue with the game is that I couldn't save when I played it as a kid and can't save today. So you have to start so over each time you put in the cartridge. Is that supposed to happen? Or is it probably a save battery issue? Just strange it was a thing back then in the 90's when I played it and I never opened up my current copy because I don't have soldering experience and I know that's required for some SNES save batteries.

Fantastic work! I've never heard of this game, but you really packed this video with interesting information. I kinda want to check this one out.

4:32 I'm confused about the significance of the DSP in relation to thid game. The DSP is mentioned, and what it does, but never really mentions how the gsme benefits from the DSP

Thanks for all the research into this because even though I knew about name change of the Japanese version I never played either game for longer than 5 minutes and I didn't realize they butchered so much of the essence of the game with the US release. But what Sony Imagesoft did wasn't all that unique or strange given the climate back then assuming that any entertainment medium involving Japanese aesthetics or culture wouldn't appeal to us in the West. It's ironic too given just 6 years later GameFreak would dominate all of the west with it's Pokemon franchise including merchandising, card games and a morning Anime cartoon.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I would love to work my way into doing long form video essays. Hopefully someday I will!
