Lovely!! Tolkien is my model of a good man and father. I created a similar, much simpler mythology of letters from the tooth faerie for my girls. Now that they are older and “know”, the tooth faerie is now affectionately called the “Nerd” faerie and the legend continues. Merry Christmas Rainbow Dave!

As odd as this sounds as a child I was absolutely obsessed with Santa Claus/Father Christmas. Obsessed might be an understatement. My mom sewed me a coat and hat like Santa’s and she even made a beard of sheep’s wool. One year I was surprised with a wooden sleigh and wicker reindeer. I would pretend for hours to be Santa. I don’t know why but I wanted to be Santa and as a full grown man Id say that that is pretty strange and most would agree with me. When I learned of these works by Tolkien I was captivated. It is two of my favorite things combined, Tolkien and Christmas. Great video Rainbow Dave I hope you have a Merry Christmas and I really appreciate your videos throughout this year.

My mom wrote books both for classwork (Early Education) and for me and my little sister. They are some of my favorite works, yet only one has been published. I hope to publish the rest of her works at some point. She does not have an epic backstory like Tolkien, but these stories told, sometimes with us featuring in the stories, are so precious to us. 💕💕

Your commentary on him is very close to mine. And of course JRRT himself wrote the Eldar named him among the Great Elf friends throughout the Ages. So thankyou for your treatise of him. Interestingly (re 9:20) there was apparently (as per wikipedia) a total solar eclipse visible in the UK in 1927. I might speculate that this may have fed Tolkien's narrative here.

PS Dave- I really enjoy Tolkien's artwork in his letters. While crude in style, I love his attention to details( like his writings) and the colors he chose; primary and their compliments, I noticed in the bedroom scene of Fr. Christmas sleeping in his bed. Purple and yellow, blue and green, red. Just wondering to myself if this also was intentional by the Professor. A fun fact of my own, that I thought to be cool!
If I ever have children, I 100% intend to emulate, without copying this tradition. My parents did short letter from Santa to myself and sister, I feel I will have to let my ADHd take control when the time comes 😂
My mum used to read Letters from Father Christmas to my brother and I when we were little at bedtime, we loved it. I’ve never really thought about it before but this would have been the first time I heard any Tolkien, maybe it’s what started my love for his work!?

The storytelling here was your “Eiffel Tower, [your] Rachmaninoff’s third, [your] pieta.” (Stolen from Iron Man 2’s Juston Hammer describing how amazing his final missile for the Iron Man suit.) While I deeply loved your telling of the story, I was very much saddened by the expected conclusion of the stories. Oh wow RD. Good luck with your book. While it's immensely enjoyable it can sometimes be quite an introverted process to undertake. I'm beginning my 3rd book about the friction between two groups of young adults. One group into ascension through spirituality, the other into ascension through merging with technology. From the Beginning for Days to the story of Feanor, from Morgoth’s wrath to the rise of Fingolfin, from the hatred of kin unto kin to the brotherhood between Fingon and Maedhros and from the bliss of Beren-Luthien to the desolation of Turin, finding your YT channel was one of the highlights of this year.

Hi Tarl, I’ve spent the past couple of months working on my book, but last week, I decided to take a short break from that and work on a few videos instead. Oh wow RD. Good luck with your book. While it's immensely enjoyable it can sometimes be quite an introverted process to undertake. I'm beginning my 3rd book about the friction between two groups of young adults. One group into ascension through spirituality, the other into ascension through merging with technology.
