    why did the Busch series switch the engines in the cars?

      I think because it was more expensive using V6's instead of V8's

      Good Thing That Those V-6 Engines That The NASCAR Busch Grand National Series Used Since 1982 Are Gone.

      V-8 358s (same block as Cup) with only a 9:1 compression ratio. Cheaper, last much longer. The V6s for some reason were much more fragile, many blew, many engine changes and rebuilds. NASCAR thought they were the wave of the future but they were a hassle and they just ran their course.
      Neil Bonnett quipped: "I think the guy who invented the V6 invented the engine hoist too. He must've thought the hoist needed more work."
