I was about 4 when this came out. My dad had the tapes and we’d listen to them as we drove around in his ‘77 volkswagon beetle! This type of music has become one of my most favorite genres and to say that I remember those moments w him fondly is an understatement. Rest in peace to my dear dad❤️
Omg this takes me back to 1988. The '80s loved the '50s so much. It's like whatever decade you are in just go back thirty years and that is what people are nostalgic for lol. I remember this would come on late at night and I had no choice but to watch it on my little television with five crappy channels. 😂
"Remember when rock and roll had NO MESSAGES!" Since Fucking When?!? You're telling me that The Chordettes' Lollipop Song had no, ahem, hidden double entendre? That when the Beach Boys wished they all could be California Girls there was no hint of suggestion for, errr, a ménage a trois or four? "Two girls for every boy?" Riiiight? And Elvis wanting to be your teddy bear WASN'T an invite to BDSM ("put a chain around my neck and lead me anywhere?")? I mean, peeps!!! The analyzation is part of what makes rock fun!!! Get the Hell outa the land of make believe and see things thru my eyes, or at least try!!!
This is why I really loved watching these commercials because I remember the fun rock album offer back on television in the late 80s when I was a teenager because it showed this commercial featuring all of these people lip-synching throughout the entire tracks here.
I saw a gas station attendant in the ad. I totally don't remember seeing any in 1988, but then I live in USA & this is a Canadian ad. Probably another example of how lucky Canadians are.
Thanks for posting! This collection was the only thing I ever ordered (well, my parents ordered it as I was 10) from TV, and its influence on me was kinda profound!
@@user-bk5fb2vh4p naturally, people say Nirvana returned rock to its true form, but that’s BS. All they did was pave the way for bands like the ones I already mentioned.
hahahahahaha!!! I love it!!!! I remember watching this commercial when I was a kid. My mother even got the those cassettes. Thank you very much for providing this!!!
Ha, this was actually the first tape I ever bought--when I was 6--and I'm ashamed to say, all because of this commercial (although I only got one cassette--obviously I was missing out)
The old lady mimicking in Yakety Yak was probably in her 60s (born in 1920-25) and too old to get into rockabilly music in the 50s. Maybe she was one of the few youthful ones who did
“Remember when rock n roll had no message?” Bahahahaha, yeah right, old people were still complaining about it back then; like how Louie Louie had some hidden devil- or drug-related theme or something to it because the vocals were unintelligible crap
I found two tape track lists, and then made a list of what is probably most of the third from what else is listed on the commercial here. Yeah, I remember. There was lots of rock music that was fun until Nirvana and grunge arrived in 1991. All that did was pave the way for crap like Linkin Park and Nickelback, and today it isn’t any better. And if I’m stuck in the past, so be it!

Remember my father ordering these tapes and we'd listen to them. Life was so simpler then and I was only 10.
This commercial brings back memories. I used to watch it all the time in 87. The sugar sugar guy always reminded me of Mel from the show, Alice.
I used to listen to this album all the time as a kid( mom had all 4 lp's).... Loved it then. Love it now

Sally Go Round the Roses.
Fun rock is what spun off Oldies radio stations.

Ha ha! Listen to Wendell Craig getting so excited about the album, channeling his Nickelodeon announcer groove.
@Tim Uchwat Oh, that's heartbreaking! His voice is forever cemented into my memory...

That opening narration is amazing. They might as well have said "remember when music was incredibly dumb?"
She's not dumb, she's fun. Unlike boring songs with a message.
Except music wasn’t dumb back then. It was as they said, a lot more fun, unlike the majority of what came after Nirvana invaded in 1991.
@@infinitygenealpa You're right.

Wendell Craig, annoucner.
Remember when rock had no message, no meaning...and thus was no fun?
Isn't it time you tried....a better way of seeing things?
😎
No, it's just fun music with no backwards thoughts.
