I do listen/watch Pete. Some very kind words recently. I did exactly what you said today, I put the phone down & went practicing. I can see you're playing good golf, I've got work to do. I'd be more than happy to come on & learn from you guys.
amazing !!
It feels like a lot of this “I played amazing course x”content is purely aspirational for the average person …some acknowledgement of the true cost of a tee time in the videos might situate it in reality a bit and at least be a nod to the fact that they are out of reach for most. Otherwise it can be the elephant in the room in a way as we are asked to suspend disbelief. Part of the fun is watching you get to go to these places and I certainly watch on the other hand.
Bit harsh on Kieran that. Spot on with his Aldi German brothers info
After talking about the price of courses and adding your top ten, perhaps you could do a repeat but your top ten municipal courses with prices in the UK, as i'm not rich I'm always scanning the web for municipals to play. Then perhaps a top ten of under £50 courses. I think it would be well received by the majority of us.
Glad someone is talking about green fees. There are great deals to be had out there with the likes of GolfNow etc but me & a friend recently had a bit of an urge to play a links course yet every one we've looked at seems to be pushing at least £70-80 which is far too rich for our level of ability. Alas we'll be sticking to digging up inland parkland courses - we're clearly not the intended audience!
I hope you enjoyed the stay and the craic in Ireland lads!
Love that Thracian Cliffs got a mention, it’s incredible and I would love to watch you play it! I’d be so interested how you compare it to the likes of Old Head as its jaw dropping and Kieran would LOVE the drone footage!!
Another great pod guys, looking forward to the new content coming out ❤⛳️🏌️♂️
Also a hidden gem in Ireland druids glen and lough erne! Stunning!
Been loving your content right now, the matches, the quest for the open, the comps you've entered, it's all been great and it's great to see your game going well. It's so interesting to see you and Jimmy Bullard putting in the work for the open qualifying and putting out the content, compared to Rick just playing his usual games. I would put you and jimmy as having a fair crack at qualifying, while Rick has got no hope
'rick just playing his usual games'
dude it's youtube golf.. i think you might be taking it a bit too seriously
love pete, love rick and especially love when they collab together.
They aren’t pros my guy it’s not that serious!
P.S. Rick would dust you in a match
Luckily in Ireland there are plenty of good courses that are reasonably priced.
Also Pete and team you need to check out links up in County Donegal
Brilliant podcast 👏
@Pete .. Would you and the team ever consider a cross country tour of the top course in each Province in Canada?.... BC, Alberta for the amazing views of the Rocky Mountains, Ontario has some spectacular courses.. especially the recent hosts of the Canadian Opens, Nova Scotia with Cabot Cliffs?
Pretty sure it would be cheaper on the budget than flying all over the USA as well.
I played Ballybunion in 2008 for the second time and it was the most incredible day, sun, no wind. We asked the members and they have never seen such a great weather day. Best links course ever.
Would love to know your thoughts on kingsbarns Pete! What a place!
Living in the North West I am really fortunate to be within 45 mins of Royal Birkdale, Hillside, S&A, Formby, West Lancs, Hesketh, Formby Hall as well as Wallasey, Royal Liverpool Hoylake and Royal Lytham which is quite a list of fabulous courses which provide differing experiences. My favourites are Formby and Hillside but still want to experience some of the Scottish courses mentioned earlier.
Hey Pete and the team, come south south!!!! Royal St George's, Royal Cinque Ports, Princes
Love to see you play the more accessible (cost wise) around the area as well to see what you can score
The issue with golf prices is that you can say it’s the market but the market suffers so much distortion.
Soo many more in Ireland as well, Carne, Waterville, Dukes, Killeen Castle, Tralee, Druids Glen to name a few!
Need to get you to the Irvine golf club! A cracking links course!
as always, great fun. Wonder what your thoughts are on the LPGA US Open, the course, the scores, etc. Thought you might talk it over in this episode.
