Sweet collection Tim! I love my 3 3/4 Speyco and use my Hardy Marquis Sal 1 and 2. How ever I reeeely want one of those Iwana multiplier reels like you have.
I think a good spey reel must be caged, and quick released arbor. Inevitably, long thin tippet easily run out of the cage and get tangle in that interspace before start fishing. If you don't carry that tools for release the reel arbor,or the little locking nut dropped into river unfortunately, everything is over.So the quick released arbor is really helpful for tippet and running line quickly troubleshooting. And a large arbor is necessary,it make the running line bend a large diameter, help drcrease the shooting resistance and less tangles.
Nice collection! Been really happy with my Danielsson L5W 6nine. It is tough, reliable and has functioned as a trout spey reel as well as overhead switch/single hand rod off the beach and jetty for coho and rock fish. I currently have it on an echo OHS for tight quarter swinging. Good bang for your buck, get it salty, fall on it, to prob, you don't have to baby it. Holding up extremely well. It's for hunting fish, not for see and be seen occasions. Nice video, Cheers!
hey I love the reels, Im a hardy man. but love the loops, I have one of the early models. Just added a Maxcatch 7 spey with a hardy st andrew. love the channel
I’m glad you made this video because I’m always wondering about your rig. I’m a beginner so I have only two reels. I have an Orvis SSR IV and an Orvis Clearwater trout Spey. They both perform just fine.
Thank you for this video. I have been trying to find a spey reel for my rod that was big enough. Your video was very helpful. What is the model name for the Loop reel? I have never heard of iwana reels before. I looked at them and this might be a good fit for me. Which size Iwana reel would you recommend for a Great Lakes steelhead guy. Was yours the wide size?
Mine is a wide. I have a narrow, new, I’m selling…I’m a dealer now. Discount for subscribers. I have some cool options I can send you. Send me contact info if interested!
Hey Tim, I was looking at the Opti Megaloop and Speedrunner. I hope you can tell me what rod you think the Megaloop balances well. I have a 13'1" 6 wt and 13'7" 7 wt Beulah Onyx. Also, you provide me more info on how to purchase an Iwana reel through you and what you have available?
The Mega loop isnt terribly heavy, I use it on 1307-4 Loop 7 X, Guideline Lecie 13'7" 8/9. Might be a tad big on the 6 weight but I'd use it. The speed running is a tad small though it might be ok on the 6 weight.
I end up just using normal trout reels (have 4 spectrum LTs) up a size on my 3 wt, 5, 8, 10wt 11' switch rods. I guess since I don't have any "real" spey rods I don't need as much counter balance. I also do a decent amount of OH casting with my rods if I'm at the beach so the light reel helps there. Do you think I could get away with a light reel on something like a 13' 7wt?
Absolutely. I end up with a reel that's a bit light for the rod I just hold two fingers on the upper grip and a couple on the blank. Like you say, the lighter reels may help with hand speed, so its not a game changer at all
I love that reel! Permfect Trout Spey reel but I crashed with it too many times and it was sadly getting a little dinged up. Now I'm kicking myself for letting it go. Might try to get it back!
Check out Frodenflies That guys got some nice stuff Kind of like the loop classic but cheaper Also I’m loving the Remington Behemoth s for the salt their not caged but works well with integrated running line
Hi buddy 😁 Oh well! What reel depends on the rod and fish I'm hunt for. Rainbow trout and brown trout I say Hardy marquis or Bougle. For sea trout I say Hardy perfect and a Norwegian made reel Hörgårds laxesnelle 4 1/4" And Young & son 1535 &1540. For Atlantic salmon the best brake ever the Bringse'n salmon antireverse that reel is 10 OZ ink backing and shootingline made of 6061 aircraft aluminium. A reel I'm had forgot that I had sense the 80s the scientific Anglers System 2 The 10/11# and 12/13# those has diskdrag and I love those a lot. For big and hot Steelhead I say the Bringse'n salmon it's just the best drag made of cork and teflon even whit max drag it still go out whit no harshness at all ! And next big fish reel the Vision Tank5 it's full cage and fit 350yd backing plus 160ft shootingline and a fat long skagit head. That's a beast of reel ! But most joy and feelings I say Hardy perfect 4" the old 1930s MKII system. Hardy light waight for a 9' single hand rod it's just perfect there. That's my choice..... Good continue to 2025 😇
@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins Yes I use it for small rivers and trout and sea trout here in Sweden. And it has good drag and medium clicker sound ! It not close to a Hardy or the swedish Bringse'n reel. Had some tough about the Iwana spey reel. You see when we fish 😉
Interesting video, another one or two on rods and lines would be interesting as well. Thanks.
Hi Tim, I have JW young and Sons 1560 multiflyer. Nice reel.
Have 3 of the Sage Speys including one of the new Sage II Speys for both Winter and Summer rigs. Great video as always!
I like a lot Danielsson , extremely solid reels .
thanks for that!
I love my Danielsson reels. Landed many big atlantics, steelhead, kings, cohos. Never met a fish that could outrun a Danielsson.
Some fine reels, Tim. I've got two of the 1540's myself, one branded by JW Young, and the other as a Shakespeare Beaulite.
Tough reels - very cool
Sweet collection Tim! I love my 3 3/4 Speyco and use my Hardy Marquis Sal 1 and 2. How ever I reeeely want one of those Iwana multiplier reels like you have.
Man that's awesome! Iwana's are the best! So to speak!

I’m an Abel fan boy…all my reels are able Spey/switches😊
Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year 2025! Loop Evotec reels have been very good to me.
cool buddy! thanks!
hey I love the reels, Im a hardy man. but love the loops, I have one of the early models. Just added a Maxcatch 7 spey with a hardy st andrew. love the channel
right on! thanks!
I have 4 Speyco reels, they’re bullet proof and are my preferred reels of choice.
great reply!

Great to hear! thanks for the feedback!
Thanks, could you discuss your different rods too❤
Sure thing!
Lol....your Bougle looks great...except try putting some backing on it😂
thanks!🤣
Hardy Ultradisk 9000 & Lamson Liquid 9+, use coated shooting line, fishabilty & line control, love low stretch, for hook sets
Thanks Tom, I'm leaning more toward coated shooting lines myself lately

What about your Hardy Bouglé Heritage Olympic. Do you still fish it?
I love that reel! Permfect Trout Spey reel but I crashed with it too many times and it was sadly getting a little dinged up. Now I'm kicking myself for letting it go. Might try to get it back!
@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins The 3 1/2 inch is also great for trout spey. Use it on a 3 weight. The Olympic will find her place on a 5 weight I think.
