being a gigging guitarist for many years ,i always went for fender or gibson , i new about prs for years but always passed on them till a few months ago i managed to get my mits on a custom 22 ten top natural, trem & dragon 11 pickups, the quality is amazing ,playing it has given me new energy for the instrument ,thanks PRS ,beautiful guitars .

Got mine PRS for about 1 year now and by today I´m still stunned each and every time I pick this beauty to play. The feel, the sound, the looks, the craftmanship, the way this guitar allows you to play & hear details in the way you are playing...
Of course, the price tag is nothing nearly cheap or something you gonna buy when it comes to your mind. But hands down: it is worth every cent. :)
I could seriously watch these guys put color and finish on these guitars ALL DAY. So amazing, I hope I can get a PRS soon, they are truly works of art!
I am 67 years old and in the 70's in Annapolis Md.and Paul was the go to guy for guitar work. He fixed a broken off headstock on my Les Paul special 55 reissue and did fretwork etc and installed a stratoblaster on my Strat. In the backroom of his shop, I saw his prototype of his now iconic guitars cuz I remember that cool shape and lo and behold, he has really made a statement in the world guitar market. Now, the good stuff. I just bought a 2017 PRS SE Custom 24 limited run rosewood 24 with a maple neck and WOW ! Now I get it, for the 700.00 I spent, I feel like I stole this axe! I cannot believe I never got one before this and The sound is incredible, the neck is somewhat Strat but not, the resonance is unreal and the whammy works right.I am already looking towards my next PRS axe and loving it.

I once owned a 51 Pickup all customized frame off restoration! When I drove it with just the primer it was slower than after it had a nice layer of candy apple red! Go figure! Pure engineering magic! Lol

I am reading lots of comments on the high price of these guitars and I want folks to know that the SE line of PRS, are very high quality guitars and set up when they are shipped to the customer with great colors and guts. I can afford an American made PRS, but the SE line is just wonderful and totally affordable.
In my opinion, PRS is one of the most underrated guitar companies out there. I personally would like to own one.

When the guy started talking about the process of building a neck, I remembered how I came across my SE. A couple of years ago, I wasn t really fond of PRS guitars, but one afternoon at the store, after a couple of hours of trying all sorts of models and brands (completely unimpressed by lots of the supposedly high end stuff), I went like meh, and grabbed a korean custom 24. I sat down, and my hands immediately adapted to the neck, like a perfect fit. Playing felt natural and effortless, so I guess that's the type of feeling that the guy was talking about.
Which also means that they apply this standard not only to their usa maryland built models, but to their korean line as well.
Btw, a year and a half later, after moving to another hemisphere, switching climate zones and all, the neck didnt warp, tuning stability is still great and the intonation is fine.
I've played Gibson and Fender guitars exclusively for over 20 years. I got my first PRS guitar, a USA Custom 24, a few months ago. I was never a fan of PRS guitars, mostly because I wasn't a fan of the flashy appearance. But, since I purchased the PRS it has become my #1 guitar. While Gibson and Fender make fantastic Custom Shop guitars, one thing I've realized is that EVERY Paul Reed Smith guitar is a Custom Shop guitar. The workmanship and detail applied to Gibson Custom and Fender Custom Shop are the same workmanship and detail that goes into an everyday PRS guitar.

@High Hopes as a matter of fact I played a '97 custom 22 about 3 weeks ago and my only thought was "man if this just had 4 legs it would make a really nice coffee table..."
I prefer Jackson and ESP custom guitars to PRS. The only PRS model I actually liked playing was the limited production Mark Holcomb USA model. Sadly they quit making it!
The cheapest PRS SE guitar shits all over any Fender Custom or Gibson Custom.
There are high end guitars, and then there are PRS guitars.
PRS guitars are the most absolutely gorgeous instruments I have ever seen. The variety of color and design just astonishes me, whilst the price tag scares me.
That dark blue bound Custom 24 he held towards the end is amazing.

OK I can't afford a core model PRS, so I bought an SE. I have to say that I own several guitar's, Gibson's and Epiphone's and I have always been partial to the Gibson brand and never played a PRS before because I had heard that the SE line was not that good and I am not in the income range fora CE. I went ahead and bought an SE anyhow because I wanted to know for myself just how bad or good they were and I always order on line from American so I never get to play the exact guitar I buy before I buy it. I was so happy when I got my SE yesterday and unboxed it and jammed on it for a while, and I am in love with this guitar now. I cased the Sheraton I usually play and I am now hooked on this guitar. It fuckin playes itself.

