Just a heads up that the Antec C8 Curve Wood wasn't available in PC Part Picker as of time of filming. MSRP is $149.99. And don't forget fans! There's plenty of wiggle room in a budget like this, so pick and choose what works for you. Stay tuned for the follow-up video! Thanks for watching.
Same here. I just built one two weeks ago and having it power on and post the first time was a great feeling! Watching these videos gave me the confidence to build my own rig!
That's why you test with a minimal setup first. You don't build the entire pc up to the last screw an zip-tie before trying to tuen it on for the first time. For some readon I will never comprehend every single tech youtuber does this same mistake, again and again, no matter how many times it bites them in the posterior.
Lol happened to me with an SFF build motherboard was dead. Not sure if it came that way or if I borked the BIOS flash (did one of those plug a USB into your motherboard with nothing installed) BIOS updates. But got a new motherboard and all was well. It sucked having a complete build not work and having to tear it apart to fix it. But was happy when it all worked in the end.
Greg, what I love about your videos is you're not afraid to show a fail. It's something every PC builder experiences at some point. Keep up the good work.
This happened to me except my pc wouldn't turn with the front panel USB 3 header plugged in. I figured it was a short so I just left it unplugged. Not problems since. 😂
Honestly, the first thing I'd check is to make sure the Arctic contact frame is tightened down enough. The lack of contact pressure for the pins would explain the Q-Flash Plus working but not front panel connectors.
I have come to commiserate, friends. Today I finally bit the bullet and decided to build my new rig. I’ve had all the parts ready to go for… an embarrassing amount of time; I was avoiding it because I was going to reuse my old case and hard drives, and I was switching from nvidia to amd, so I knew it would be a hassle. And, oh boy, it was. But I got it together eventually, booted it up, prepared to install the new drivers… and it blue screened. Repeatedly. But it wasn’t the drivers that were the problem at all, that was a red herring I spent way too much time on. Turns out one of the RAM modules was faulty (new, from Corsair). I tested both in the same slot, and one cause a blue screen within a minute, even if you were sitting on the login screen, while the other worked perfectly. It’s thanks to your fix or flop series that I even knew to do that.
I have to assume the RAM was DDR 5. In which case auntmarypals7978 is on to something. See derBauer where he talks about the new gen memory. Good for U on U'r 1st build !
That curved piece of glass was probably the single most expensive part of this case. I think it looks amazing. What an amazing looking case. They just told LianLi to hold their beer. Is that even available on the market yet? I'd seriously consider moving my system into that.
I'm happy I built my PC when I did. Ordered everything in early April when the 7800X3D was still affordable. I got it on a Newegg flash sale to boot, paid $330 or $340 for the CPU, and got a 4070Ti Super for just over $800, but I could have gone for a cheaper model, I just really liked the look and specs of the one I got.
12900k is a great choice. Just built one in a Thermaltake View 71 full tower, WD Black 2 TB Nvme, RTX 4070 Super Founders Edition GPU, 64 gb DDR5-6400, 1300 Watt PSU, Noctua NH D15S CPU Cooler, Asus ROG Strix X670E WiFi, LGA 1700 Contact Frame.
It isn't liquid damage. It's a board where he previously purposely covered the socket in thermal paste. The liquid "damage" you can see is where he cleaned the board off with IPA and he tested it afterwards. ruclips.net/video/0QiOpoiFzPM/видео.html
Oh that’s definitely the mobo. Q-Flash and the thermal paste in the socket. I think I remember it working before though. So it could’ve developed a problem internally. Hopefully not.
Kudos to Greg for taking a video "failure" and still uploading it. I guess ultimately getting another video out of this system is probably better overall.
That’s a good looking case. I love the curve. I just built a new system using the NZXT H9 elite and it cost me too. Looks awesome but I would have went with this case in a heartbeat!
I personally got a 4070ti Super for the dual encoder. If I'm not mistaken, anything under a 4070ti does NOT have the dual encoder. I used to have a RTX 2080 Super and I could easily stream to RUclips & Record at the same BUT if I wanted to stream YT & Twitch then the encoder would overload. So I recently upgraded and now I can stream to YT with AV1, also record with AV1, and use NVENC H264 for streaming to Twitch & it's been working perfectly!
You should do an Adam West Batman-esque outro. Like "Will Greg find a way out of this tricky situation? Find out next time on the same Greg time, same Greg channel!" On another note I've still got my Antec 900 with a new Noctua 200mm top fan and thinking I should turn it into a home nas server with all it's room for activities.
