I learned the "sunglasses trick" from an older fashion model and opera singer (a stunning red head from Houston GO!) when we worked together at an apparel mart. She would arrive on time, looking put together with sunnies and 💄,then went to settle her things in a fitting room. Then she'd remove her sunglasses and apply her eye makeup. Kudos to her for not doing it during her commute! She truly was an elegant woman and great example.
I think it’s hurtful too going to an underprivileged country while wearing real jewelry. I’ve always travelled solo since I was 18 and always wore what the people wear where I’m going for safety reasons and also respect, typically I just buy bracelets there from people who sell what they made. It feels nice to be one with the community where I’m going.
It is also safer to travel with fake jewelry. I always get my gold lost or stolen at hotels. So I only use real gold and diamonds at my local area or when traveling for a special wedding or event. I hardly travel with real jewelry
Myka, thank you, Thank you! You mentioned many key points here. Don't pack or wear fine jewelry, out of respect to other cultures and societies you will visit. Walk through common areas modestly while covered. There are beautiful beach/pool coverups out there! I always pack my travel steamer and back up bottle of polish and remover towelettes in case I have to do an emergency manicure and have no time or can't find a convenient salon. I absolutely agree. It's showing kindness, respect and that's true elegance.
Even if you are a budget traveler, stay elegant! I have traveled to Italy three times in the last 2.5 years. I stayed in B&B's. I live in Israel. The first time was during COVID so I flew Aegean to Athens then connected to Sicily. So regular airline. I returned by taking the overnight train to Rome where I was going to fly to Frankfurt then Tel Aviv. The Frankfurt flight was delayed but my luggage was in hold so I only had my carry on. That taught me to pack a simple change in my carryon. I had worn jeans and a sweater because of the train. I was treated not so nicely in Rome, although not horribly but Frankfurt was awful! I'm an older woman but the Passport control woman treated me like I was carrying a nuclear bomb. I almost didn't get thru. Then at the gate, I was wanded and patted down twice, even made to take off my shoes. No one else was. When I traveled in 2021 and last month, I flew directly to Rome. In 2021, it was Ryan but I dressed nicely and was treated with respect. Last month, I flew ITA and it couldn't have been a better experience, even in economy. Because I was traveling in chilly weather, I had found a very elegant coat in a consignment shop and was wearing that. Israelis usually don't wear elegant coats but I didn't want to go to Italy in a short puffy jacket. When I got there, and I was in Salerno, not Milano or Rome, all the women had beautiful winter coats. Very few were wearing jackets and those who did were overall casual, with jeans. Dressing well definitely made a difference in how I was treated.
Perfect timing for this video! I will be traveling next month and want to be as put together as possible. It's a casual mom and daughter trip to Florida, but that doesn't mean I need to look haphazard and ruffled. I enjoy your videos and look forward to learning more from you! Thank you!
Great tips. It's shocking how many people walk through a hotel lobby revealing way too much. A lobby should be treated like a public square. If you wouldn't wear an outfit in the square outside the hotel, you shouldn't wear it inside the lobby either. I don't generally wear a frosted polish on my fingernails. But I always choose a very pale shade of whatever I'm wearing on my fingers for my toe nails in a frost finish. The frost reflects light so the eye doesn't notice imperfections and I don't like drawing attention to my feet with bright colors anyway. I live in Florida and you know our feet are always on display. I'd rather change a doctor's appointment than miss my mani/pedi! Enjoy your vacation.
I agree with you, too! I always wear light colors on both my fingernails and toenails-I can’t stand bright colors drawing attention on my less-than-perfect feet. Londontown nail concealers are my favorite for a stress-free mani-pedi to do myself, and they will always be on my packing list.
I love this video! Thank you! Could you do one on tipping? Who we are suppose to tip-maids, valet, room service and how much is appropriate? It would be so helpful!! Thank you again!! ❤
Dear Myka, At the beginning, (around 0:45?) you said you'd tell us what we should be wearing when we arrive at the hotel to receive better service. What do you recommend? (no red lipstick today - 😯)
Great advice! Question: how do you pack a hat that does not collapse or does this become a carry on item? Love, love, love your wallpaper! Your outfit works well with it. 💖
Great tips! Will keep this in mind for my next upcoming vacation. Ps. Thank you for sharing all of your wisdom and positive energy. After reading your book and taking two of your courses (Duchess Effect & Finishing Program) I feel like I’ve grown so much ❤
I was in a sorority in college and we wore plastic crowns (as it was one of our symbols) at large welcome functions. As I was leaving a little girl asked me where I got my crown, So I took it off and gave it to her. She was so happy. I would imagine wearing costume jewelry and being able to offer it to someone local that compliments it would be a lovely gesture and way to make a person smile. Not sure if that would be good etiquette, but I think it would be a nice thing to do since you are visiting their home space. 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you Myka. You might have mentioned this in previous videos, however, would you be happy to share where you buy your headbands? They are lovely 😊. Thank you
Thanks for the video. I'm excited about my own trip this summer. I was also wondering about the straw hat. It's so pretty, but how do you travel with it? I do like to travel light and was considering one of those hat clips at Amazon, but are they good on the plane?
Great tips! I match my mani/pedi year round (even though no one sees my toes 7 months of the year). I am totally team sunnies and sun hat at the pool and beach :)
Thank you for those elegant travel tips! May I ask what steamer you're using? Mine is too clunky for international travel and I'm not sure if it would even work with a converter. I'd also love to know more about where you like to shop for caftans. Thank you 💕
Myka, I know this is off topic, but awhile back you did a video about personal branding which covered mostly attire. I'm wondering if you could cover a related topic such as how to choose a stationary with one's initials? Is this still relevant in 2023?
I never pack expensive items with labels because it makes going through airports more difficult. In some countries, they will check your bags for "contraband of the day" and it might just be a Polo shirt or your watch or sunglasses. I'd rather not deal with that.
Excuse me, 2023 and people still believe that diamonds should only wear after 6pm and should not bring it on holidays???😂 I say this it may hurt your feelings but in Aisa people are wearing a lot of real gold and real diamonds jewelry as daily basic. Especially on traveling they even bring more fancy jewelry for their luxury travel. I saw all Indian lady’s wearing real gold real diamonds jewelry at day time too. You think it’s not elegant to wear diamonds it but you choose to wearing cheep chunky earring and fake gold rings on every fingers ? Isn’t it against elegant as well?! I truly believe wearing small diamonds stud or diamonds earring and small real gold on the vacation is really normal. I mean unless you going to do charity that will be hurtful and disrespect to poor people but you are on your vacation and bring some find jewelry to wear isn’t a crime. For safety, you never knows if you will be a target of small thief but if you don’t feels like it, at least not against it. An elegant woman’s knows how to wear her jewelry and being humble but I believe she would not changes her life style to be fit in. And I think you should buy some real diamonds and real gold while traveling to some countries in Asia like India, Vietnam, China, Hongkong, Korea e.t.c, their prices is way different than in Europe. So keep an open mind about it instead of judging someone elegant basic on that.

