@mom gnom, yes. You,re right. I am familiar with this story in a Korean zoo. He is not in circus, never been mistreated. His Mother kicked him out when he was born. Trainers raised him. They treated him like their own babies, so this baby elephant started copying human sound to be able to express his feeling, “good” in Korean, which was his first word.
Heard about this on the news and just had to check it out.Scientists say he is not mimicing as a parrot would, he has actually learned to speak because he only had contact with humans. This video needs subtitles for us non Korean speaking people :-)
Is this JUST the elephant talking, or is there a human there too? Because I can't tell. If the elephant was speaking english, I'd probably be able to tell the human from the "elephant accent", but I can't with Korean.
he does have a friend, now, and yes, he has a yard. sometimes animals cannot be placed with others of their own species. theyre aggressive, too old/young, a suitable mate isnt available etc. dont assume theyre mistreating him because you see one video of him in his house alone.

Once again, I wonder how much of this could be the result of abuse. Such as was the case with the painting elephant that people were fawning over several years back. I'll have to look further into it. We all know elephants are very bright, but that's not my point.
thats just where they filmed it. dont get your panties in a bunch. you can't hear it clearly outside in it's expansive elephant friendly habitat. please wait until people have been demonstratively proven to be animal abusers before you stand on your pedestal.
Why is this elephant in a dark cage and not outside? does it have access to an garden of some sort? Why does it not have a mate? Elephants are one of the most sociable species in the world and it's unacceptable that they are kept alone. It you do not have the space to house 2 you should not have any. Please look into the animal welfare issues around this elephant.
It's quite a stretch to assume that Kosik spent his entire life in a small box, based on a three minute video of him indoors. It is also worth noting that FEMALE elephants are sociable, not MALE elephants like Kosik, who usually live solitary lives once they reach adulthood.
Why don’t discord mods have female mates?? Aren’t fat discord mods social animals too?? Why r they trapped in their mom’s basement for so long and their mom does not let them leave until they get a job? Why their mom not let them mate with some e girls possibly from east Asia? We should liberate discord mods and send them to their natural habitat where they can touch grass.

They should see if they can get him to teach other elephants how to talk.