This case looks so cool with the curved glass panel! I personally don't like wood accents that much because everyone is doing them now but Antec did it in a tasteful way.
That wood is so nice, maybe in a smaller size, without such a huge tempered glass panel, it would be perfect for a home theater - gaming PC! Also, 9:02 hello there!
I recently had a new HTPC, that wouldn't post. Brand new EVGA PS, and when I checked it on a tester it was in "ATX Parameters". After swapping out almost all the other components of the build, it ended up the power supply. I was relieved and disappointed that all that trouble and it was the BRAND new EVGA. After all of that , I got a new power supply tester, a Thermaltake Dr. Power III. Can't wait to see your solution to that sweet build.
Antec has really been out there and showing that they can make fantastic cases. I got myself the Performance 1 FT (main pc) and a P20C (second pc) and im trying to convice my partner that she needs the Flux Pro :D Now i need to find an excuse to buy this C8 curve wood and build in it... Looking foward to the next video :D
Both PCs I have built in the last year failed to boot at first. I am no expert so thankfully I knew someone who could look into it. One was a front IO that was faulty and needed to be replaced (Antec C7 case). The other was a bad power supply from Corsair which was returned and replaced at the same time. Neither of which I would have figured out myself. I have to say it's reassuring to see what I would consider an expert builder and troubleshooter run in to similar issues.
I had a similar experience when I used a contact frame for the first time. But yes, those CPU socket pins looked a little off at 4:22. Second, that GPU is may be inadequate for streaming AAA games thanks to the limited VRAM. Over on Twitch the streamer Nethesem found he could not stream Star Wars Jedi Survivor on a 12 GB card without crashing. He resolved the issue by adding a second GPU to handle the streaming overhead.
Game-specific issue. A vast majority won't come close to 12GB unless you're intentionally trying to saturate the frame buffer. If you want a 16GB card, go for it. But I wouldn't dissuade someone from 4070-ish performance over 12GB of VRAM.
From my experience. If you're going to run OBS to stream/record. It's best to run a dual PC setup and use a dedicated streaming/editing PC. I have a high end PC (7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000 CL30, 4090) and as soon as I run OBS I instantly drop 20%+ fps (and I don't run anything fancy on in my OBS scenes). It is just not worth the performance drop to stream and game on the same PC. The streaming PC does not have to be a high end PC. You can repurpose your old PC to be a streaming PC.
@@Dan-Simms I use NVENC. It doesn't matter of OBS is recording or streaming. Just launching it drops the performance by 20%+ while recording/streaming it doesn't add much more to the drop. It's the scenes that are heavy. I created a super light profile just for PC games with just one scene with the a game capture (not desktop capture) and a webcam capture. and that's it That's the profile that is dropping 20%+ frames. If I use my profile for consoles with a lot more scenes and effects it dropps frames by 35%+. It's OBS itself and the scenes that are heavy to run. It probably hits the CPU performance much more than the GPU performance.
Sorry man, it sucks for your schedule.. but it certainly doesn't suck for the channel. Things like this happen, they are part of system building and it's cool that you leave it in and show the process instead of just fixing it off camera and pretending it was fine. Building is easy when everything works out of the box, but it's the diagnostic process when things go bad that is the true art of it all. Looking forward to the follow up to this, I have a feeling it will be a learning experience for many of us.
Nice Build Greg, Your vids are always a pleasure. Beautiful case, another banger from Antec! I would only change, 1 tb drive(add more later) and a 4070 TiS or maybe an RX7900XT instead.🤷♂😂 Hey did you check out my custom case, duel rig? video is on my channel 😉🤣🤣 I know you like a full rig and oh boy she is full! 🤣🤣 Was a a long grind, but super happy with how it turned out!... Might add a few extra bits though! Watch this space! 🤣🤣
i wouldnt say the case isnt structurally bad. Its still got the three case points to keep it sound and not unstable. So i dont think the curved tempered glass panel isnt really doing much but providing a closed clase.
I try to avoid cases with side fans, especially if there is room for 3 fans top and bottom. I also gave the C8 case a miss in my latest build because of the location of the PSU directly behind the CPU region in the case. Overall IMO cases like this are built for looks over function, trying to look flashier than others, as if that helps performance. p.s. if you are fitting side fans, try to at least buy reverse flow fans.
