What's my story? An engineer, in love with his job, started teaching on the side. Got lucky. Impacted 1000s of lives. Had to finally leave his job to increase the impact surface area. Raised $5M funding to fix education. Is learning day and day about startups and building a valuable product.
How is it going? A decade of engineering helps in systems thinking and product building. Learning about Strategy, Marketing, People Management, and Finance on the go.
What am I building? Today, 25 million Indians prepare for government job entrance exams. They do it for years together. The probability of success is less than 1% but they still do it. Why? For the lack of a structured alternative to launch their white-collar career. I am building Invact to bridge this gap.
How? Follow me to know, it's a long story. I am telling it in parts every day.

My girlfriend was on a 3lpa salary in Bangalore. With that she not only paid her pg bills but also mine too as I was learning web dev staying in a PG. When I had free time, we occassionally went to eat out as well. Despite all this, she also was able to save up some amount for our engagement expenses as well.
Also one of my friends started his career as a software developer at 6k per month in Bangalore. Now he earns close to 20lpa.
So as Tanay always advises us - Don't focus too much on the initial salary, try to get into a place where you find yourself learning a lot .

Disagree with a lot of points.
    1. Insurance - Even if company pays for it, it is imperative that one gets both term and life insurance personally. Reason being that your job tenure will always be uncertain. Please never be dependant on your company for emergencies.
    2. Rent - Your analysis only covers Whitefield. At other parts of Bangalore even in PGs rents are exorbitantly higher and there are frequent electric cuts, water supply issues, etc. Taking an apartment in a decent society is the only solution but rents have skyrocketed. Two years ago, I got a 2BHK at a decent society for 20K/month but now I am not getting anything under 40K.
    3. Transport - Again, metro is only present in Whitefield. Not in Koramangala, HSR, Begur. Bus connectivity is not present everywhere and without Uber/private transport you are helpless.
If you are not getting anything other than 3-5LPA offers, kindly up-skill yourself while working and try to get >11LPA offers in a span of 1-2 years. 3-5LPA is not enough to live in Bangalore comfortably. Yes, you will be able to survive but not live comfortably. I hate RUclipsrs that palaver and sell a pipe dream.

Fyki and that too being a Bengali like you I used to live comfortably in Bangalore within 20k that too with savings. Gated societies are for rich ppl and not for common ppl. When you talk abt cost of living talk in common man's perspective and they can afford in non gated societies. But fyki Bangalore houses are top class with modern amenities whether gated or non gated societies. Atleast far better than Chennai and Kolkata. Bus connectivity is best in Bangalore as compared to any other cities. In other cities including Kolkata I hardly travel in those pathetic buses but here in Bangalore bused are quite comfortable and feels like luxury. And Google it bmtc buses has maximum number of fleets. So if you apply your brain you can definitely stay comfortably in 3 to 5 lakh p a package in Bengaluru for two ppl. Currently I am staying with 8 lakh package that too with 60% saving of my salary. Of course I am bachelor but if married with my wife too I can save some 35% of my take home salary. So stop overhyped everything.

    • @MrPANNAJI
      @MrPANNAJI 4 дня назад

So 3 to 5 lakh is a decent amount to live as couple without kids in Bengaluru if not luxurious. GATED SOCIETY is LUXURY NOT NECESSARY. MIND IT.

I personally beleive you should get family insurance separately once you get married and have your first child . Prior to that as long as you have job , there is risk but still much less risk. If you don't have job you cannot afford insurance in any case but within job you need not worry. Also in case you are shifting job or about to lose job (put on performance improvement, too much time on bench etc) getting a quick 2 to 3 lakhs health insurance plus a term insurance is just a click away . So you can immediately opt for it .

Health insurance ke liye bahut si cheeje dekhni padegi. HI me 0% co-pay hona chahiye aur pura paisa insurance company ko pay larna pade. Cashless process available ho that is better than reimbursement. Jiska HI le rho vo tumhare city ke hospital me cashless insurance provide krta hai ki nhi us HI ke hospitals ka kitna network hai. Room rent ki HI me limit na ho to better hai. Pre and post hospitalization kitna milega. I would recommend to watch the video of LLA first and then take your time and choose wisely.

    This is quite true!
I was in banglore with 4 LPA in bangalore from December to February!
I was living in PG in bommanhalli, ITI layout! My rent was 4.5k of PG I was getting 3 times food breakfast, lunch and dinner. However you will not get tasty and delicious food. But you can survive. But you can try from different options like tanay mentioned:- udupi upahar, other chains too.but my favourite is asha's tiffin in HSR layout! In night you can also go to kormangala Or HSR for street food!
Regarding my office It was only 1km so I used to walk from PG to office!
    My total expense was:-
    Rent:- 4.5k with 4 sharing
    Food if any extra:- 1.2k
Travel sometimes to colleagues flat or other destination:-1000
    Other expenses:-4k including ( cinema, shopping, clothes,etc.)
You can try from zudio in HSR it's best and affordable
    Insurance:-1500
I was able to save around 12k in banglore while living a happy and prosperous life over there!
In initial phase of your career start living below your means. I could've spent more but I didn't I could've shifted to 2 sharing room but the question is why I should shift when I don't have any need for it as of now!
You can live a happy life with this amount if you're satisfied with what you do otherwise 58 LPA also will not help you recent example of a Amazon techie!
If anyone looking for PG in ITI layout or bommanhalli then checkout sri thirumala PG it's best 👍!

