Yeah, I mean... is the story predictable? Yes. On the other hand, while a Hideo Kojima game can surprise the hell out of me, they don't ever make me cry. This game did that. At two separate points. The power of the acting... voice and mocap.. was that strong, and while the plot wasn't surprising, plot isn't the sum of storytelling. The storytelling was exceptional.

So you think its impossible someone doesnt like the game? I loved RDR but im not feeling this one. I played 20 hours and gave it a fair shot, its a good game and i can see why people like it. But i really dont enjoy it not because of any of the dumb reasons people have complained about but just because i dont, i feel like something is missing. Just not my cup of tea. Now people trying to bash something that has objective quality are just projecting their bias and thats another story.

    • @qwinn4911
      @qwinn4911 5 лет назад +7

Peter Lepelis please don't get me wrong, my dude. It's not a perfect game and your opinion isn't wrong. If you have 10 people in a room who've played it, and there's gunna be 2-3 people who would rather do LITERALLY anything else (including Greg Miller from Kinda Funny). I've been where you are now with many other games like the Witcher 3, Fallout, Bioshock, and Mass Effect . I've been jealous of the people who were able to get sucked into these games. I'm finally there and head over heels, in love with this one and because of that love those complaints seem small and insignificant. Like falling in love at first sight with a beautiful woman and your friend goes "meh, her ears are too big." And I think that's the point of this video and that's why he included legitimate complaints with silly ones. So when I said "representation of what I hear" I was trying to say that where I see imperfections you see flaws. I hope you find your RDR2, brother.

@@qwinn4911 Oh yeah dont get me wrong im agreeing with you. Im saying that its normal not to like the game for w/e reason, but its not normal to try and bash it with inaccurate complaints just because you dont like it. I dont like it but i can objectively see its a polished game with depth. For me personally, i wasnt too much in the mood for a more realistic western game atm, i kinda preferred the clunkiness and siliness of the first one. I just went into it hoping it could maybe catch my attention and intrigue me but i found the story boring, again prolly because i wasnt feeling a western atm. But now if i ever feel the itch for one i know where to look.

I put in about 30 hours into RDR2 and decided I can't force myself to play anymore.
I just find the combat mindless, and I can't get into the story. I really don't care about Arthur's group, or even Arthur himself. Everything that adds to its immersion, like the horse stuff, eating, crafting, just bugs me. Like it takes so much time but doesn't add much to the experience at all. The world, although it looks beautiful, does not make me want to explore. I know exactly what to expect if I decide to go out into the country.

The thing I despise about this game after playing half the story and 100+ hours of free roam...The supposed honor system is a complete joke. I can go up to a guy building his farm who is running out of resources, and after a brief chat I can offer him $100 to help him along, and I get good boy points for doing so...Yet if I go up to the guy owing us $25 who is dying of TB while his wife and children starve and beg for their life, not only am I FORCED to extract the money from him without any option to pay it myself and forgive the debt, but I am FORCED to threaten to murder his son in front of his mother. For this I recieve NO negative consequences on the "honor" meter. In another case last night, I wanted to let a bounty go after he pleaded for his life in front of his family. When the man asked me to let him go I couldn't interact with the character, so I started to ride away. "The man is showing us clemency! quickly, let's go" said the wife, as they ran off...But then I got a notice saying "the bounty is getting away" and I failed the mission. I tried cancelling the mission but it wouldn't let me move on. I literally had no choice but to hogtie the man and drag him away from his devastated family. So much for "choice" and "honor".
In fact, speaking of choice, I had a situation where I rode too close to an event (the electric chair demonstration) and I tried to go past it as I wanted to do something else in town first...But then the game wouldn't let me get on my horse, no matter how far I ran away from said event. I went several blocks away but I couldn't mount my horse until I went back and started that mission.
Also, it is literally impossible to control my horse. My second horse that is...My first one died literally instantaneously (from full health) after an ambush where I didn't even have time to make one kill in dead eye...Yet other times I can take 50 bullets and still be fine. But yeah, on horseback I crash into things about every 30 seconds, go around in circles and fall over...On foot I go between the slowest walk possible and a crazy sprint. Either of those speeds causes me to bump into people which in turn causes a 20 minute shootout with law enforcement, the death of myself and my horse and a $300 bounty. And not only have I been gaming since Atari in the 80's, but I got gold on the GTAV flight school so it's not like I have trouble controlling things normally.
What else? Tried to capture the white Arabian, followed all the instructions, mounted it several times, every time it got away. Impossible to catch.
Side characters are ridiculous. Wasted about 4 hours on pointless missions for the French artist. Wasted another couple of hours for the electric chair demo. Now I'm trying to find bird feathers for some bizarre gay dude who lives in the botanical gardens, posting fish through the mail (cost: $5) to some moron who sends me a fishing lure in return (value: $3).
I'm honestly struggling to enjoy this game. After preordering the Ultimate Edition and buying a 4k TV just to play it.

