Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex - Level 1: Arctic Antics (Crystal/Gem/Blue Gem)

- I'm gonna be doing a few quirky edits to my videos for this game to ensure that you don't have to wait at the loading screen every single time. For example, I cut off the screen that comes before Cortex's first talk with Crash.

Cortex reveals his superweapon, Crunch Bandicoot. This new bandicoot represents everything Cortex wanted Crash to be when he made him back in the first game. Since the Elementals brought Crunch to life, Cortex will use all of them to finally put an end to Crash.

This game's Warp Room is very much like Crash 3: Warped's. It's music is even an electronic remix of that game's theme!
This time, its five chambers, which contain 5 levels each, are grouped by elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and, uhhhh... "Space". How often these chambers' levels stay true to their element varies, though.
The Earth Chamber is the first one you can go into. Go into one of its levels to meet Rok-Ko, the Earth Elemental. He actually seems to be the youngest and weakest of them all. Rok-Ko here doesn't live a Modern Life, but his personality and voice reminds me of a generic Call of Duty dudebro. Either way, he's ready to bury Crash in his own grave if he starts gathering the Crystals that will be used to seal him.

Arctic Antics is a pretty straightforward level, though just like Crash 2's Level 1, it has a Blue Gem alongside the Crystal and the normal Gem. You must reach the platform that will take you to the Skull Route leading to the Blue Gem without dying, or you'll have to quit the level and try again.
To save time, I go after the Blue Gem, first, then use a Life to get back to the main route so I can still get the other treasures. 3-in-1, baby!

Again, since the loading screens for the PS2 version take a while, I'm gonna be skipping over them a lot so you don't have to worry about them much. Don't think that my "SKIP!" message is actually in the game. That's just a video edit.

actually this game got some really bad reviews at it's time,so maybe that's why they didn't or they didn't want to.Either way,there's a crash 4 game coming out this year.

@@undertaker9991 It was mostly fixed with the Gamecube and Xbox released, and they still couldn't Mediaval Madness to loop right so they had to cut that track out.
Besides, A Crack in Time has worse music streaming issues issues, talking about certain tracks not looping for 5 or more seconds after they end, or even not playing at all after playing a prerendered cutscene (and horrible audio mixing on top)

@@crashfan9997 The Ratchet game. I love that game but it has awful audio mixing and streaming issues. I have a theory that it is related to multiple types of sounds sharing the same sound channel but I can't be for sure.
It's About Time does not have any of these issues

Rose Supreme The way I see it with those complaints, when it comes to "Too Much like Crash 3", Wrath of Cortex does try its best to be like that game despite it being developed by a different VG company that it doesn't really have its own identity compared to the other games. And when it does try something new like the vehicle segments and adding a bunch of them over platforming, it kinda loses that Crash feeling of gameplay. But again, that's what I think when it came to the complaints.
Me personally, WOC isn't terrible. There are reused elements and stuff from Crash 3 albeit mostly not as good but they still made it fun. And my personal issues were that the bosses were underwhelming and Crunch should been a final boss with Cortex while the Elemental Masks teamed up with the other henchmen rather than being Atlasphere hazards. Tiny with Rok-Ko, N. Tropy with Wa-Wa, Dingodile with Py-Ro and N. Gin with Lo-Lo.

I remember this game very well. It is a great Crash Bandicoot game. It's one of my favorite Crash games in my opinion. I feel like it doesn't get the credit that the game deserved. If I see this game again for a great price, I'm gonna buy it again, I haven't played this game since I was a kid. I feel so much nostalgia for this game again. :) Great video ! :)

@Rigby because its very lazy compared to original naughty dog trilogy (if u played it).
Proof: music stop at: 4:36 no sfx sound of gem out of the transparent box 8:12, lack of lvl creativity cause low score on game critics.

Got this game 20 years ago on Christmas Day in 2001 one best Christmas I had in my childhood what game so so nostalgic
The first thing I remember about this game is that the loading screens were incredibly long.. And if you lost a life you sometimes had to hear long stretches of dialogue over and over again.. Still an alright game though

This level felt rather iconic to me due to the atmosphere isn’t the n.sanity beach or turtles wood like location but something unique which is the arctic setting and the music is a bit more memorable than turtle woods’ theme and n.sanity island’s theme (also I wish this level is recreated in the pc port of crash 4: it’s about time (even though there’s a level mod of it in the n.sane trilogy but I like to see this what it look like in crash 4: it’s about time)

Arctic Antics hint: complete the secret death route for a special gem
I KNEW YOU COULD INTERACT WITH THE WOLLY MANMOTH
At least for this level, I used to go past the death platform to detonate the nitro crates and get the clear gem. Then I'd go back and do the death route with no nitros to get the blue gem.

I had the demo on the original Xbox back when the system launched. Then I didn't realise that it was on PS2 and Game Cube then later on Xbox 360 backward compatability.

How did you even unlock that special death route in the first place? When I started the game, it was always transparent with a green outline.

Very unlikely. WoC and Twinsanity unfortunately aren't very popular titles among Crash fans, plus it seems people want a new Crash game instead of another remake, but it's possible they might put some references in the next game if they don't remake these games

Why lose a life to go back to the checkpoint in the Death Route?? Use the Nitro Switch to destroy all of the Nitro, get the White Gem and go to the Death route collect the Blue Gem and Slide Jump to the Exit. Easy
It is faster than backtracking after clearing the nitros.

If you mean the Death Route, you have to get to the Skull Platform without dying in the level once. That's how to get to the Aqua Gem

If you have older consoles, you can pick this game up off of Ebay or Amazon, since most retail places don't really do classic games anymore. If you have a computer, you can get emulators, but you have to make sure your computer isn't trash if you want it to run smoothly lol

you should have got the crystal and gem first and then go back and get the blue gem. thats what i used to do anyway to save lives