Oddly enough i somehow had a nvme drive completely cause my PC to not turn on. I have absolutely no idea how or why an nvme drive would cause a PC to not boot but I stripped the entire PC down 1 by 1 and last thing was the drives and 1 of them just bunked stuff up. It was wild. I thought my psu was dead for sure.
I’ve been watching your videos for years, although only subscribed for a couple, and I must say I’m liking the stubble. It makes you look older and more mature. Are you planning on going full beard? Anyway great video as always and sweet looking build.
I see an episode of Fix or Flop coming up! The last bit, with the fake out power up, reminds me of the infamous Verge video, but they would have done a cut and showed it running perfectly. (No Greg, I am NOT comparing you to that guy!)
Yep, from our thermal paste in socket video :-) It POSTed without issue after the clean-up, however, so I _highly_ doubt it's the reason for what we're seeing here. Will follow up shortly!
@@GregSalazar it may have not caused issues back then, but looking at the color of the pins it may have caused some kind of oxidation, which makes the pins less conductive. Which thermal paste did you use with the paste in socket test? Most white zinc-oxide (white) thermal paste will cause oxidation on copper
Greg, I had my doubts when I saw the thermal paste residue in the cpu socket at 4:22. I think this motherboard has been in one too many videos. If I remember correctly this was the motherboard that you used for the things not to do when building a PC a while back. I'm not surprised it's not working now.
It worked perfectly fine in the previous video. Posted, gamed, etc. without issue. I honestly think this is the result of a bad BIOS flash. Not totally sure but will hopefully find out in the follow-up video :-)
Suggestion for a future video: Pfsense router software installed on one of the Topton 6x 2.5Gb Intel LAN port mini PC's sold on AliExpress, or similar. Or: take the Brightline train to the Miami MicroCenter store.
I am scratching my head right now, what went wrong? Hmm, maybe it is something with the socket/CPU contact when you had to remove the mechanism? A screw or something shorting the Mainboard from behind? I don't know.
you could have saved alot on this build if you did the micro centre bundle deal with 12900k. according to 1:22 you would have had $130 extra so could have justified either a better cooler or more towards maybe a 4070ti super? Edit : also noticed at 1:22 wrong ram. DDR4 in photo and used DDR5 in build.
Moat of the parts listed are not the parts in the build. Only things used were CPU & cooler -- the rest are totally different and more expensive throwing the total $$$ out the window.
@@psychogho4096 bold strategy! Lol I’m looking at upgrading my pc atm (8700k 2080S) and what cpu atm would you recommend for gaming atm? I play in 1440p high fps and was considering 9600x and 4070ti super?
@@Vikturus22 Depending on your monitor's refresh rate, you may want to push for a 4080/5080 depending on when you upgrade. The card will allow you to game at 1440p while taking advantage of the higher refresh rate. Of course, if there is a 9600X3D -- go for that variant.
@@psychogho4096 I'm not sure to what you're referring with regards to what's listed vs. what's in the build. The first PCPP list matches almost part-for-part what we built. The other two lists shown are alternatives for performance/AMD. Also, @Vikturus22, not everyone lives near a Micro Center. I don't have time to drive 4+ hours to my nearest one just to save $50-100 right now. And the second PCPP list shown at 1:22 is NOT the wrong RAM... it's for a DDR4-based performance alternative. Pay close attention to the other parts chosen for it. That was literally the point :-)
can you please tell me which one is best for both gaming ( RT on ) and editing in ultra high setting. which CPU is best purchase from ryzen 7 7800x3d, ryzen 9 7900x3d, ryzen 9 9900x, ryzen 7 950x, + 4070 ti super ( or else please you can advise it no one from the above) love from Delhi
To be fair, all of these components have been tested in builds prior to their assembly in this one. Nothing here was foreign. I suspect a bad BIOS flash.

its much easier to install the contact frame for the cooler with the motherboard on the box. just a small tip for next time.
Looks like you are a watch fan! Are you interested in making a video about your watch collection? It can be interesting. You have a good taste.
I noticed the CPU/MB/RAM combo picked for the build also matches the $299 bundle from MicroCenter!

4:24 The pins on the mobo seem a bit off or something is stuck in them.
Yep, from our thermal paste in socket video :-) It POSTed without issue after the clean-up, however, so I _highly_ doubt it's the reason for what we're seeing here. Will follow up shortly!
glad i wasnt the only one that noticed the socket looked off. thought i was losing it
@@azamar818 same here i was like is that dusty or something?