This was pretty early in the game and I was uncertain of which button on my controller was the one that would lift the wagon or pull her out from underneath it. As I was performing random harmless actions in my confusion, the woman began to throw a string of insults in my direction for taking too long.
I decided that perhaps what I needed to get closer to her to activate the sequence that would free her, give me some honor, and maybe a little reward for my trouble. She called me an idiot one more time before my finger found the button that put an end to her misery. Arthur knelt down and punched her in the face; killing her.
Disappointed in the loss of honor, I figured I'd at least loot the body and get my reward. It was then than that, not one, not two, but three men on horseback approached to witness me as I turned the body over, still under the wagon, and took the valuable snake oil and half a dollar from the corpse. It was then that the game decided to teach me that witnesses would run off and report crimes; even unintentional ones.
I made it back to my horse, mounted up, and began to follow the three men on horseback, determined to get this right. Little did I expect that a group of O'driscoll men would round a bend and kamikaze my horse with theirs and then open fire as I rolled along the dirt road between the pair of flailing horses. I was lucky as the O'driscoll who hit me got crushed in the tumble and I was able to dead eye the others before taking too many bullets. For some reason, I reasoned that I should loot these bodies as well, since I had botched the rescue. I had forgotten that I was in the middle of a chase and was informed of my previous crime being reported during the looting. I had made about 4$ total now and got a $10 dollar bounty. As I mounted my horse again I got another notification of a witness. This time I would stop him.
I chased the witness all the way into Valentine, which wasn't that far from where to hose collision had taken place. In my desperation I decided to tackle the witness, only to notice as we were tumbling to the ground that I had been given an interface option in the corner of the screen to shout at him to stop. It's important at this point to note that the wagon accident happened just East of Valentine, and I had been traveling West along the road. This caused me to enter in the town close to the sheriff's office. If I were to pick a strategic place to tackle a person in Valentine, it would not have been here.
I was being shot at again, but this time I didn't want to fight back because I didn't know what would happen if I shot at the law, whom I had befriended earlier in the story. So I ran into the hills and waited for the manhunt to end.
That's how Red Dead Redemption taught me its controls and mechanics and how I ended up getting a $60 bounty in Valentine when all I wanted to do was rescue a woman from a toppled wagon.

the rdr2 inventory managment system is broken.
ones you find a new gun like a old revolver you can pick it up and drop it again on the floor.
ones you get back to your horse you will find the exact same old revolver you picked up just a second ago in your sadle bag.
And not only that ones you lose your expensive gun in the mud of river you will for some reson find it in your sadle bag or in your gunlocker, scary stuff. your can find all the guns your have collected or payed for in your gunlocker. Arthur's gunlocker can be found back at camp where his tent is, Arthur uses a chest wardrobe as his gunlocker, it is next to his bed.

Thing with red dead redemption 2 is that it’s a great story, amazing detail and a great world. Unfortunately it’s backed up by a garbage fire mess of gameplay. Controls are complete fucking garbage(i’ve had times where the controls just completely stopped working), every mission is painfully linear, bounty system is broken, being spammed by bounty hunters is annoying. I absolutely hate the gameplay, but i keep coming back for the amazing story. I get that won’t be a popular opinion, bit I think everyone has been distracted from the shit gameplay thanks to the story and beautiful graphics. They focused on the wrong things in some points, horses have testicles that shrink in the cold but several elements of the gameplay are half-assed.

Regarding your point about the "thin veneer of the dropping and equipping new weapons" and how they automagically go to your horse. It's deeper than that. I don't think it's EVER explained. I was affraid to drop a unique pistol I had, so I never picked up upgrades for pistoles because I thought there was no way of keeping both. Until I got the second holster and started experimenting. But this was tens of hours late into the game. Frustrating to say the least.

Tim is basically describing cyberpunk towards the middle of this video, talking about a game that can account for your failures and react to your previous decisions. Cyberpunk's only fail state is death, anything else the game just rolls with the punches. This mostly results in simple design, but it's still true that failure simply equals succeeding poorly rather than restarting to try again. One mission had me interrogate a ripperdoc for info, i decided to punch him cause he had creepy vibes. He later refused service once i came back, seeing online that he was the only ripperdoc that sells the best sandevistan in the game. I killed him for the transgression, but the sandy was already lost to decisions i had made hours of playtime prior. Decisions i didn't even need to make, i was being a dick cause i felt impatient, and it later bit me in the ass. That feels bad, but in an incredibly good way.

@@Sithlug I upgraded to an X with the GS deal. I was thinking of just getting a pro for the exclusives but after looking at it, it not as developed as a media hub. PS4 pro for exclusives, Xbox for centralizing your media center.... Both have their significant advantages.

how about the Anti-Pinkerton act of 1893. after which pinkertons could not be offered government work. That kinda hurt the realism for me. especially since Mr. Millton keeps claiming to work for the government.

complete and total failure on the part of the writing team's fact-checkers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe mister milton was NOT working for the government, or maybe he wasn't even a pinkerton? maybe he was a conman.
though probably milton just had a weak writer!
