With some extra work you can get the filter a lot closer to the side intake, done the same on mine.

Has it still got the mr2 gearbox on?? Sounds like it's dropping out of lift after every gear??

Yes it does drop out of lift in every gear old 5 speed mr2 bod on there. its blown up again anyway now so i will be getting a six speed when i fix this