@@GregSalazar it may have not caused issues back then, but looking at the color of the pins it may have caused some kind of oxidation, which makes the pins less conductive. Which thermal paste did you use with the paste in socket test?
Most white zinc-oxide (white) thermal paste will cause oxidation on copper
I noticed this immediately too. The problem is almost certainly there.
I saw the moment where it _didn't_ power on, and I spoke aloud, "Oh no... he's got a dead motherboard!"
i was scared of breaking my tempered glass before!
Antec: fears intensifies
Greg, I had my doubts when I saw the thermal paste residue in the cpu socket at 4:22. I think this motherboard has been in one too many videos. If I remember correctly this was the motherboard that you used for the things not to do when building a PC a while back. I'm not surprised it's not working now.
It worked perfectly fine in the previous video. Posted, gamed, etc. without issue. I honestly think this is the result of a bad BIOS flash. Not totally sure but will hopefully find out in the follow-up video :-)
@@GregSalazar Looking forward to the follow-up ☺
I was streaming, recording and playing while on a r5 1600x with a rx580. $2k for a PC is a lil crazy.
Not crazy for those who want the performance. Your PC might stream fine, but this would stream significantly better and in higher resolutions.
@@GregSalazar of course but not everyone has $2k to throw at a PC these days.
Suggestion for a future video: Pfsense router software installed on one of the Topton 6x 2.5Gb Intel LAN port mini PC's sold on AliExpress, or similar. Or: take the Brightline train to the Miami MicroCenter store.
I seriously want to buy that case!
4:22 Brother ewwwwwwwwww what is that. That socket looks COOKED. Lol
My first thought is to check the Artic CPU contact frame, maybe something needs to be reseated and/or adjusted.
Yay a fix or flop video special edition* incoming 😁
*Special edition because it's Gregs own PC 😁
Turned into a Fix or Flop episode
after rewatching this vid i think i remember this mobo from your old vids cause it has thermal paste on the socket
My nightmare. Build a computer that will not turn on. No hate from me Greg, Murphy's Law is coming into play here, in a very nasty way.
I am scratching my head right now, what went wrong? Hmm, maybe it is something with the socket/CPU contact when you had to remove the mechanism? A screw or something shorting the Mainboard from behind? I don't know.
I'm going to go with the board doesn't like your cpu. Reset and maybe reflash the bios will get you back on your way.
Can't wait to see the 'fix' video. BIOS fault? Or CPU bracket putting more pressure than intended?
you could have saved alot on this build if you did the micro centre bundle deal with 12900k. according to 1:22 you would have had $130 extra so could have justified either a better cooler or more towards maybe a 4070ti super?
@@psychogho4096 I got a asus 1440p 165hz monitor
@@psychogho4096 I'm not sure to what you're referring with regards to what's listed vs. what's in the build. The first PCPP list matches almost part-for-part what we built. The other two lists shown are alternatives for performance/AMD. Also, @Vikturus22, not everyone lives near a Micro Center. I don't have time to drive 4+ hours to my nearest one just to save $50-100 right now. And the second PCPP list shown at 1:22 is NOT the wrong RAM... it's for a DDR4-based performance alternative. Pay close attention to the other parts chosen for it. That was literally the point :-)
can you please tell me which one is best for both gaming ( RT on ) and editing in ultra high setting. which CPU is best purchase from ryzen 7 7800x3d, ryzen 9 7900x3d, ryzen 9 9900x, ryzen 7 950x, + 4070 ti super
( or else please you can advise it no one from the above)
love from Delhi
That was unexpected
It does LOOK good 😉
New playlist idea: "Build and Flop"
Got that arctic freezer 3, did not expect the pumphead to be huge 😂 first time using liquid aio 😂
So let’s build part 1 that turned into fix or flop part 2.
And this is why we test before closing up the back panel of the case
To be fair, all of these components have been tested in builds prior to their assembly in this one. Nothing here was foreign. I suspect a bad BIOS flash.
@@GregSalazar just giving a hard time, it happens to the best of us. Hope you have a great trip and look forward to the follow up video.
that feeling when you try to power on your freshly built setup and it doesn't do anything... I know it, would not recommend :D
That moment you dread. ;). I’ve been there and done that.
Well……that bites! Not like it hasn’t happened to me.
