Andy, you make it all so easy looking. I know what kind of skill you need for even an easy build. The painting. All the little steps you take for a great end product. Great looking Tank.
I remember as a kid I never had the patience to build these and paint them. I'd just slap them together and play with them unpainted and poorly assembled
It's funny that everything that you put on seems to go on just perfect. I remember when I was doing builds about 15 or so years ago, my experience wasn't always so smooth. My eyesight has gotten so bad that I can no longer work with such small details now. I miss building military models. I did enjoy the video and look forward to watching the rest. I just started watching your channel and am starting from the oldest and working my way through to your latest videos. Keep doing these great builds.
Andy mentioned he liked the kit so much he might do another. So I dropped my project list to do this kit. Definitely a 10 out of 10. Fun, great detail and amazing fit. I added the tamiya pe grill set. Well worth the cost. IMO best kit on the market.
Thank you for the video, the tank goes together very well. Hitler delayed the Kursk offensive for weeks because he wanted these Panther D tanks to take part. When they did finally arrive, half of them broke down between the railhead and the front line. They were woefully overweight and had been rushed into production. Would be akin to taking the engine out of a mini... and placing it into a Volvo and expecting it to perform the same. Meanwhile the Russians had extra weeks to prepare... the rest as they say.. is history. Glad to see Tamiya producing a quality kit such as this. Thanks again for taking the time to exhibit the build.
One of the famed battles waged by the Panther is the one against the new Soviet JS II heavy tank on the eastern front. The Panther at that time, was the main strength tank of the Gross Deutschland, the strongest German Mechanized Division, under the command of General Hasso Von Manteuffel. The Panther reportedly destroyed 350 JS II tanks and 20 other armored vehicles in the battle. It was a complete one-sided victory for the Panther and one for the book of military history. The Panther, therefore, was an extremely balanced tactical tank and should be called a masterpiece destined to bear the last glory of German war technology. It's glorious name will forever remain in the records of the 2nd World War.
Hi. Great video! I've been modeling for 30 years or so and I found your technique inspiring. Of course the current generation of Tamiya kits helps a lot when one tries to re-connect with the simple joy of model building. The video itself is very well done. I would refer people to your video as an example how one should shoot a unboxing as well as demo of just how simple model building can be. One suggestion, include the boxes of any aftermarket products in your opening shot during the unboxing. Liked and subscribed.
Ostrich Longneck Thank you, actually it was the first time I have tried it and it does really work , it shows up even better in person. I am building a Tiger 1 with zim and the black base coat worked really well with zimmerit, the first video is up on it and I have started making the second. Thanks for watching .
What a great kit! My second build was zvezda panther ausf D and it built up pretty nicely, almost as nicely as tamiyas' one. But i goofed the camo pattern up, because i tried to use general store bought acrylic paints on it which do not grip on plastic unless you don't thin them out and use them straight out of the tube and they are very thick so the paint job covered up most of the details. I mean, for a second kit i've ever built it still looks mighty fine but after i completed my tiger i ausf e and painted it with tamyia dunkelgelb, i realized just how much it is worth spending $3.50 on a quality paint imstead of spending same amount of money on a pack of shitty paints
Stan, I just built a Panther D myself but I did not clear coat it before decals. Should I clear coat it before weathering than once again after I'm done. Thanks, Joe
Hi Andy, fantastic videos and just coming back to modelling. Could you please clarify what you spray on after painting. Do you say "dull coat", i cant make out what you are saying, some od your vids you say gloss coat and then do a "dull coat" but i dont know if you are saying something else like "dough coat or do coat". If its a paint what code/name is it please?
nice build, I'm getting the kit soon, I see just a few problems with the kit, should be an easy fix though, like your weathering, the panther was new in battle, so a ton of chipping would be wrong.
hi nice Video !! my english is not so good ,because i am from Germany. i mean the set is very nice and the diorams is very good see you modellbau freak munich
Hey Andy! Wonderful videos! I really enjoy them and they are a great resource to look back on as I build my models! I had an idea however, would it be possible to put a list of the paints you used on each model in the description? I know you talk through them in the video, but i was thinking for a quick reference kind of thing! Keep up the great work!