Randy Tyson I got my PRS SE 245 a few months ago, and let me tell ya man, it plays circles around everything Ive touched. Came out of the packaging set up, and surprisingly in tune. The Neck is godly, and its got a great sound to it. Only thing Id consider changing about her is the bridge pickup to a Super Distortion, as the stock pickup is not quite my speed.

I've had my PRS Custom 24 for nearly 20 years, IT NEVER GOES OUT OF TUNE. it sounds great, Ive never had any maintenance done on it and it was second hand. best guitar in the world no doubt
Couldn't agree more. Mine are 30 years old and play like they did when they were new. Never had to do a truss rod adjustment on any of them. Amazing.

First off I'm a Gibson kinda guy & have been since the early 80s, never really cared for Leo's guitars though I've owned several of them too, Then my son bought a USA PRS CE-22 4-5 years ago & I was impressed at the build quality & the overall quality of the guitar in general.. We ended up selling the PRS later on though.. I like the 25" scale, It's an in between the Gibson 24 3/4" & Fenders 25 1/2".. Paul does know how to build them guitars great.. Try one on for size & you'll get it right away, You get what you pay for on high end guitars.. That being said I have several other guitars other than Gibsons mostly Ibanez & Jacksons/Charvels.. Note: My Les Paul is an M-III with all the single coil sounds of a strat + the LP sounds too.. WIN WIN.. See Avatar.. ROCK ON!! Gary/Hk
"Paul Smith repaired alot of guitars and cataloged what he saw worked and what wasn't working". That tells me alot about this guy and his product. He's seen woods, electronics and hardware. I trust his ideas and really want one of these guitars at some point.
This is actually so true, when i got my custom 24 it just immediately felt right, unlike all the ibanez prestiges and jacksons i tried. ( i do have an ibanez rg7 iron label that i like a lot though but it doesnt touch my prs)
The 1 thing i would change about the guitar is the glossy finish on the neck. Satin finish is a million times better.
+GetScaredGaming Satin necks on any guitar whether acoustic or electric are undeniably better. No matter if you sweat or not, the neck on a gloss finish neck will always get sticky and uncooperative at some point. Even satin finish necks can get cumbersome sometimes...
Also, if paying for a PRS at over $1000, I'd try to get it with a satin neck, not ruin a well made guitar for things like that... but to each their own.
Oh, I disagree 100%. A glossy finished neck feels so much better to me, sweaty hands or not. I also play with Fender tortoise shell picks rather than Dunlop Tortex. I simply prefer smooth over rough, even if it means being a bit stickier when wet.
Satin is smooth... much smoother than gloss, but like I said in an earlier post, to each their own!

Well I have a 1998 PRS Custom 22. Haven´t played guitars for a long time, moved to bass in my current band, but daamn... This video made me nostalgic about my PRS so I grabbed it, played a bit and WTF - stayed in the case for like 2 years and hell, the guitar stayed perfectly tuned. Just in time guy said about the "neck job", omg, you guys do it right, keep on!

@@arthurias7693 it's not inefficient if it's the only way the product comes out the way you intend it to. That's perfectly efficient.
It is not inefficient. Only the first neck took one month of downtime so to speak. When you do multiple necks at once and start every day a new process you end up with enough supply. Don't see the problem here.
@@delamar6199 Totally agree - its obviously not an issue because there are 'necks' in various stages of the build but there are ALWAYS necks ready to put into the body. Its only inefficient if the bodies are sat waiting for a neck - holding up the production line. If they fit 10 necks a day (for example), you ensure you start 10 necks a day and finish 10 necks a day and move 10 necks a day through to the next stage so that you always finish 10 necks a day and always have Necks ready to be mated so there is never a body waiting for a neck and you also don't need to make 20 necks a day, finish 20 necks a day either because those extra 10 that aren't being fitted a day ends up with 70 necks at the end of the week which take up space. If they can make 20 a day, then its better to move a person on to a different process, maybe to mating necks so you balance the loss of a neck maker with an extra person mating necks. The right balance though should be equal through out - make 10 necks, fit 10 necks fret 10 necks, spray 10 guitars, make and fit hardware to 10 guitars, set up 10 guitars and case 10 guitars for shipping - that's perfect efficiency...
10 btw is illustrative - it maybe 10 PRS Custom 24's a day + 15 Silver Sky Guitars a day etc but the principal applies
People knocking this tour and saying it's an advertisement are just pissed because they don't have this level of dedication and enthusiasm about their job. I own a Gretsch White Falcon and Kramer Pacer Series/American and dismissed PRS previously but now I have more respect for this company after learning they take a month just to make the neck.

having had a few guitars...you get what you pay for, like many things. Haven't had a prs,but have a custom shop gibson and j craft ibanez and they are my go to's every time...if i ever got a prs, it would be another go to
i was there in 1986 at namm when ted nuggent jump up on the paul reed smith table at namm and proclaimed to the world heres the amazing paul reed smith guitar and screemed out leads and said it slices it dices it will even xoxox your girl friend,Ted what a sales man and of course what a guitar ! some were i got pics of him too prove it too stares right at me too !

