Hi everyone! Apologies for the long wait, I've been completely inundated by university work over the past few weeks so have had very little opportunity to work on this video, but here finally is part 3! Hope you enjoy. If you haven't yet seen parts 1 or 2, they're linked in the video description. Have a great day, Charlie :)
maybe you should respond to the comment from @GodAtum saying 'don't worry, you'll have plenty of time at uni to make vidoes lol' from the part 1 video... a lot of people have no clue whatsoever about what doing a degree in 2024 entails, and they need to be educated about that. a degree is a full-time job, not a joke thing.
Really really impressively planned and executed, I truly would never have thought these sort of distances possible if it wasn't for both your and Travelling Turtle's videos!
Great to see Part 3 out and can't wait for Part 4. I think you think with the exception of the Globe Holiday bus we followed a similar route here so I'm going to o guess that you'll ride on the 36 from Leeds to Ripon? Keep up the great work!
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourney Thankfully it wasn't as eventful as I feared with only really a couple of small delays! Yeah, really interesting to see where you end up, especially as you came from much further south!
I dont know if this counts but the 700 from chatham to bluewater uses the A2 from earl estate to bluewater but it's mainly just a continuation of the M2 motorway. Its a 4 lane carriageway and has a max speed of 70. Anyway i love this series!!! Keep it up!
Years ago, there were quite a few limited stop bus services using our motorways, many using DP single deckers but double deckers featured on a few, both regularly and occasionally. The 90s would largely see their decline, mainly due to increasing traffic congestion.
It's a shame to see motorway buses have been on the decline. The demand is definitely there today - more and more people are looking for affordable ways to travel mid-distance.
I used to take the X24 from Bishop Auckland to MetroCentre with Arriva when that ran years ago which picked up the motorway from Chester-le-Street to direct to MetroCentre. No seatbelts needed but I do remember the drivers having to be strict on having no standing passengers. The X21 & 50 GNE busses use the same motorway today but for much shorter stretches.
Quite a few buses in Birmingham use the Aston Expressway A38(M). Have definitely used it once trying to get to Nuneaton by bus when there was train problems. I took something like the X16 to a random housing estate on the edge of Tamworth. There was nobody crowding to get on unlike the main route to Tamworth or the route to Coventry, which were the other options for getting closer to home by bus.
Amazing journeys! You made it from London to Leeds like I hoped on all the buses that I knew leading to there & still got time to go further within the 48 hours. I think it might be possible to reach Durham in a few more buses. Some buses from Leeds go some long distances going further north.
I spotted the mainline X3 which recently changed from X78 to X3 and Mainline is a OG oprator run all over South Yorkshire nice to see one of ours in the video
Brilliant video, thank you! I love Yorkshire, so this is the best one so far for me. Great to learn that Sheffield is a CAZ, strange that you don't hear of as many people moaning about it as in London!
Thank you! Not sure how tightly the clean air zone in Sheffield is enforced but the traffic in Sheffield does seem considerably better than in other cities a similar size.
The 702 is a double deck bus which uses a section of the M4 from London to Windsor, and maybe also you could say the 724 for the M4 spur. I think Uno also operate one on the A1M. Looking forwards to your next video.
Thank you! I'd love to try the 702 sometime. The Uno route you referred to is the 614/644, come to think of it I have taken the 614 from Barnet to Hatfield before along the A1(M).
This part 3 is amazing! I feel super sorry for you Charlie that you got unlucky with the allocation of an E400 on your X17 journey up to Sheffield. If only you got the actual E400 MMC instead for the full entire journey but it’s alright.
Buses on the M-way; Some 'express' journeys between Richmond and Darlington use or used the A1M and the A66M, some journeys between Lancaster, Kendal and Ambleside are express journeys via the M6 between Lancaster and Kendal, there is also the Ensign service between the Lakeside and Bluewater shopping centres via the Dartford Crossing - strictly the crossing is the A282 rather than the M25, but it may or may not use the M25 away from the actual bridge/tunnel. In Scotland, the X74 Dumfries - Glasgow uses the A74M and M74 extensively north of Moffat - its a very grand bus service, operated by high floor full spec luxury coaches (with toilets), but as you can turn up and pay the driver I think it counts as a bus!
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourney Well, I've never dared travel on the X80, given the continual chaos on the Dartford Crossing - you can't be sure you'll be able to return! And with the Tilbury Ferry closing, there isn't even that alternative any more!
It's a real shame that the Tilbury to Gravesend crossing was removed, though I can see how it wasn't profitable. The X80 definitely isn't a reliable way to get across the Thames with the horrendous traffic, but it's quite an experience to be travelling on a local bus on one of the busiest river crossings in the UK.
Meadowhall is where you got to on the last attempt, so in order to get there in just over 1 day, from London, is brilliant! I'd love to stop at Sheffield if only to go into the shopping center at Meadowhall - as there's one shop in particular that I really need to visit (my only options for this shop are Sheffield/Meadowhall or Milton Keynes!).
Indeed! A much better route this time. Meadowhall shopping centre and surrounding area is definitely worth an explore. I've spent an entire afternoon just wandering around Meadowhall before, there's plenty to do whether you like shopping, or transport, or both!
Others have done the 36 route to continue north from Leeds. I would wonder if the plan may be for what was then the X84 Ilkley for the 66 to Skipton, then the 580/567 route to Kendal for points north, or maybe the Coastliner to Whitby then Middlesbrough then the X10 to Newcastle and then X15 to Berwick upon Tweed
According to some training I was doing at a bus company, buses can go on motorways without seatbelts as long as there's less than I think 15 minutes between stops
That's interesting. The X17 was definitely on the motorway for less than 15 mins, but for routes like the MK1 running on the M1 down in Bedfordshire I'm not so sure.
no it's the 36 as he said looking at the departure bored can you take a guess, neither 840 or 843 were on it so I'd assume 36 either that or X84 to connect on to Skipton service 64.