I totally agree with you. I do the same. I leave the jewelry and designer clothes at home. I dress like the people dress where I’m going
@@aeiou0123 so true 💝
I always leave my diamonds and gold at home.Expensive watches as well.
What a beautiful and kind mindset you have ❤ enjoy your travels and I wish you continued safety 😊

What a lovely thing to do. I'm sure you made her day😊, tfs
It does not work all the time. Often they might steal from you as well as they might think she would not mind.
Myka reading yr book mowe, you are a breath of fresh air
Hi Myka! Can you please provide the details or a link on the black hat at 12:30? Thank you so much!

Thank you Myka. You might have mentioned this in previous videos, however, would you be happy to share where you buy your headbands? They are lovely 😊. Thank you

I'm hoping to travel soon this year just not abroad though

Does your jewelry tip extend to your wedding ring? Do you take a different one when traveling?
What do you wear in place of your wedding rings?
I have thin simple bands for travel. You can also wear the silicone gym ones. There are some great styles in those.
I tried to open the link to shop my look and it didn’t open. Showed it was an error

Where did you get your hat? I too need to stay out of the sun because I have sensitive skin that will flair up.
Love your outfit!
Thank you so much!

Does the “no real jewelry” tip include wedding/engagement rings? Would you wear some sort of costume ring instead?
Time stamps would be super helpful 🙏🏼🥰
Noted! Thank you for watching 🥰
How do you pack that hat?
If it has a chin strap I let it dangle on my back until I'm sitting
What do you recommend to wear instead of your wedding rings?
I never wear wedding ring while traveling. I've seen people wearing more decorative silicone bands and am considering taking a look
Love the silicone bands
Do you have a travel steamer that you love? It’s a great idea if I can find a small one that is travel friendly :)
I have some steamer options on my Amazon storefront, I can add a travel edition also! Check out my link tree ❤

Regarding jewelry, I wonder if I can wear my wedding rings that have diamonds?💍🤔

Yes, buying gold in Hong Kong is one of my favorite overseas shopping experiences. I will always treasure my gold bracelet.
How do you rewear the same blouse twice on a trip? Tops get sweaty and gross after being worn once 🫥
Myka can you give us some tips with RV traveling. I travel with hubby in the RV. I find elegance down in the dumbs. How about some tips
I can't wear sequence for breakfast .,,..lol just kidding