Well, finish make a difference. A have a Fender JB Strat with a really bad finish... it began to split off the body, and than i took it all away it was amazingly huge improvement in sound.
I'm pleased with PRS quality. I have a guitar made in 1992, and I literally need to do nothing to it, save changing string and cleaning the smudge out of it. It is still perfect and plays perfect, with all its dents it got in these years :)
Interesting how they say it takes a month to make a neck. You cut it and it moves, you cut it again and it moves. Sounds like you need to dry/store your wood longer before using it. Steinway dries their wood for 2 years before using it.
Mark , a Steinway is 10k. A PRS is 2 or 3k. Secondly, they keep it in a kiln for at least 6 months. They know WTF they’re doing I think.

The PRS Santana SE (first year) was best playing guitar I have had. Best neck and feel. Pickups were a little weak but could be swapped for better ones, same for a few other minor components. Asthectically it didn't fit my project at the time so I had to let it go. I know, lame, but they always looks too modern or metal for what I do. Can't imagine how great the top dollar PRS play. Love the passion. I love my Tele, but I think this is the best guitar company today.
I've owned a number of PRS's, and have always been dubious about marketing claims that things 'keep getting better'. Until last week I had a 1991 Custom 24, a Les Paul Traditional and a 2005 Private Stock McCarty 22, but needed to release some cash. From the proceeds I bought a new Gibson Custom Shop R9 and a new PRS 'Paul's Guitar'. The R9 is a massive improvement over my Gibson Traditional... but the biggest shock I had was comparing 'Paul's Guitar' to the Private Stock. Leaving aside the decorative 14-carat bird inlays and Brazilian-rosewood, I have to say that I prefer my new US PRS to an older Private Stock model... it's so vibrant, it literally sings even before I plug it in. I actually regret letting my 91 Custom 24 go far more than the Private Stock, but needs must. On the Gibson-front, I'd say that the Custom-Shop are now turning out some quality reissues, but if I were down to two guitars - 'Paul's Guitar' and my Gibson Custom-Shop R9 - and had to choose between them in terms of feel and connection rather than residual value, I'd keep the PRS in less than a heart-beat. It would be a tough battle between the PRS and my '59 Les Paul Junior though.

Seeing this video after watching the video of a factory tour at Gibson, I am definitely sold into PRS guitars! much much more hand labor compare to Gibson which it seems more machine made. This video just helps me to set my mind.

yes it sound pretty impressive to spend a month on a neck, but really it starts with proper drying of the wood 6 to 8 percent from there the neck blanks need to be sticker, along with the plant being at the proper humidity. This is what keeps wood stable. More of a sales tactic then anything.
my thing is, since i've owned a core PRS, then an SE and an S2 (since the SE and S2 are nowhere close to the core guitars) prs shouldn't brag about how long it they take to make a stable neck when they skimp on alot of other details which cause the vast difference in their great core guitars and the SE and S2.
I like my SE better than the S2 I owned...(which I took back for refund and bought an American Standard Shawbucker Strat...the strat is a BETTER guitar for less money than the S2 custom 24). The S2 just felt cheap in my hands compared to the core PRS guitars, and the Strat ...yeah the pickups on the S2 were hot but they were too hot for the body thickness...they were very shrill and noisy...damn most annoying pickups i've ever owned.
By the way my SE had to be sent to Maryland for warranty issues, it's been up there for over a month and I haven't heard anything from their customer service rep in weeks, he had previously said they'd ship it back last week...wow.

So want a PRS as my first ever electric and then a Rickenbacker for that beatles vintage 50s',60's sound. All prs models are beautifully made but I gotta get me one with a wammy.

I have a 2015 Paul Reed Smith SC Standard S2. It needed a setup out of the box and when I took it to My guitar tech. (One of the best in town, btw) he was quite surprised just how much he had to adjust to make it right.. This is also the second Paul Reed Smith that I've owned, and on both of them my toggle switch for the pickup selector has had issues. I'm not impressed by Paul Reed Smith guitars one bit.

