  • Your backyard is filled with divine plants that look like weeds, but are actually superfoods. Sow thistle (and thistles in general) as well as prickly lettuce are some examples of things you can forage for in your own yard. However, be aware of what you have. Don't just go eating any old plant out of your yard.
Sow thistle is great for helping milk production in your livestock and it's a superfood that they love. It's also great for humans as it has four times the amount of antioxidants than red wine and twelve times that in black tea. It also is high in Vitamins A, B, C, and K and also high in essential fatty acids, calcium, copper, fiber, iron, manganese, and zinc. All from a plant that looks like a weed in your garden. Imagine what supplementing some of that into your diet or your animals diets can do for your health.
I also found some prickly lettuce in my yard, another great superfood with many benefits. Prickly lettuce or wild lettuce can help with things like asthma, coughs, insomnia...it's even used as an opium substitute in natural cough medicines.
As always be sure to identify your plants before consuming anything. Sow thistle and prickly lettuce don't look like much but they are a wonderful weed growing in your gardens. Let's put these wonderful, health-beneficial plants to use.