The green fees for international players is crazy in Ireland and makes it so expensive to play there.
Recently vsisted Pebble Beach eye watering costs as ypu can only play there if you have two nights in the hotel plus green fees little change from $3000 , way too steep for me but it was nice to see the course
You can play Spyglass and Spanish Bay without staying. Still very expensive mind!
So glad to hear North Berwick in the top 10. It's my #1.
Visit Melbourne, play the Sandbelt... inexpensive and some of the best golf in the world...
Kieran is a walking book of Knowledge :-) I live in Germany and we have Aldi North and Aldi South, there are two Brothers who each own one of them.
So an apology is due, I think 🙂
Next trip New Zealand.
Has to be Ireland with over 400 courses, and over 170 in Northern Ireland. I don't think you can find as many courses in such a small area
As an American tourist that has had the good fortune to play in Scotland a few times, I deliberately travel off-season to minimize the cost to green fees. Have been able to play many of the greats (Old Course, Carnoustie, Cruden Bay, North Berwick, and more) at a fraction of the peak rate. I’m with Pete - Scotland all the way!
Aldi and Lidl aren't two brothers, that's a myth... Aldi was split into two (Nord and Sud), shared between 2 brothers (in an argument over cigarettes), Lidl was founded by a totally different family 👍
You used to make videos about budget golf, if I am not misstaken... Could you do some on budget, but good linksgolf for us that trying to save up for a tripp to GB to play golf? That would be so great
Silloth, Powfoot and southerness all great links.
As a relatively cheap round, I would highly recommend Cape Cornwall as an unbelievable links course 👌
You guys definitely need to do a proper New Zealand golf trip. I'd guess you'd have five new golf courses in your top ten after a single trip.
Come play Leopard Creek here in South Africa Pete, would love to know what you’d think of it.
Love the main channel and the podcast, you all do a great job.
Bit of feedback though, I listen to the podcast through a podcast app in the car and sometimes I genuinely can't hear you guys, even with the volume maxd out. I'm assuming it's when your not talking directly into the mics. This isn't a complaint, just feedback, as I love the show, but sometimes I just have to give up trying to listen and listen to something else instead.
I agree with the point of price doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the course. There are plenty of courses in the US that are not worth what they charge.
I get it. But these courses are not intended for the average golfer.
I feel like I have to take out a mortgage on some of these green fees
I would say the front 9 at Portstewart would give royal Aberdeen a run for its money. A lot of people rate it as the best 9 in the world
It's a shame that we are being priced out of playing our own courses. It's really just greed by the courses but what can you do. Why don't you do a few resort course videos that are more affordable to the average golfer. Pick places like the Belfry, Celtic Manor, st.mellion, China fleet gc down the south west.
come to portstewart - it has the best front 9 ha
Kieran was nearly there. Aldi and Lidl aren't brothers, Aldi North (in France, Spain, North Germany +, and Aldi South (UK, US, Australia+) were run by 2 brothers. They used to be one company but fell out over selling ciggies.
Lidl is more of the weird cousin who tries to copy their older relatives.
A recent RUclips golf group hosted a golf event at the belfry which looked great. Curious to know if you boys would be open to ever doing something similar?
I was expecting Tobacco Road to be on the list.
I got the impression that Pete was impressed by TR, but found it a tad gimmicky. Esp given his appreciation for links style courses which are more natural designs.
Lads need to get to Australia
i always play with my wife so double fee, good courses cost us upwards of £300 a knock with buggies crazy!!!!!!!!! Help couples with a decent discount
Great podcast Pete but listening to you three going on about the prices
There is NOT a course on this planet worth the prices you were quoting
The top courses are just ripping off visitors and there is no excuse for it
I think the cost of normal run of the mill courses is more a problem, £50-100 per round I would never pay membership and then pay that money to go and "try" other courses out.
For anyone who watches football content on RUclips too, Kieran looks so much like Buvey. Without them talking, I’d fully believe they’re brothers. Even the mannerisms are similar
4.42 sammy!!!
