Down to the women you form relationships with. Richard Pryor bringing up was the reason he dated European women and trusted European men not realizing they were the reason for the disadvantages of his childhood. I believe His oversexualized childhood was also the reason he was bisexual and allowed his son to be molested by Paul Mooney. The dysfunction runs so deep it became normalized.
Well when you come from a group of people that were slaves in America that were never made whole with the 40 acres and a mule that we were promised to our ancestors so we could have possibly built some wealth and laws that would help protect black people at that time. Maybe they didn't have other ways of making money. What do you do? It wasn't too much a black woman could do back then. I'm not excusing it but it's the oldest profession in the world.
Richard Pryor was the most vulnerable celebrity I ever experienced in my lifetime. He never came off as anything but 100% genuine. Even when he would try to evade answers they would just tumble out of him. That is the very quality that made him a master onstage. Such a real human being he was. ✊🏾
Richard was a troubled, burden and traumatized man! It was a miracle he survived that long. No child or human being should ever have to go through what he had been through. May God continue to bless and rest his soul. Your childhood upbringing oftentimes determines your future. Peace, love and prosperity to all..
I can't imagine the trauma this man went through but I'm glad he found a way to release it and be successful at the same time. Richard Pryor will always be the GOAT
This poor man had such a sad childhood. My heart always broke for him. Under all the outward stuff, the foul mouth, etc. I believe he was a good man who had a love for God. I surely hope and pray he’s in a better place now
You can tell behind those jokes there are pains of his childhood. You can see he is struggling about his past whenever he speaks. Sad. No child should be raised this way. Luckily he used comedy for his way out of the hood.
True but we do...we do...we usually hurt ourselves rather than others as white folks do just the opposite AND demand AND receive an apology for their behavior!
Wow I miss Richard & I will never forget his ways of making me laugh & yet he also made me cry for him too. He sure had that special magic that made everyone love him & they way he looked thru his life with a comedic flair. I'm 66 yrs young now. I remember listening to him on vinyl records & later ok HBO live on sunset strip. Ur beautiful heart lives on in me forever Richard Pryor.❤
Ieder huis heeft een kruis ,zeiden ze vroeger .maar er zijn mensen die zoveel kruisen te verwerken krijgen, zodat weglachen het beste is om te overleven. Later op leeftijd ga je daar last mee krijgen RIP.
4:26 as a Peoria resident for 15 years, working for DoorDash, working for a business where I travel around a lot, I agree with this statement…ish. The areas around downtown are in pretty rough shape. Downtown itself is a great area, which doesn’t make sense…but I digress. There’s a main road that runs west to east called US-150 , or War Memorial Dr. Us Peorians just call it War. Everything north of that road is a pretty amazing place to be. The best example would be east, approaching the river. Over by north south running prospect. The northern most part of prospect is a block away from Grand View Dr. Revered by teddy Roosevelt himself for its beauty. Now the north part of prospect is the main road of Peoria Heights, it’s almost like a second downtown. Everything there is simply bursting with energy. Many small businesses and good food. As you drive south, the beauty stops at war and prospect where the worst McDonald’s in the area is. As you pass War, you’ve entered some of the most crime riddled parts of the city
Richard was and still is one if the Best comedians ever to do Comedy,he was "Raw,Uncensored, and So Funny,I believe his childhood was hard and confusing for him as a little boy,he used memories to make you laugh,.May he rest in peace...
I remember his last interview..."A child said he loved your stand-up and wanted to be just like you. Do you want anyone to be just like you?" Richard said an honest answer. "HELLLLL NO!"
All joking when we lost Richard the king Pryor we lost a legend but we will always have him in our hearts as the shinning star that he was is and always be.
There's a sharp pain I see in his eyes after each "Joke" that is indeed a scar and deep revelation. But each time people just laughed. which was his desired outcome.but he was hoping someone really loved and understood him. After every joke the realization in his eyes that the his confessions of pain is intricately woven as only humor to everyone in the world is really piercing and heartbreaking stuff that's inexplicable really in feeling. but that was a very strong kid. His childhood shaped everything. His imaginations came true. He's sexuality, perception, relationships, habits and everything in-between was shaped from his exposure and experience as an infant. That Kid is a Genius of a Survivor. GahhhttttDammit Richard. Btw My Name is also Richard. Cliche 🤷🏽♂️
Yes!! 😄 The family who owned the mansion at that time, where some of the film took placed ,were family friends well more like friendly associates of my grandparents /maternal great-aunts/uncles. The mansion is less than a mile from my house. 😉
I have an album releasing in March, entitled “The Franklin Lennox Thomas Show” I say that now, because I am proudly, introducing the new wave of “Rich” fans to one fan’s influence and downright idolatry of the way in which Richard Pryor expressed his pain, love and life through ART. Why just comment on this now? Well, because, respectfully, I don’t wanna be labelled as someone who “just found him.” There’s not a THING wrong with someone who did, but as aforementioned...I didn’t. He’s inspired atleast a portion of EVERY YEAR of my life, since, say 2011, which was over five years after he passed, however it was when I found “Rich” and who “Rich” was. I’ve been thankful for his influence (as aforementioned) atleast once, every year since....I like to think that I appreciate the path he single-handedly trail-blazed as much as anybody, ever. It inspired us all in unmeasurable ways. Ok, I’m done here now. Stevey Owens -The Franklin Lennox Thomas Show....coming to you on all music platforms in March 2020 Have a great night, jack
If hell had a zip code it would be in Peoria. Wow how could I go all these years without knowing about Richard Pryor's background. He turned that into comedy

