If the truth be known...the late 70's to mid to late 80's little Toyota Trucks are the most reliable best vehicles ever made in the history of internal combustion gasoline powered transportation. Bold statement...but its probably true.
We still have our Toyota Hilux 1984 and use it on the farm. Its bashed up, it speedo is broken and the steering is sketchy but it can still handle offroad routes like its nothing.
I just bought an 85 Toyota Pickup 22R’ Deluxe 4X 2 with only 90K and absolutely love it! Personally I enjoy driving it more than my 2010 BMW 328i M- Sport! Really! Yay!!!! 205-65-14’s are a must. Looks better to me
This 1986 cab is whay my Shasta RV was built on. It can certainly haul a ton. I get nothing but compliments for my rig, even the techs at the Toyota dealerships love it. Enjoyed the video thanks.
I love those mini trucks, I just bought an 87 with an auto and power steering, I like how every single option you can jus add them, they truly are lego trucks, if they’re missing something you can just add it from another trim level
I had a 2 ton 1985 4 banger Toyota. That truck felt indestructible. And easy af to work on. A lot of room under the hood, and just simple in it's operation. I'd get landscapers in SoCal asking if it was for sale all the time!
My grandpa is passing me his since he doesn't use it anymore. It's a similar white to this but with worn paint and a bed cover. I'm super stoked to get it and put some work on it so it'll last forever. It has under 100k original miles somehow. However, it's 2WD 4 speed with a bench seat and no power steering. Anyways, cool video man! That one is beautiful.
Hey bro, nice video.. Like you mentioned in the last few seconds.. That truck is now a classic.. You have a nice interior, nice paint and can easily put some new wheels on and then detail that dirty engine bay.. Type in Chris fix how to clean the engine and watch his video.. Get it looking good and don't talk to me about letting it get dinged up.. lolIt's a classic and now needs to be treated like one.. Enjoy but clean it up and don't mess it up!.. Peace..
Awesome video man, was nice to see a youngster appreciate the old school. I'm hoping my son will appreciate my little toyota pickup when he gets older.
I bought an 88' not long ago. I have put on 5000 miles so far (in the few months I have owned it). It is definitely a beater, but it only needs some good tires and some exhaust work at this point. After that, I think it will last for many years with minimal maintenance.
They are just amazing absolutely. So fun to drive It’s just so beautiful I love it. I just got a 1991 Toyota pick up. So fun to drive too. I used to own a 1988 Toyota pick up little extended cab with long bed but I sold it because it couldn’t passed emissions in SLC Utah. I miss it was my favorite but was carbureted was running so rich that’s why It didn’t passed emissions test.
I had one of these, it was my first vehicle. I live in the rust belt and the thing had rusted so bad that we had to put a wooden bed on it. The radio was also an option, you could actually get one of these without a radio.
Got the same truck but with a 5 speed. That fifth gear is great, I commute on the interstate and i get that puppy going 75 daily (only takes 60 seconds to get up to speed ha)
FM Radio was actually an option in '86 as well. My dad's '86 was Japan spec with the twin swing-out tailgate handles and it still had bias-ply tires from the factory. FM was the only option his truck was spec'd with on the window sticker. The thing didn't even have a rear bumper from the factory.
I have a 1985 toy with the short bed. He has some hard miles on him, but he is still going strong. Great little truck. I bought him when he had 18 miles on him. He has a 182.000 now.
I have an 86 Xtra Cab 2x4 with a turbo, kinda rare. I really wanted a 4x4 but got a great deal from my brother. I still want to make it look like the 4x4 model
I had one of these trucks and my god they are tough. It fell down and mountain literally because the parking was not 100%. Then a Icey road flew into a ditch, felt like I was In the x games half piping the Toyota all the way to a department store were I landed all tires were flat, but just repaired it and was golden. Even ran it out of oil.....I was a wreck when I was younger but the Toyota was there for me.
I bought a 1985 Toy 1ton brand new in 85 then bought a 1989 1 ton. The 85 was blue and the 89 was “desert tan”. The 85 was a 22re 4cyl. And the 89 was a 6 cyl. Both had manuals
the Toy One Ton is a classic....the hardest working truck ever.....my '86 One Ton has 542,000 miles and is running cooler than ever since I bought it used in 1998 for $3200!
That triangular window is a cozy wing, or vent window. I just bought an '88 TOYOTA 1 ton duel wheel box truck 22R-E 4cyl. $1,700 it has 154k on the truck 110k on the engine.
I got a 1988 4x4 std carburetor and i am Restoring it and what you said it ture everyone tell me the same thing and sometime I have it I the side people ask if I going sell it and I say no 😉
I have a 85 with a/c I want to Sale but it's hard to get rid of because it's such a nice truck, its loaded Cruise tilt extended cab sunroof power antna long bed..SR5 seats..
cool pickup man !i got 1 my self but its a bit old but i wanna fix it but cant find genuine parts can u recommend me a web site to find parts old or new tnx
Ive got an 86 Hilux that runs great but is loaded with rust. I'm the 2nd owner have had it since "88. Would you be interested in removing the rust and giving it a paint job?
Not all of those trucks could haul one time. The one ton trucks had a heavier-duty suspension and most of them were also dually trucks. I have that same truck and it is only a half ton truck.
I'm 14, and there's just something about old Toyotas I love.
If the truth be known...the late 70's to mid to late 80's little Toyota Trucks are the most reliable best vehicles ever made in the history of internal combustion gasoline powered transportation. Bold statement...but its probably true.
Jeremiah Wilson nissan hardbody.
Absolutely agree
We still have our Toyota Hilux 1984 and use it on the farm. Its bashed up, it speedo is broken and the steering is sketchy but it can still handle offroad routes like its nothing.
Enjoyed the video, I just got a 88 half ton for 1500$, I really feel lucky.

Nice project truck, and awesome that you worked on it with your dad. I'm sure he's very proud of you.
I went into Wal-Mart last night and when I came out there was one like mine parked next to me. It was cool.

Ive got an 86 Hilux that runs great but is loaded with rust. I'm the 2nd owner have had it since "88. Would you be interested in removing the rust and giving it a paint job?
I’m trying to get one soon but hard to find in Massachusetts..
Sounds like it may need a timing chain⛓️ if you replace it change the gears and get a dual chain it's more durable
I’m in Texas and the ones I’ve seen are not running and rusted out for 4K
Those small windows are called vent windows
Not all of those trucks could haul one time. The one ton trucks had a heavier-duty suspension and most of them were also dually trucks. I have that same truck and it is only a half ton truck.
They always do
Could I know what website you used to buy parts ?