The Irish links are the best. Probably because of the scenic courses.
What about Druid's Glen ?
Just think how many days away and golf on amazing courses you can play for a single round here on a 1st class course here??……. If you’re even allowed on the course lol
Pete no Englissh course in your top ten?
*are
I think you meant -*Are* best golf courses.. not our
A bit disappointed to see that you didnt give spanish point a shout out
Your comment about having to drive so far between courses in Ireland is really only because you’re playing those top elite courses. Even in the areas you have played, there are lots of clusters of really good courses and links in very close proximity if you want to base yourself in an areas and limit the driving. Within about 5km of portmarnock, you have 5 other really good courses and if you expand that to about 10km cantered around Dublin airport, you are looking at approx 20 courses. The same could be said of the Kerry area around Killarney and Tralee and there are 10 or 15 good inland courses within a 15 minute drive from the K club.
Are*
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Ireland.
Aye, maybe if they had some of these legends.
St Andrew's, Carnoustie, Muirfield, Turnberry, Troon, Kingsbarns, N.Berwick, Prestwick, Dornoch, Castle Stuart and Gullane.
Just because you have an irish name.
ireland 100% has the best link courses - dont agree with the travel around ireland there are definitely pockets of courses in areas and amazing cheaper lower ranked courses
totally agree golf fees are getting way too expensive - i wouldn't pay to play these course but they do have competitions - but these prices are the same throughout the world - top courses in america are up to 1000 dollars
There are a lot of great courses that are affordable - at least in the UK and Ireland. But wealth inequality is spoiling things for normal people in golf just like other areas: housing, concerts, holidays, food, etc etc.
I have to say that videos with a lot of wind are the must unpleasant to watch for the wind noise and understandably the standard of golf will suffer.
Not sure if you're hating on the orange man but does his name and ownership of these courses change the beauty, service and experience?
While you mention cheap, good golf courses that barely see play, you focus your videos on showcasing the higher priced golf courses. Whether in the UK or in the US. RUclipsrs are in the powerful position to sway the opinions of their viewership in terms of what good golf course and experience is.
As I understand it, golf courses pay a premium for a RUclips golf crew to visit their course and highlight it. Maybe, in the interest of "Growing the Game" (Rory, Tiger, Rahmbo, LIV), you forego an appearance fee here or there and put a small course on the map
Wow, only one American course on you top ten. No Augusta .......
re prices, that's fine if they want to charge that, but stop telling us that they want to "grow the game", all they won't to grow is their back balance. and the R&A and usga really wanted to do something about it they could.
I think a huge problem with the green fees and Americans taking them all up is that Americans seem to have more expendable cash for the most part so we are less likely to afford with the green fees. It makes me feel sick to imagine paying gratuity on everything the Americans do in this country on our wages. You would have to redefine the middle class as poor and below the middle class would be back in the poor house.
Golf clubs need to make golf affordable for the young team. Pensioners get enough freebies, without concessions from golf clubs.
Golf is a beautiful game but that aspect of it is a plague.
No more bare legs
Nothig worse than a burnt feast burger
CONSPIRACY!!!
Premium things are expensive. Shocking I know
Never mind “just go and play it”, the more people pay ridiculous green fees, the more ‘ordinary’ golfers are priced out. Are you losing touch with your core audience Pete?
Keeps the trash out.
Sorry, people aren't trash
Spoken like a true liberal hippie
No give people a thing to strive for doesn't make them trash sorry that your not intelligent enough to know the difference
Very Amateurish this.
Why the hate for trump?
Wow, didn’t see that coming. See ya Finch! Stick to golf
Why not?
I think he lost me as well, kangaroo court conviction. I wonder if they know the UK has already been taken over by the horde
Stalin like trial. Trump's courses are impeccable. I wonder if they're aware that the UK has been invaded by the horde, which is what Mr. T is trying to prevent in USA
