I did this repair for the first time today and I used your method - the job turned out great so thank you its much appreciated! I couldn't get the two flex's to solder together for the first couple of goes but as soon as I added a big blob of solder to the iron to give it the extra heat needed they bonded together lovely. Thanks again!

Wow… I just followed the iFixit guide to open the MacBook and then your guide regarding the cable, and now the screen turns on again. I still have „stage light“ but not sure if it is because I „repaired“ just one cable or did something wrong - anyhow at least the screen working again!
    Thank you SO SO MUCH

I'm going to have to try this, my screen has always been dead, i bought it cheap to use with external monitor, it just goes white usually with lines running vertically, a big black line just off center and 3 thinner ones. but when it tries to work you can see most of the screen but get the big line near the middle and the other thinner ones still, and it tends to flicker a lot with no relation to the hinging of the screen.. could well be the cable.

    • @sverreat453

Solder maintains contact and isn’t really meant to hold things together. I would imagine that without the tape the connection it likely to break faster.

One side has the substrate so if you scrape that away all that you will have left is the fragile copper foil traces. This way the substrate remains intact

I have a 2017" 13" MBP. I Just keep the lid open all the time, to not put any stress on the cable. I use my laptop always on my desk though, I almost never move around with it. If you have to travel and open the lid regularly, then I would try to avoid opening the lid at max possible angle, as it gives most stress to the cable.
