What is this mother talking about? When you go to an alternative school your diploma still says the school you're zoned for. I went to an alternative school to graduate on time and I'm currently a junior at Georgia State. The whole students being suspended for defending their self will always annoy the hell out of me.

It is too harsh imho, how about anger management at a stage earlier than being expelled? I see pretty clear how young black boys in the US run a gauntlet not to end up in jail.
Thats soo stupid, Ive had kids having big mouths against the teachers, get into fights etc...They get suspension ..But they graduate and still manage to go to college. I dont get schools who ruin the future of kids because of fights..
Do they do any seasons with different schools? There are so many cultures from all around the country I would love to watch what the high school is like.

Last chance high focused on Montifeore (Which was an alternative school for bad kids) There was also a similar documentary about Fenger High School on Chicago, when Rahm Emanuel was the mayor of Chicago,. It used to come on the HBO cable channel. The Oprah Winfrey show did one I Chicago between one of the white suburban schools and the black urban school. I think it was Englewood High School and Naperville West High School.
Schools definitely have like a prison mentality of "I only saw you so....", In my school they would ALWAYS suspend both people for fighting regardless of what the circumstances where.
Mykenzie is always going to be wrong no matter what she does in this school, if it comes between a white girl & a black girl in a black school, it's always gonna be the black girl that's right.

I was Makenzi in school. I didn't bother anyone, but I would defend myself, and well to boot. My mom knew, if I was fighting, it 9 times outta 10 wasn't me who started it or threw the 1st punch. I always let them hit me 1st so I could say self defense and THEN I'd proceed to beat tf outta them!!! And my mom's ALWAYS defended me. I only got punished for 1 fight because I went a little too far and broke a girl's nose by slamming her head into the locker. Otherwise, suspension was just a vacation for me.

Why did the principal speak as if it was only the black kids that had to 'prove' they are 'not that bad after all'? I just can't stand the cowering nature exposed at that cafe meeting.
If Mykenzi was my daughter I would pull her out of that school so fast. Not because of race but culture. Why should my child feel like she always has to defend herself. Yes the world is a cruel place but nope she wouldn’t be in that school for a single day.
I will say that while I went to a more diverse school just outside of Philly we still had a lot of the same issues. We had people from all across the socio-economic spectrum. I was on the advanced track with all the rick people but came from the poor "black" neighborhood. I never saw a principal as present as this one is. I got in trouble 1 time in high school for skipping class because it was the first not honors class I took and was bored. When I went to the principal's office he said " Why don't I know you" my response was "Because I don't get in trouble". That is literally the only way that they get to know who students are and that is sad.
About the fight. In my majority white high school if girls fought they swept that under the rug and maybe someone got an in school suspension. If a weapon was used then they did get expelled.
