How to Book More Clients for Video?

- Landing new gigs and clients for video was a major struggle for me when first starting out. So I wanted to create this video to help others who might be in a similar situation as I was. This 4 step strategy has worked well for me. Hopefully it will for you too. This video is part of my #MakingTheJump series where I show my creative journey.

Great work from both of you guys. Much love from Maine!
This is what I call a "getting clients" video, thanks for the candid help Ed.
Thanks so much for watching! Few things have changed and will be coming out with a V2 video soon
Great tips! Really helpful and valuable. Thank you Edward.
Thank you so much man! Really helps starting out.
Glad you found it helpful!
I’ve watched over 10 videos on booking clients but this is top 3, I can’t believe it only has 7K views. Just know I appreciate this so much, gonna subscribe and follow your IG
Shoot man thanks so much for watching. Follow me on IG @edwardleefilms ! I post a lot of business/creating related things there too

Wow, this video deserves way more views, lots of great advice! Thanks Edward!
Nice vid dude, I can confirm that this is how I did it, free work really is the key. Keep up the content man 👌🏻
Thanks Alex, spec work is amazing! Just have to trust the process
Great video! I also love the full time filmmaker course!
Dope videoo Ed! I would love to see a video on what you do the day before or the day of to prepare for a client shoot. e.g. Planning, Notes, etc.
or we can meet up in person and I can actually tell/show you brotha LOL.
Great job! Film Flash Academy have a great theory around getting paid giggs.
love the tips brotha. dropping knowledge
Hey Edward from one videographer to another this was some great content. I knew some of it but you did touch on some points I was missing on with reaching out to perspective clients. Thank you for the info truly appreciated. Also in process of trying to leave job to pursue full time so going to be watching your other video as well.
Glad to hear that you got some value from it even though you are already creating! Hope everything works out well for you!
@@edwardleefilms Yeah even though am already creating never stop learning which is what takes us to even higher levels in our craft. Your video about quitting job at Rhino was a good one too. I like how your boss was cool with it and supported your next move not many people would do that.
This is a great “getting clients” video, will definitely try this. Thanks!
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks man! Good video! love this channel
Thanks so much!
Edward you killed it! Love the advice! A highlight reel livestream would be super helpful!
Thanks Andrew! I think ill be doing one of those livestreams soon. Will most likely announce time and date on my Instagram
Lovin’ the content! Keep killin it, Edward! 👍
Thanks for watching!
Edward thank you so much for this video. This makes things so much more clear and simple. This will be a good reference when I get my first client in the future. Thanks again boiii
always man. looking forward to it!
Love the content man! Keep spreading those good and helpful advices!
Really nice landing clients video, i was expecting one of this boring “do you best” but you give valuable information bro. Keep it up
Thanks for the love man. Coming out with an updated version soon
Great video man! So many useful tips for people wanting to grow their businesses
Great video and interesting points regarding reaching out to clients 😊 thanks for sharing! 🙏💯
Thanks for watching! I just wanted to share what worked for me!
Great info, great video👏👏👏 now you have a new subscriber👍
Great video, man!
Fire video still in 2020 bro! I recently quit my aerospace engineering job and made the leap to video full time! Excited to dive in.
Nick Di Giugno thanks for watching man! glad you found the video helpful 🙌🏼 you can do it!
@@edwardleefilms Absolutely, keep up the quality content and thank you brother!
Bro, thanks so much for this video. Being only 14, it’s REALLY hard to book clients and I mostly stick to sports hype videos. And as it is working pretty well for me, I much rather film promo and music videos.
Thats awesome! You got a head start compared to most. Keep pushing and enjoy the process each step of the way.
This is super helpful! Thank you!
Thank you bro 🙏🏻
I’m going to start my RUclips channel and this helps me a lot
Thank you again I appreciate the work
No problem. Im glad it was helpful!
Edward you’re a legend
Thanks Wen! Hope Asia is treating you well bro! Looks like a blast.
Nice video Edward! Pretty much agreed on every point except the "fake it till you make it", It's maybe a short-term win, but on the long term, you'll pay for it and I've lost some clients for that. Honesty is a huge strength and you'll earn much more respect from your clients if you're humble rather than disappointing your clients because you sold them Hollywood and you don't know what you're talking about. Much love, keep crushing those edits!
Hey there! I really appreciate the constructive criticism on this comment. I definitely can see where you're coming from. I guess I didn't want to encourage people to lie about their skillset but rather to not shy away from clients just because they are bigger than normal. If they reached out, it's most likely because they saw something they liked to begin with. But I agree that we as creators should not be over promising on content or deliverables. Thanks for the support and comment!