Barbara Walters always gets corrected when doing interviews. It's like she never does her homework .I never understood why she was considered so great.
Adults don't realize that what happens in your childhood can effect every aspect of your life as you get older.
Best comment on here. Good point sweetheart

I know thats right! Richard ....I miss YOU!!!
He was the father of a generation of comics in the '80s
@Sabisch TruePain What does Disco Music have to do with Richard Pryor?????
When he was talking about Charlie Eggy he sounded so innocent and vulnerable. You could clearly see the child without a childhood.
His eyes definitely tell what's in his soul. You can see the pain.
Richard was a troubled, burden and traumatized man! It was a miracle he survived that long. No child or human being should ever have to go through what he had been through. May God continue to bless and rest his soul. Your childhood upbringing oftentimes determines your future. Peace, love and prosperity to all..
“The reality of who I am, has nothing to do with what they say”
Deep..self awareness at it's best....
I can't imagine the trauma this man went through but I'm glad he found a way to release it and be successful at the same time. Richard Pryor will always be the GOAT
Poor Richard😢 So much of his internal pain came from his early years. Rip Richard🙏🏾
The most naturally talented funny stand up comic ever.
Dis boy was absolutely awesome. So missed. Thanks for doing this story.
JD Dudley He was a MAN
Man sir not boy
Richard was the best of all time. I still love this guy…
Me too
This poor man had such a sad childhood. My heart always broke for him. Under all the outward stuff, the foul mouth, etc. I believe he was a good man who had a love for God. I surely hope and pray he’s in a better place now
It would have been nice to see more comedians doing the commentary like Eddie, Cedric, Martin, Steve, DL, Chris Rock...
You can tell behind those jokes there are pains of his childhood. You can see he is struggling about his past whenever he speaks. Sad. No child should be raised this way. Luckily he used comedy for his way out of the hood.
I've heard an old saying that comedians are sad people and what makes them so funny is turning there pain into humor
Sad childhood but he was a Genius. GOAT
He was a genius because he chose funny and not to be a serial killer.
D.E. W. Black people don’t do serial killing as much as some. Not our make up.
True but we do...we do...we usually hurt ourselves rather than others as white folks do just the opposite AND demand AND receive an apology for their behavior!
D.E. W. You are right bad behavior from the beginning. We hurt ourselves usually not others.
The Greatest COMEDIAN of all time

Barbara Walters always gets corrected when doing interviews. It's like she never does her homework .I never understood why she was considered so great.
Peoria is still a rough town, can’t imagine that upbringing though.
And he played with that "magic dust" for years....😜
Are used to listen to my mom and dad’s record collection and that was Richard Pryor records I had to wait till they leave or go to work LAMO.
Most comics whether school yard or stage suffer from depression and had abusive childhoods .

Barbara Walters really liked him. There's a rumor they slept together, but she's always denied it.
