    So I had the Milwaukee M18 random orbital sander and decided to purchase the new m18 sheet sander. I tested both on stripping paint from my kitchen cabinets to prep for paint. With both using 80 grit sand paper the sheet sander was way faster at stripping the paint. I figured it was going to be the other way around lol. Was only going to keep one but I don’t know which to keep so guess I’m keeping them both 😂

    • @mattcass82

      You are not alone! I am stripping the last bits of paint from trim and my Craftsman 2.0A 1/4 sheet sander is probably twice as fast as my Makita 5” random orbital. Both sanders are using 80 grit 3M pro grade. Go figure!

    I only have random orbit sander and I use it on bodywork on vehicles coz i only have a small compressor which cannot use DA sander. The good alternative is picking random orbit sander. Its like heaven-sent tool on prepwork. Cutting bodyfiller fast, flat and closest to the body as it could be rather blocking it to size. Also I use them to locate dents on huge panels whicu makes you more productive. Now i want to try finising sander for color sanding. ( getting rid of orange peel. ) My arms grow sore I sand only by hand. Anyway. Clear and concise video. Thank you!

    I'm in need of a new sander, so your video is very helpful to me. One thing stood out and that was aligning the holes on the orbital sander. I think I would cut two short dowels to stick into the sander opposite of each other, then slide the matching holes down the dowel. That should be quick, and maximize alignment.

      Use a drywall knife or spatula to scrape off the popcorn until the surface is smooth then sand it. Or if you only use a sander to remove the popcorn, use an orbital sander. Start with a coarse grit paper to remove the bulk of the popcorn then use a finer grit as you go in.

    • @Caliber8Tools

      All sanders leave swirls. If the swirl is very noticeable it could be something in between the sander and the wood, like dust or wood chips, worn out sand paper or sanding technique.

      Orbital sanders are more suited for rough sanding work. They are more powerful than sheet sanders. Sheet sanders are good for lighter sanding jobs and there is less risk of over sanding. Sheet sanders are also better for getting into those corners because of the square sheets. .

    • @Caliber8Tools
      @Caliber8Tools  2 года назад +1

      You can start with a coarse grit paper and work up to a finer grit. Is your dresser pressed wood. Anything from 40 grit to start on up to 150 to 220 fine grit to smooth it out.
      As far as removers, soapy water or a heat gun and putty knife are some chemical free options. Nail polish remover or paint thinner are options but the chemicals are harsh.