I know a friend of mine living in mahadevpura, his rent + food in PG is Rs 15,000. But room is excessively small.
What I can say in places like Kormangala, HSR, Indiranagar, Mahadevpura you need atleast 70-80k spending and have more than this. But if you are in electronic city, Whitefield, bennergatta you can live comfortably in 30k.
So where you live in Bangalore decides how much you require.

Unpopular opinion: Better to stay close to office with an extra price within 1.5 km range when you can walk back n forth, rather than staying at a cheaper place far away.
Because the travel from rapido n all can be varying daily but the stay cost remains constant overall. Thus giving you more control on the budget.

Based on my experience in Bangalore one month back. Took a PG single room for 20k (in bellandur) where rates are like that in general, lot of places were charging more than that as well. Even for getting bus some walking is required. To the bus stop n then after reaching office area. Even if you live like 3 km away from office if you travel by bus it will take at least 45 mins with Bangalore traffic. Also, the PGs are extremely depressing. I found myself questioning why I am even doing this job when my living conditions are so poor. The food is PGs is so sub standard that I was not able to eat even a single meal there. For lunch, they will just give u rice n rasam n call it a day which is extremely difficult for a north Indian person to get used to. Water quality in Bangalore is terrible as well. I did not like Bangalore at all. Moved back to pune. N lol I can afford a 2bhk here with the same 20k. I would personally anyday choose to be in a city like Pune than Bangalore!

Let me tell you the actual reality. Those who have this kind of thinking that 25k per month salary is nothing, they are actually belong to a family with very good economic condition and they are used to it to spend amount as per their need. It depends on the lifestyle you want. You can't think a lifestyle like Ambani with 25k. I'm also stying in bangalore last 1 year. Let me tell you my Expenditure.
I use to stay 9 km away from my office in an one RK room which is quite enough for a single person and bought one second hand bike at 50k which is doing it's job really well. Now, Coming to the expenditure,
    Room rent - 4000
    Food - 6000 ( Cook myself)
    Petrol - 1000
    That's it.
And I spend 2-3k in total in shopping and other entertainment.

I completely agree that log faltu ka halla karte hai ki banagalore me itne salary me nhi rhe sakte. I started my career from Manyata Tech Park, Bangalore in 2018 with monthly salary Rs. 23k something. I used to stay near to office within walking distance in a PG(rent Rs. 6500 at that time with all facilities e.g. food, internet, washing machine, etc.) and some more expenses related food, shopping, etc. After that also I used to save some money(Rs. 10k+). So, I never really understood 🤷‍♂ why people used to say that with 3LPA+ annual salary, people can't survive in Bangalore. Most of them actually never stayed in Banaglore.

The problem is people look at 1 lakh + monthly salaries, which is not a realistic number in most cases. Only the MNCs or a few tech startups can pay this salary as they earn profits/funding in $. Most of the people are working at much lower salaries which are sufficient to live a happy life. If you earn more than 16 LPA then you belong to the top 1% category and the irony is that most of these people aren't IT people. LOL
I have seen managers working in software companies earning less than 10 LPA.
The working potential is less in the IT industry. You can work at most till the age of 40 or if lucky enough then 45. After that, you will require an MBA degree to get into the management role to prolong your career.
One of my friends was an engineer at Siemens. He worked in Europe. He is one of the first few engineers/people who are responsible for bringing automation to the industry (talking about the 2000s). He was laid off at the age of 40. LOL. Imagine laying off one of your most brilliant software engineers. But yeah, this happens. A 24 years old young programmer can mop the floor with a 40-year-old senior programmer at 1/10th of the salary. People who jump careers in their late 20s or early 30s are just $tupid.

@@TechnicalVigyanrahulky then you need to really skill up, like you need to create your own app like industry standard app for eg Swiggy, Netflix etc., If you have that much of skill then you'll get hired for high paying job. You can't get everything in a short time. First year you can't send money but in the second year you can send, you can gain good experience and change the company or else if your performance is good enough they'll increase your salary. At the end of the day everything depends on you. If you wait for the High paying salary you might waste a lot of time but in the meanwhile you're earning something that might be money or skill. Something is better than nothing.

Let's talk about transportation first, You mentioned a daily travel expense of 10-20 rupees (5:40) to and fro from the office. Are you kidding me? Have you ever tried commuting in Bangalore? Even if you live just 2-3 kilometers away from your workplace, good luck finding an auto or bike ride for anything less than 30 rupees (that's their minimum btw). And don't get me started on the rainy season. When it rains, getting an auto becomes a nightmare. You'll be lucky if you find one in 35-40 minutes, and be prepared to pay exorbitant prices for it.
Oh, but you want to be on time for work, right? Well, in that case, cabs are your only option during the rains. And guess what? They will cost you a whopping 80-100 rupees per ride. So much for your affordable living in Bangalore theory. Not every area is conveniently connected by the metro, and buses seem like a viable option, the reality is quite different. Bus stops are often located far from the actual office locations which makes relying on buses is often a frustrating experience.
Next about food, if you work for a fancy MNC or a big company, you might be lucky enough to have all your meals provided for you. But let me burst your bubble and remind you that not everyone in Bangalore is employed by such companies.
In the startup capital of India, there are numerous small startups operating on just one floor of office space. And guess what? They don't provide anything more than a cup of coffee. So much for your assumption that everyone gets breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks handed to them for free in an office. Not everyone has a luxury of a fully stocked office pantry or a team of chefs catering to their culinary needs.
Misleading video titles can create false expectations and lead to misunderstandings among viewers.
It's important to consider different perspectives and taking into account the diversity of experiences and circumstances and then provide realistic insights.