A craftsman in china/Korea will cost X amount (wages) a person in USA will cost more per week then there is the quality of materials used in USA and those other places. Overall the cost of a PRS might be high but it is helping to keep people in work, as for the profit per guitar well that is the very nature of business, to make money

what's the big deal with people saying they are overpriced? you can buy a brand new PRS for 3 or 4 grand. not bad considering how beautiful these instruments are.
Yep spend 600 for a Epiphone or Fender Squire and they may last 5 years. A PRS will last a lifetime. In the long run a PRS is a steal. In 30 years you will still have a wonderful guitar worth more than you paid for it. I have several Sig and limited edition models from late 80's and early 90's and they are still the best guitars I have ever owned. No finish checking, never any neck work or electronic problems. When I start to sell off my collection, these will be the last to go.
Brian Connell Any guitar made in USA will out last that Chinese and foreign junk. These guys have a love for being craftsmen and building guitars. Those Chinese don't give a shit, as long as they get their 50 cents in the sweat shop.

@@brianconnell6848 Well. that makes me feel better..!! I just bought a PRS McCarty 594. Absolutely thrilled. Hearing these cats going off was hard to hear. Thinking maybe.......they would really want one. That guitar seems to know my next move and is right there, bang!! I was doing licks in 3min of playing it and the Fender American Pro Strat I also recently bought just doesn't have that same response.

How good do the Indonesian PRS guitars compare to Made in America?
I own a 50th anniversary american strat and a 1999 Gibson les paul. I’m sorry to say, but my PRS’s run circles around both of them. I can’t explain why, because fender and Gibson have decades of perfection. If you don’t own a prs, you are literally missing out.
My wife, who knows nothing of guitars, asked me to best describe PRS guitars. I said.... PRS is the Apple company of guitars. 1. The detail and quality in and out. 2. It just works. 3. Paul is the Steve Jobs of guitars..... he is way ahead of the pack.

PRS is so heavily dedicated to QA/QC, legend says that PRSh inspects tree seeds to insure that only the highest quality seeds get planted.
My 2000 left handed custom 22 is the only guitar in my large collection of quality guitars that I play.

true the paint matters give me break don't get me wrong prs are awesome guitars but paint matters it going to effect the tone. someone needs to lay of the chronic.
these are build way better then gibson. Go watch how gibsons are made and how they lumberjack the neck to fit it in so quickly.. wow im surprised. this actually makes me rethink of maybe buying one, one day, especially over a gibson. But i'll stick with cheaper guitars for now

What he's saying is PRS are very selective about which trees they use and in fact own their own plantations, whereas other companies take whatever wood they can get. Hope this helps you understand.

sooo, from what i hear, the SE versions of PRS are all the same woods, same build technique, same electronics, but are sent across seas and built the same way basically to save production costs, then sent back to PRS in the US to have their Quality controll tecs, set up and inspect/approve these guitars before sending them to vendors yo be sold as 1/3 the cost.. does anyone have any validation to this??
No this is incorrect. They are great guitars, but are not made of the same mahogany. Also the figured maple top instead of being a 3/4" cap like an american prs is a very thin veneer on top of plain maple. Now the s2 lines to the best of my knowledge are made in the stevensville factory, and are made of the same woods as the core line, but use import hardware. Hope this helps.

As an owner of both USA artist package and a SE you can't go wrong with the SE I LOVE that guitar. Upgraded the trem and pickups and it's amazing.

so, i played the Zach Myers SE and a american custom 24, I chose the Zach Myers SE. Why? well the $3,900 pricetag was sure tempting over the $650 model, NOT. but honestly, i liked how the SE felt, and honestly sounded better than the 24 and was actually alot lighter as well.. if i was going to spend that much on a guitar, i would buy a Ernie Ball Music Man JP model.. but ill tell ya. i love the SE. Hands down the best bang for the buck!

Does the "Quilted" Maple wood come from a certain part of the tree vs the other tops in the PRS lineup? Different tree?
Most figuring is actually a 'disease' a tree has. Flamed and quilted maple aren't any different from regular maple, but occur mostly in softer maple varieties. So maple is a name that describes a variety of trees, some of them are more likely to be figured than others, but flamed maple or quilting isn't from a single variety.

What glue does PRS use on their necks? The bottle near the neck guy looked like fish glue.

Dude that guy has performed every job in that plant at one time or another - he knows his stuff. I do not own a PRS, but when I do, I will know my money is buying something worth every penny. That process of building guitars is for real. I have a cheaper guitar and it changes like the weather.
He has done it before. It was him and Paul in a small shop building guitars by hand.
