    I worked for 27 years in a big corporate job with nice cloths and shoes . When I retired they wanted to give me a watch . I politely advised - a fancy watch would be wasted on me - , the National manager in frustration told my secretary " Oh buy him whatever he wants " . At the big dinner in a fancy restaurant they presented me , to the horror of other patrons , a new Husky saw . I was SO happy !!

    I bought a 550 xp mark II autotune on Monday.... I was hoping it would work as good as my old 254 xp that lasted 20 years... WELL... I went in the woods today with it and couldn't believe with an 18" bar it works even better than my old 254... I am totally amazed..... money well spent

    Always a pleasure to watch and listen to you as you explain the workings of the various saws and gear, and watching you put the saws through their paces. The dedication you have and the time you spend to make sure your viewers understand what you are saying shows that you love what you do.

    I bought a 550 XP about 4 years ago and haven't started it yet. It's to nice of a saw to clear brush with and haven't had time or anything substantial to cut to use it. This is making me itch to go crank it up. I like the color scheme on the older one better, more gray contrasts.
    When I bought it I was looking on eBay and there were guys who had these saw built and beefed up as "hot saw" for $1400.

    I have 2 "old model" 550XPs with ported mufflers and they scream. I don't pick up my 70cc saw near as much anymore unless I'm falling larger trees of cutting stumps. I run 18" bars on mine but may have to get a MarkII and have some work done on it and run a 20 with it.

    I got a 20 inch bar on a 550xp. Found the balance off, used a hole saw and lightened it up now the balence is perfect but the holes do cause a problem. In a full bar cut you have to pull it out to empty the sawdust from the holes. Or it will bind. When limbing softwood sticks can catch in the holes. I still use it and like the 20 inches. Seems to be better on my back than a shorter bar. I have learnt to live with it. I have an 18 inch solid bar for it but still like the 20.

    Love my 550, but it's not the new series that just came out. Best firewood saw ever had next to the older 346 saw. I gave up running my 562, worst saw I ever had. Cuts fine when its running, but you never want to run it out of gas. You'll pull your guts out trying to restart it. Maybe there is a trick to it, but if any of them don't start in 5 pulls,I just get another out of the truck that will.

    I had the first gen 562xp. the saw ran great maybe the best engine power going. The problem I had with it was the chain tensioner, after a few hours the plastic cover over the worm gear would flex and it wouldnt hold tension. The plastic they use is flimsy seems like bar oil reacted and degraded it, also they used one little encie tiency screw to hold the cover on, I tried to give feed back on going to nylon and 2 screws but no one listened. Now I see they went to a bigger screw but the same cheap weak plastic. Why in the heck make such a high performance engine but skimp on the tensioner design? Echo uses a thin steel plate, no problem with keeping the chain tight. I can't get work done with a loose chain so until I see Husqvqrna resolve that issue, won't buy it again.

    I just got my 550mk2 last week, took down an ash tree the other day and I was impressed with the speed which it revs up.
    Mine is 15” and I reckon 18” is pretty optimum for this saw. I think the 20” and above should be the 572xp power unit as it loads more balls to power the saw.

    Tim...I am really surprised that with that length bar they didn't send their new .325 X-Cut (SP33) chain and narrow kerf bar. It is a narrow kerf chain and I am guessing if you install that on your saw with their narrow kerf .325 bar you will be amazed at the difference. It is so much faster in cutting as it doesn't require as much power to cut so the chain speed stays up there. (I use it on my Dolmar 5105 50cc saw with an 18" Oregon narrow kerf bar and it will cut with my MS362 in limbs up to about 10"). I like the comment about ink on both arms for Husky and Milwaukee! You've earned the right to get swag from both companies IMHO. My bad. Apparently Husqvarna and Oregon don't make a .325 narrow kerf 20" bar for this saw!

      @cotontop3  5 лет назад

      @@cotontop3 Tim...Husky and Oregon both have the bars in 18" narrow kerf. Oregon has an aluminum cored bar they call a Speedcut. I've got about twenty cords on mine and it is still going strong. (Word of caution for all the haters...it is made in China.) For the loss of 2" in bar length you will be absolutely blown away in the increase in cutting speed. Love your videos.

    My 550 xp came with an 18 inch bar. I put a 20 inch .325 lite bar on it and it just handles that 20 inch bar so we'll that I bet it could handle a 24 inch bar with the right operator behind it. I love this saw. It quit running last fall and I bought another one with a 20 inch bar. I put a carburetor kit in my old one and now I love them both. We put a tach on my old saw and it runs over 14000 rpm, it is a screamer. I also have Stihl and Echo saws that are good saws, but I love my Husqvarna saws. I just got 550 gen 1 from Jack's last week. I'm sure Husky made improvements with the new one but I wanted the older model that's almost 1 lb lighter than the Gen II. I ran it this past weekend and was very satisfied. I weighed it full of fluids and with an 18" bar n chain, a non-digital scale showed just about 14 lbs, power head alone is 10.8 on paper and my scale showed something shy of 11 so i think that's right.

    Don’t think the outboard clutch moves the bar and chain any closer to the saw, I think they say it moves the clutch away from the heat of the engine which helps it last longer as well as keeps it from heating that side of the cylinder. On Stihls or saws without outboard clutches the clutch is onboard I.e it’s inside the saw body so the sprocket is in the same place

    You have very good reviews. The one problem I have with all of your reviews is whin you start your saw you Do Not Let Them Warm Up !!!! This causes engine problems down the road. The piston and cylinder needs to warm up. Murphy Law my friend ! Otherwise good reviews ! I am a retired engine machanic by trade...

      That is because I have already had the saw running before I start the camera filming. Thanks for watching.

    Them dudes are zippy as can be. Responsive, quick off idle and very powerful for a 50cc saw. Great limber or thinning saw. Use one daily and love it

      have you run a 357 xp non x torq...wondering how it compares

      Not familiar with a 357 but I used to use a 346xp and the 550 would eat it alive

    Shes beautiful. I really like the look of that metal case. Today I just got a Stihl 261 and the specs on this husky look pretty compareable.

    • @green-zone36
      @green-zone36 3 года назад +2

      I have both. The 261 is a very nice saw and seems a little smoother and a little more torque and slower chain speed. If you like a screaming demon, the 550 is the saw. I think I like 550 a little better.

    Give that chain about 3 months of running until it's about worn out then you'll really make it eat.

    I've run Stihl over 25 years, but that saw would make me buy a Husky.

    Great video ! I have a favor to ask you, I’m in the process of getting a 550XP MARK 2, since I don’t live close to a Husqvarna dealer, I need to know the precise length of the saw including the 20 inches bar, from one end to the other. I have custom made boxes for my saws, and I want to make sure it would fit in it. Thanks in advance, cheers !

    Think a bar and chain off a 372 would fit?

  • @TheScottsatisfaction

    Will it start more than 22 times? Unlike like 562XP I bought for 850 bucks.....Ya the one that melted down after only 3hrs 59 minutes. The one I was forced to fix for409 bucks or eat as a 850 dollar paper weight. Is it better than that??

    Hey Tim I got to thinkin. What's your thoughts on taking one of those cookies you cut and get someone to burn tdk logging or cotontop3 on it with the Husqvarna Logo or something like that with it.

    Kind of heavy for a 50cc saw. Did run well for a new saw. Not a fan of the outboard clutch. Why do they have saws with both inboard and outboard clutches?
