  • The 2020 European Championships takes place, with Larisa Iordache making her debut after a three year hiatus following an injury.
    Lots of history was made, with less competitive countries able to medal this year as a result of traveling precautions from many European countries.

    I love Larissa. Hopefully she upgrades next year. She’s only scoring competitively on beam right now.

      The qualification system for the Olympic Games has changed. There is no qualification through the test event. You have the 2019 Word Campionships (Romania qualified only Maria Holbura, but not a full team), the World Cups circuit (Romania qualified no one) and the continental championships (the 2021 European Championships). There Romania can qualify another gymnast if she's in the top two all around

      @@Hervinbalfour I mean, I agree Larisa is fantastic, but she challenged Simone in 2014 (not really on multiple occasions, bc of inconsistency). Her current program is not competitive yet. let's hope it becomes that, but it's not and hasn't been for a long time, she's been struggling with injuries a lot. She would also have to qualify for the Olympics as an indiv, since Romania hasn't qualified a team.

    • @lucymichel9409
      @lucymichel9409 3 года назад +1

      To be clear, I am purely responding to your comment saying that thinking Larisa isn't really competition for Simone is "knowing nothing about gymnastics". She's great, her comaback is fantastic, and she crushed those championships like a queen.

    Why are the scores so low? Best gymnasts in the world, and Nobody in the 15s? I know the scores changed after 2016, but I didnt realize it was that much?

      @@usagtea8072 Considering you make videos concerning the duties of coaches, parents, and gymnasts in creating a healthy training and competitive environment, I find this response unfortunate. If we are at a point where we feel anonymous YT commenters have a better pulse on what is safe for 16+ year-old gymnasts than themselves, their parents, coaches, and federations, cancel the sport altogether.
      These women have trained the majority of their lives with the goal of competition -- many for the 2020 Olympics, an opportunity a lot will not get come 2021. Somehow, despite the lockdowns and restrictions, these girls managed to stay motivated enough to compete at this meet at this level, and we're against that?
      Since we've removed society's ability to decide on their own whether or not the risk of illness/injury outweighs the benefits of everyday life, what exactly is the issue? If we are saying that even after mandating masks, limiting social interaction, and other extreme measures, an athlete can't safely tumble in an empty arena, then what exactly is the point? There isn't.
      Remind me again, how many gymnasts and coaches were hospitalized as a result of COVID (seeing as training and competition continued into early 2020)? How many passed away? As horrible as even 1 death would be, that'd still be around the same odds as getting hit by a bus on the walk back to the hotel...
