North Pittman so long as the weight isn't too much. I've done braids chunky with no issues but it's important to proportion the right amount to hair to support the braids

Very easy to understand and this time of year straightening hair is more popular for the "special occasions". I wear my hair natural all year but I too am tempted to apply heat very soon because its never been so long I just want it to flow in the breeze for a bit, and get a good trim done by myself. You make a great teacher! I always learn something from these videos.

I blow-dried and flat ironed my relaxed hair for 20 years and now all the sudden I'm nervous about it! I think it's because now that I've discovered these beautiful curls, I just don't want to mess them up.

OMG thank you so much for this information!! I've been natural for 15 years & used to straighten my hair every 1-2 weeks. Needless to say, my heat damage was real even with a heat protectant. Now I've been heat free for 18 months & would really like to straighten my hair & get a good trim (it's been 12 months since my last trim on blown out hair😱😱). I've been doing tons of research on how to protect my luscious curls & this video is the best I've come across! So detailed & easy to understand! I feel like I owe you a fee! Thank you again!

This was extremely informative.
I blow dried my hair after applying my diy flaxseed gel, it was by accident, but my blow out was almost as straight as my flat iron look! I don't use heat at all in the summer, and occasionally during the winter months I like to have the manageability and sleek look a blow out provides; plus the blow out state seems to help with not losing as much hair in my nape due to hats and scarves for some reason. Awesome video!

I don't even put heat in my hair no more b/c my hair ignores it completely my 4c hair does what it wants to do but everyone hair is different but I do enjoy watching your videos and appreciate u actually taking time out your day to give us helpful information.
kimberly townsend yes I agree that some people have hair that is extremely resistant to smoothing with heat styling. It's best to never try to force your hair to do something it just doesn't want to do. Everyone's hair responds to heat differently and that is why it's very important to know your hair.

Wow! I am a white woman with multi-textural hair. Mostly woman in my fam and they have baby fine, curly hair all the way to course, thick beàutiful African hair. My hair got confused somewhere when the genetics were passed out, 😂.
I find liquid/foams work best near my scalp, and cream protectants are the only thing I have found that works on the mid section and the bulk of my hair. The crazy confused curls at the nape of my neck do well with serums or heavier creams in order to get any elongation. I have to manage this section because it tends to kink up into big messy, bunchy curls that disallow the rest of my hair to lay down my back and shoulders.
Argan oil is the worst thing to put in my crazy confused hair!

This video came just in time, lol. I'm 14 months post relaxer and my daughter's are natural. I've been air drying our hair every wash day since Feb and our hair has gotten thick and strong. With the fall here (not really in Alabama) I don't want to risk us getting sick. This is very informative and straight to the point. Very great job!

Great video! But side topic. I wish the mannequin heads actually had afro textured hair. Learning/practicing hair styling on type 1 A hair then styling a human with 4b hair does not help stylists be gentle with/manage natural hair.
SingingBeeize the problem with that is that black people are not shaving off their hair for the sake of placing them on wefts, wigs, or mannequins. Mannequins also won't teach proper tension... I hate to say it but the only way to learn natural hair is to experience it.
SingingBeeize Hi I just wanted to let you know that you can purchase a mannequin with afro texture hair. I got mine from the beauty supply store. you ma have to ask them for it.

So, say you want to straighten your hair. I get that you would use some sort of heat protectant before blow drying. But do you add heat protectant again *after* blow drying (before straightening)? In that case, for the second heat protectant, which one is best? Because I feel like the hair would just revert to curly again after the hard work. Last time I straightened my hair was years ago and I was afraid so I just braided it to stretch then just flat ironed to avoid the entire blow drying process.
Zu8 I would use a serum after blowdrying and before flat ironing but you should only need a light amount when applying the second layer. There's nothing wrong with stretching your hair the night before flat ironing. You could use a liquid or foam heat protectant to stretch then after it's dry and elongated if you feel it's stretched enough just go straight into flat ironing. The less heat needed the better.

UniversoulQueen _ no if the hair is smooth and extended enough then no. But I should mention that the results of your flat ironing is mostly dependent on how smooth you get the hair prior to using the flat iron. Most people achieve this with a blowout but depending on your hair and texture you may be able to skip the blowdrying altogether. The flat iron is only there to smooth the cuticles straight and add the shine which is why you should only need one pass.

Mrscocoslim yes you can! The conditioner would be a good choice to prep your hair prior to styling to help with smoothness and manageability

Scorpi Ann not unless you plan on rinsing your hair after blow drying lol they all function the same but just might give a lighter or thinner consistency to the product
My stylist added a spray heat protectant on my hair when it was soaking wet before blow drying it. Is that normal?
Tam typically instructions will direct you to use on wet or damp hair to help the product distribute better. I forgot to mention that many spray heat protectant can also be use to mist into the hair right before flat ironing a section to help get better results on resistant hair as well.

Old chicken grease doesn't protect your hair when straightening it.
What is the purpose of background music during reviews? It’s a horrible distraction and it interferes with the quality of your voice. If you turn-off the music maybe you voice wouldn’t echo I tried to turn up the volume to hear you but that horrible music gets louder as well.
The music is not even that loud. And my voice is echoing because of my bathroom acoustics. Sorry this video was unsatisfactory to you. Feel free to watch someone else that do their video differently. I hope you find what you are looking for on here. Thank you for watching!