Yes! I've been waiting for another one of your awesome bus challenge videos
Thank you for your support! Looking forward to bringing part 4 to you soon, hopefully by the end of the month :)
I love watching these and I can’t wait to see where you’ll end up. Also makes me wanna pop over and make my own buss adventure in the uk.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. They're keeping the £2/3 fare cap until December 2025 so now's your opportunity!
@ oh. Well. Then I have to get over rather soon then. :)

I've done MK1 between Luton and Milton Keynes. And 757 Luton to London Victoria. Both along the M1

Wow, the X74 sounds like a fun journey! The X80 travels solely on the A282, unfortunately it doesn't use any sections of the M25.
@@ItsAllAboutTheJourney Well, I've never dared travel on the X80, given the continual chaos on the Dartford Crossing - you can't be sure you'll be able to return! And with the Tilbury Ferry closing, there isn't even that alternative any more!

A fair few buses from East Lancashire going to Manchester use the M66 and M60.

There used to be a direct bus from Sheffield to Leeds that ran up the M1, I cannot recall the route number though.
That would have been great for this trip! Sheffield to Leeds is a particularly slow section which requires lots of changing buses.
My guess is you’re gonna head up north to Harrogate. A pretty big town in North Yorkshire with great connections for up north
You'll have to wait and see...
There’s a Leeds urban route (51/52) that uses the M621 for a short distance
I see, that's interesting!

Only this week I was on the McGills 901/906 from Glasgow to Largs which uses the motorway, and runs every 15 minutes, as another example
Wow that's interesting, I'm not too familiar with buses around Glasgow but judging by the route it looks pretty scenic.
Bus Challenge
I'm guessing that u will be going towards Harrogate next time
I would consider you'd taken thw Coastliner 840. I did it sometime ago and it was brilliant. I wonder where you'll eventually end up.

Finally
I could have done the same trip for free. My Essex County Council issued over 65 travel card is valid on all the X series busses.
Chesterfield is the town.
Thanks for the clarification!
