It's all insanely expensive. My father has dementia and is receiving 24 hour home care. John Hancock LTC insurance covers about 40% (and only for three years). Thankfully the man has investments that can be converted to cash. Most people don't.

This is my profession. I have been working as a LPN for 10 years and I take care of many seniors and children as well. Unfortunately here in my country we are little asked, I would love to work there with you.

i have to completely disagree with what this person is saying about care homes in comparison to assisted living facilities . I have been in this field for over 20 years and having worked in both places it is the opposite of what this video is describing . When an elderly person is in a smaller closer environment they tend to develop closer and more secure attachments in comparison to being in a larger environment . As a person ages and declines they become more overwhelmed when put in such a large place with so many choices . A large percentage , about 80 % have moved from assisted living to private care homes due to the lack of one on one care . These assisted living facilities promise families lots of activities , but what most do not realize is that an elderly person needs more care, and yes activities as well . Do your own research and talk to people who have been involved in this field for many years trust me it will end up saving you and your loved ones lots of time and money . Best wishes

It’s unfortunate that so many choose to drag out the end of life process, while providing no real solutions for the average person.

I live in Miami and it is totally different the way Assisted Living is run. To start as soon as an elderly is admitted into the Assisted Living the psychologist prescribed medication to sedate the elderly that has been used to be in a private home. Just because the family member needs to have the parents have this extra assistance. Also the DayCare are inside the Assisted Living. Some elderly become bed bonded because of the sedated medication and are allowed to stay in the assisted Living instead of sending the elderly to a nursing home as you said in the video should be done.
The amount of money that is paid at the ALF in Miami is to seclude the elderly from society . This is not fair to the family member who do not want to see the elderly sedated and secluded from society. Please help the elderly society from being sedated to be able to seclude the elderly from society, community, the world in general. Thank you

Oh my god that's terrible. that down right horrifying. thank you for this information, I promise I'll put it to good use. im a marketer getting into elderly and home care. i'm still researching the industry, but i can promise you that i will never do work for a place that treats people like that. if i ever come across one ill do as much as i can to expose them to the public.

Bertha, oh my goodness Im witnessing this myself, people who don't see it don't realise it. My mom needed a little help with rehab that was part nursing home and they drugged her! The even worse part, half of the reason she was in there was meds causing hallucinations, she was suppost to been finishing a taper of 2 meds, when I pulled her out she was on more drugs then when admitted, & she was only there 20days, my heart is broke, I am going to find a way to help my community (what little I can) after she is recovered. I have 3 bedroom, 2 in the basement i could stay in, oh gosh Im just so broken and disgusted. Thank you for speaking out, people need to be aware of this, my heart just bleeds thinking about the residents there so helpless and could be living a way better life

If a person has a nice clean home, and has a nice personality, then home care works fine for the senior. If a senior has a cluttered dirty home and refuses to clean it, a caregiver isn't going to work there. The senior would have to got to assisted living for care.

@@4cClubT oh I agree. Are you offering to come clean it or pay to have it cleaned? I can only be in her house for a short time before I start wheezing & I can't afford to have it cleaned & she doesn't want to clean it or pay to have it cleaned so my only option is to sell it as is & take a huge financial loss on it because she was too lazy & cheap to do it herself when she was able to.

Assisted is basically a retirement home, but unfortunately many kids move their parents into assisted living but they are in need of a skilled/nursing home facility.
