DC has soooo many great characters that should be pushed more due to their artistic accomplishments and unique takes on tropes. Jonah Hex, Question, Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol, Lobo, Kammandi, etc. It's a company whose secondary characters should be at the center of big events because they are the ones who always weave the backdrops to the whole universe.

Hex's death was the only time I ever cried from reading a comic.

Lansdale is a favorite of mine as well. I'm not overly fond of Hap and Leonard, but his older short story material is just blissfully insane.

Yes! A Joe Landsdale shout out! I'd give an extra upvote just for that if I could.

Lansdale and Truman did a Lone Ranger and Tonto series for Topps Comics that's more of the same.

How much of these stories reflect what Jonah Hex is like in general? I remember reading Two Gun Mojo back when I was a kid and loving it for its artstyle and horror elements, but forgot all about Hex until rediscovering him just a couple days ago. I'd be interested in reading more stories similar to Two Gun Mojo, but wouldn't know where to start, other than the other two stories mentioned here.

How am I only now learning of a third JONAH HEX Vertigo series?
Also, it should be noted that Lansdale, Truman and Glanzman also collaborated on a 4-issue LONE RANGER & TONTO miniseries for Topps Comics. While it was a little more PG-rated than their R-rated HEX stuff, it was still gritty, grimy and weird. A really fun read!

try reading lincolns own words, then see if that line still holds,
but i doubt you'd take that chance.

I actually liked Two Gun Mojo as well as Bubba Hotep, believe it or not. For some reason I really liked him as a child, although the comics did not survive my mothers cleaning.

I feel like the New 52 reset killed the Jonah Hex comic that was straight western years later as well

So, since your last video ikept reading Young Animal stuff and i gotta say: Shade really surprised me, i didnt expect a drama to grab me the way it did. It's experimental in terms of visually externalizing emotions but i think it fit the overall tone somewhat. I recommend it, but warned: This is a scifi romance, not an action superhero comic. Cave carson was dull to me, it had a promising start but then it really dragged by the middle, it's basically a less interesting version of Brian Azarello's Doctor 13.

That art work does look appropriately grimy and dusty.

Joe Lansdale actually spoke in my horror class in college. He was a pretty cool and funny guy. He mostly talked about his short story Night They Missed the Horror Show, which we read in class