HI Andy. On your final buff coat, what mixture ratio of paint and thinner do you use to get that great transparent blending? Also, what ratio do you use to thin down the Tamiya paints to let the Nato black pre-shading come through so well? Thanks in advance.
I have bought the same kit as my first airbrush project. Thanks for showing some interesting airbrushing technique. I see that you paint with the wheels installed. Would the paint "reach behind" the wheels adequately? Or maybe it doesn't matter as the wheels cover that area anyway? How about the wheels themselves, since they stagger and some parts of them would not be visible anyway unless you look real close? Is there any advantage or disadvantage with spraying the wheels separately? Thanks.
Deadlox 9? Dang, i started playing tank games when i was 6... that was 7 years ago, keep building buddy! One day u will remember this positive comment! ;)
Andy, I am really interested in doing a Kursk Panther ausf D. Is the RBM35B006 the right barrel for this kit? I have no clue about armor, and you have become a great inspiration to get me back into modeling from a thirty year hiatus.
Excellent video and build/paint. One question....why is there such a large gap between the hull and turret rear? It's pretty prominent in the video...... Or is it just not seated properly?
Tamiya need to up their game , you can purchase Meng etc with PE Grills , metal barrels etc for almost the same price . They need to do some Tigers Panthers with Zimmerit too .
It appears that you don't employ special precautions (gloves, washing parts) to prevent hand oil contamination that might impede paint adhesion. Or, do you take steps to address this issue off screen? Thanks.
Nice video, I have buy this Panther too. But I don't understand something, why are you using in first time black paint? its to make an effect on plastic ? Because in your video with the flak panzer you didn't use it, you take directly the "basic" color of panzer when they leave factory. Sorry for my english, I'm French^^ Great job again :)
Andy, first off let me say Merry Christmas, I have a question, I am planning to build a dio and I need a destroyed tank, can u make a tutorial on how to do that, please it would help alot. Great model, keep it up :)
Hi Andy, hi everyone. Where can I buy a 10x10 inch sheet of old wooden flooring? I bought a replica 1/16 die cast old John deer model A tractor with tools etc. Want to display..thanks Wade
Very very nice! You also give an informative review which is appreciated. A question, why isn't the turret seated down properly? Is the weight of the metal barrel lifting the back of the turret? If so, is there that much play between the turret ring and the hull? Perhaps a fishing weight glued inside the back of the turret will counter the barrel leverage.
Really, you couldn't repeat what you found and left me to read through a gazillion replies (and no, I do not exaggerate; he he). I'll go by Andy's response that he did not have it seated properly; but someone else was pretty adamant it is a flaw with the kit. Even if it is an engineering problem with the kit, it can always be fixed with a little work. Thanks for letting me know they already discussed it. Take care.
Aww, sorry about that! I trust that Andy was telling the truth and there is not a problem with the kit. I never experienced any trouble with Tamiya's engineering.
+gruppenfuhrer45 yeah I'm sorry about the camo I wanted to keep the video kind of short , but my newer video like the one on the tiger 1 show more detail on camo job, thanks for watching.
+Andy's Hobby Headquarters wow ! nice video, and a great looking panzer V ! i even love the soundtrack, beethovens 9th- die ode an die freude (ode to joy) . great model, great music. you've just earned yourself a new subscriber !
How do you get the metal barrel to stick to the model? I know that the kit supplied barrel is styrene, not metal, so what is the technique you used to get the metal barrel to attach? Thanks.
would you b able to use desert yellow instea od dark yellow for this kit because I hve one but I'm not sure if I could get away with using desert yellow
I always enjoy your builds!! Thanks for posting them! I have a question. You gloss it then dull it. Can I ask what you use to dull it? The gloss seals the finish and decals right? The dull takes away the gloss sheen and gives it some "patina"? Just very curious in how you dull it. Thanks in advance!!
+Kopfjaeger39 Hi , yes I gloss first this is mainly to seal the paint and any decals need a shinny surface so they don't silver up on edges. After that I seal the decals and the whole kit with dull coat , I usually use Tamiya TS80. The flat evens everything out and then I mist the entire tank with Tamiya xf 56 buff this lights everything a little and takes the last little bit of sheen off. Also when the decals are sealed between clearcoat they hold up better.
Hey Andy, do you always shoot the model first with flat black? I'm doing a Panther D but is was made by Dragon and there are tons of tiny parts that are used to put it together. It looks good. I wish they had the Tamiya one. the Tiger II I did was from Tamiya and I do like their models. again thank you for the video.

