      @Luiz Junior No, it will be fine for that. Mine is i7 , 16G Ram, 1TB hard drive, Windows 11. It is a big improvement on the i3 Surface Pro 3 I own and feels nearer to the performance of my Ryzen desktop, in terms of desktop responsiveness, if not outright horsepower. Don't get the high-res screen unless you really need it. Battery life is much better with the 1080p screen. With an Ultra dock it can run 3 external monitors (laptop screen off). WI-FI can be upgraded to WiFi 6, if you want (Intel AX210). It's the oldest, cheapest X1 Carbon that meets the hardware requirements for Windows 11, so it will have a bit of longevity from that point of view.

    I have had an X1 Nano (11th gen Intel i7) for about a month and it's a great home PC. As you say the display and speakers are really good, as is battery life, it's silly light, and so far no issues running W11 Pro and Linux. My 1st Thinkpad now I know why people like them.

    • @NitroDragon

      Not all is perfect with them sadly. I manage about 30 laptops, most being Macbook Pros and have endless gripes with them. But so far it has only been 2 Thinkpads that decided to just outright die for no reason. 1 T480 and a T480S, we also had a ThinkBook hinge break through the top case, this was fixed under warranty. The other 2 were out of warranty. I actually replaced the board in the T480 and kept it for myself as a photography travel laptop.
      However, the warranty with Lenovo is far far better than Apple or others imo. I just got an i5 model of this X1 on sale, with 3 year onsite warranty with international and accidental coverage after tax for less than the base price of a refurbished Macbook pro. So even with their issues I'd still probably go with Lenovo over most other options.

    For everyone wondering. THE GOOD BATTERY LIFE IS BACK!!! I had the 10th gen and I was EXTREMELY disappointed. I had a Gen 6 and I was getting a consistent 6-8 hours and I loved it. When I got the 10th gen I was getting 3.5hrs on casual use. Absolutely HATED it, heard that they put the U series back into the 11th gen and the problem was solved. I'm so happy I get 9-10 hours on my thinkpad now. SO thrilled SOO happy!!! For anyone considering it you'll be pleased. The laptop feels nicer than Gen 10 too. The keyboard is more firm and doesn't feel thin like it was on Gen 10. Had to write a long comment because I'm a die-hard thinkpad fan and they finally fixed all the dumb mistakes they made last year so if you have the money you can confidently buy this laptop knowing that you'll like it. Super super happy

      9 hours is a whole business day. MS Surface Pro had the same battery issue until they switched to the U series CPU for the Surface Pro 9.
      Small laptops should not use Intel H/P/G series CPUs. Just too much power for the small form to handle.

      What screen option did you go with? I want to buy it but with the screen option that would give me the most battery life...

    • @AlTheEngineer
      @AlTheEngineer Год назад +11

      @@PsycosisIncarnated what do you mean they can't complete with M1 M2? The M1 and M2 are ARM RISC processors ... and not x86/AMD64 full fledged CPUs with full instruction sets and backwards compatibility. Don't fall for the gimmicks, comparing the M1/M2 to an actual full-size CPU is like comparing your phone/tablet to your desktop PC. Without special software running on the phone/tablet, you are toast - you can't just pick up "any EXE or binary" and run it on your phone - it has to specifically be written for that processor to account for the reduced instruction set.
      So while Apple wants to market the M1/M2 as "real" computer chips, they are far from it. They're basically iPad/iPhone mobile processors fitted into a laptop form-factor with all of the software re-written to run on the RISC architecture. Apple can do this because they dictate which software you can use through a firm-grip on applications and programs. Can't really do that on Windows or Linux laptops as thousands of developers make software for them. Forcing a RISC CPU architecture on Windows would mean that ALL of your programs will simply NOT run without being "re-written" and "re-compiled" for the reduced instruction set ARM CPUs ... Microsoft tried this with Windows RT and Surface RT back in the day, it was an EPIC FAIL - because apart from the few first-party programs, no one re-wrote their apps to support their ARM processor.
      So yeah, you can't "beat" a RISC CPU with a full-size CPU, its literally apples to oranges. Its like comparing the towing capacity of a real truck v.s. a Honda Civic. Yes, the Civic will sh*t and p*ss all over the truck when it comes to MPG on a highway, but as soon as you tow anything the truck will come up on top every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
      So go ahead, buy the M1/M2, pay "full" laptop price for basically a mobile processor and get restricted to the software they tell you to use or use slow and inefficient emulation to run everything else (which totally defeats the purpose of a RISC CPU based platform).

    I generally love Lenovo ThinkPads but the latest one I purchased last summer is a bit of a lemon. And the customer service has deteriorated. I had to go through several different agents to get the correct Lenovo agent for the problem. Most infuriatingly, I would have to continually repeat the issue over and over. I was just handed off to one agent after another. When I was returned to the same agent --after being on the phone for two hours--I had to give up for the day. I finally got some help and was directed to send the machine to the company for repair.

    I made the mistake of buying this GEN11 model now to replace my previous 3 year old X1 and I am extremely disappointed.
    Why?
    1. The fan is unbearably loud. It just powers up and works all the time like I'm doing graphics processing.
    2. The keyboard gets hot. The left edge gets unbearably hot. You definitely can't bear to support your hand there any longer
    3. The screen flickers. After switching on, the screen flickers for approx. 15 min. I did all the graphics and windows updates but it didn't help
    4. Battery life. The old battery is currently 3 years old and lasts longer than the new one. Seems like a cooling issue.
    Good:
    The new one is faster than the old one, but that was also the reason for the change.

I’ve returned it to Lenovo 4 times. They just reformat and tell me it’s a software problem. My last visit to Lenovo they told me not to upgrade the drivers as that was likely to cause more problems. Insane. No service support. Insufficient cooling. I have actually burned my finger holding down the power button for a hard reset. Gen 4 was flawless. Gen 10 is to be avoided. No support.

    • @PhongNguyen-po2pl
      @PhongNguyen-po2pl 11 месяцев назад

      If you use this on your lap and you plug in the AC 90% of the time, then heat will be a big problem for you because this laptop will run hot when AC is plug in. I had mine and the heat is pretty bad with AC plug in. You can go to bios and change Power to Balance with AC and this does help a lot. By the way, it's a nice laptop and I wish they could put amd ryzen 7 pro 7840u just like they did with T14s.

      @@PhongNguyen-po2pl Thanks for the reply. I bought the laptop with the 1370P and it does run very hot. I work with it in my lap so air flow isn't the greatest. The OLED screen is awesome though. I do wish I would of gone with the U processor. I will try the balanced setting in the bios.

    I've had nothing but problems since I bought this crap, constant crashes to blue screen, freezes on standby, and poor performance. Support has been a complete mess and got the computer in a worse state than how I delivered it. After several attempts of repair (basically changing the hole motherboard twice), it's been returned for the third time now and they couldn't even manage to return the computer with it's charging cable. And this is just half of the story. Lenovo absolutely sucks on so many levels that I will never bye any of their products ever again. Be warned!

    If you are on the CIA taskforce (always think about Confidentiality, Integrity, Accessibility when it comes to CIA. but anyway..) You would not use your laptop in public anyway unless it's purely non-confidential, for personal use. And there would be proper screen protectors. Microphones, cameras and other sensors that may be abused would be disabled in hardware or even cut out physically. Then there are TEMPEST and FIPS certifications and requirements... So laptop's become quite problematic very quickly...