@@edwardleefilms totally agree, not shy away from clients!
Hey man 👋🏼 I like your style of Video! Please make more 😊🤙🏽
Thanks Johannes!
Useful information! Thanks!
Hi, cool video.
I already have a portfolio and a lot of experience, but the problem is with the sales department
I used to do spam mailing to production studios.
Spam only works if you send emails via video production
Sorry for english, it's google translate
And I am from Russia
Great video man! Question. On the subject of providing past successful ROI from past customers. How would you go about getting that or measuring that info? Thanks in advance!
Nice one man!
Thank you!
Thanks for your practical and actionable advice. One thing though, doesn't doing free work puts the client in a wrong mindset, where their baseline price is now set to 0? (so they will either ask for a discount or be outright hesitant to pay for additional work?)
Just found this gem 💎 today
Thanks for watching!
Underated
Good tips brotha 🔥
thanks broskyy
Amazing productive video!! Thank you, Edward. You and Daniel Schiffer have in my opinion the two most valuable videos about getting clients. This right now is my favorite! I just have one question and I'd like you can help me. I'm so sorry about my english, but what do you mean when you say: ...no strings attached and "YOU CAN HAVE DELIVERED CONTENT"...? Thanks again :)
If someone can help me with this I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks for this video! So, if you offer a spec video for free, do you pay for the stock music? Or get the client to agree to pay for that piece of music?
This is a great question. I use a platform called MusicBed. Its a website for royalty free music and I have the business plan. So if the client wants to use the music I end up creating a license for them if they agree to work together further. So yes, I do get the music for them
@@edwardleefilms Got it, thanks!
Thanks for the informative video !
respect bro
Thanks dude 👊🏼
This is really nice
Thanks man for the information
How do you do Spec work if I don't have a family member or friend who works at a restaurant or similar industry , so to speak? Thanks.
Great question! To be honest, you don't really need permission to do spec work. I would buy a product (between $50-100) that you like or already have and shoot an "ad" for that product. Then use that video to leverage and try to book that same brand or similar brands.
Awesome Video 👍
Can you make a video of how to look for video producers? I'm looking for one
Very helpful!
with spec work, can we as videographers use the brands name/product/logo on our portfolio?
I'm just thinking about copyrights of the actual brand, I haven't heard anyone talk about this...
Thanks for the video Edward ! Your content is awesome :D
I would honestly just say yes. Just use the logo and brands name. HOWEVER, I would put a note or a disclaimer in small text on the bottom letting people know that you were not paid by the brand and that it is a spec ad with the intent to build portfolio. Or you could always send the video to the brand and if they're stoked about it, pretty safe to say you can use it on your portfolio. Only time you would run into problems is if the content sucks and you're trying to treat it like the brand paid you for that video. Have to be smart and transparent, always! Hope this helps.
keep it up bro
hey edward, thanks for making this video!
what's your advice on having that conversation with a company that you have already set a packaging price with but know that your work is worth more than what you originally signed with?
This is a great question! If you feel like you are being underpaid and you have other clients on the table, I would say try and have a conversation with the company. Let them know that for 2019 you will be raising your prices due to a little more demand. Its completely normal in this freelance business to up your prices little by little each year.
Great video, Edward! Before you quit your job, we’re you primarily doing work on the weekends? If so, what type of jobs were these? I’m trying to avoid weddings if I can lol
Awesome question Morgan! I was primarily doing work on the weekends and after work. If you work a full time job, it can be hard to build a side business but one question you have to ask yourself is "am I getting requests outside of work on a consistent basis?" Too many creatives will just "take a leap of faith" but thats not the way to do it. If you feel like your day job is constantly getting in the way of more money, its a good time to consider quitting.
@@edwardleefilms thanks a lot for this long reply, Just discovered your channel..awesome content :)
Good information!
Hi Edward! Nice video and great channel! Tried to find that song in the begging for about 4 months. Any help? :)
cool video! can u tell me some sample package prices pls? i don't know how to start
It really depends on your skill level, but I would say never do a full video project for less than $500
@@edwardleefilms thanks so much! i thought 250 € is too much lol