+Renagaderussian hi, you can make a antenna by stretching sprue with heat .I have a earlier video that shows you how ruclips.net/video/Z1YjmiWyvl4/видео.html
I started taking time with models when I was about 20 years old, I'm 56 now and still at it.
Uh oh...I just go my first Tank model today for my 20th bday

Thank you for this vid - I have always wanted a Panther D and your build shows what we can expect to get from Tamiya's version of this vehicle!
The glorious 9th, oh such bliss while building a model. :-)
This is great! Keep the tank models coming!

Germans were advancing through Russians lines at the battle but Hitler called back his force after allied troops landed in Italy.

You should make body putty welding seams on the front where the hulls come together.

milky55way2012 Hi yeah, the turret was not locked in when the picture was taken . I didn't notice it until after I did video.
Tamiya need to up their game , you can purchase Meng etc with PE Grills , metal barrels etc for almost the same price . They need to do some Tigers Panthers with Zimmerit too .

noo! the classic music just fits in :D
Colton Mansour just respect him thats what he wants.even my mother plays old music because it reminds their memories.

+Bunny I use super glue
+Andy's Hobby Headquarters thanks for the advice Andy!
Hello Andy, does this kit come with Zimmerit as the model D versions should be late war, and therefore need to have it... could you confirm?
+NapFloridian Hi no this kit does not have zimmerit in it but early D's did not have zimmerit on them
Thanks Andy, helpful as always
would you b able to use desert yellow instea od dark yellow for this kit because I hve one but I'm not sure if I could get away with using desert yellow

very nice how can i paint a panther ausf a without a airbrush?
Invincible thanks!
Can you paint it without the aerografe?
Hey Andy, do you always shoot the model first with flat black? I'm doing a Panther D but is was made by Dragon and there are tons of tiny parts that are used to put it together. It looks good. I wish they had the Tamiya one. the Tiger II I did was from Tamiya and I do like their models. again thank you for the video.
yes usually I will shot it with black for a shadow coat
I saw you do that in another video. So I'm trying it on this next model to see how it turned out.
On a side note. The tiger two i did I washed it with a light sand and a Kursk dust wash and it really dulled the camo and it looked great. Very pleased with it.
Thank you for the reply.
Hi Andy, nice video. I do enjoy your videos :) Just a short question here, what kind of Tamiya colour you're using for the camo scheme? Are they XF-61 dark green and XF-64 red brown recommended by Tamiya? Because if I'm not mistaken, you once used the NATO brown instead the red brown for one of the German vehicles (forgot which videos).
+Fulong Su yes I usually use nato brown and nato green instead I think they look better
+Andy's Hobby Headquarters Gotcha, okay, will try using those colours for my next kit, thanks Andy :)
good stuff ;-)
What is your paint-thinner ratio with Tamiya?
What's size nozzle you use on your airbrush?
Hey, I'm very new to modelling, what do you use when you say you "dull coated" it?
Bill Austin ok so u commented this 3 years ago so I assume by now u have either given up on modeling, figured it out, or just moved on lol, but I felt bad that there was no response so basically the full coat is Tamiya TS-80, it seals in the paint that way the shine is taken out, and the paint doesn’t get messed up when you weather it
do you ship to England?
Does the model have the glue in it
Is this comparable in scale to a Leman Russ?
I do not understand why Tamiya has never put the the D hull, G road wheels, and G early turret in a box and released a "updated" Ausf A kit
Did u glue the road wheels on?
you should build more planes
i wonder can it be possible to make it roll
Is it very fragile? Or is it one of those builds when you touch a tiny part it comes off?
No its pretty durable .
Andy's Hobby Headquarters is there a way to ask questions other than on RUclips? Like an email?
Amazing
+John Blessing Thank you
Why is the turret like tilting forward like that? Is it because of the metal barrel?
+James Ingram No when I took the photo I didn't realize the turret was seated properly

What colour paint did you use for drybrushing?
nato black xf67
