This scene was shot on one floor, so while they’re in the “elevator”, the crew was resetting the set so that when they step outside, it looks like they’re on another floor of the building.
That this was done without hidden cuts or digital effects makes it all the more impressive. John Woo did a tense one-take action sequence decades before Daredevil and whatnot.
It's a shame that younger generations who grew up with the shaky cam, cut every other second action movies won't understand the hard work, dedication, and the vision that Woo and the actors put in to making this. 40 days it took them to make less than 3 minutes of pure, uncut action.
@@Anthonycheesman33 True, the new trend now is the long take action scene (Atomic Blonde, Spectre, The Rhythm Section etc). While still overbearing and tiring to watch, it's easily preferable to the shaky cam nonsense we had to endure for an entire decade.
I still like gareth evans style of shaky cam though..Like The Raid 2 and Gangs of London..he does it in way that the action feels visceral without getting lost
We got John Wick, excellent choreography and well done camera work. Sorry you don't realize your generation had just as much garbage as we do now that time forgot and will forget.
I'm sorry but this wasn't one take/shot as many claim, you can see a cut occur at 1:04 as the camera is panning from the shooting victim and the cop :(

That scene is still very impressive. You really gotta hand it to the 2 actors and the special effects people for pulling this off.

Also watch Jackie chan movies..I'd say cuts are still good when actually applied in an orderly matter

He must be using them "shredder" shotgun shells (essentially mini grenades) from the Last Boyscout.
I love that you referenced an under appreciated 90’s action gem.
hahah that shotgun sounds like a fukin cannon
As they say Woo is the BOSS
Tequila is the Babayaga of John Wicks
1:04 there is a cut, and you can clearly see that a body and blood is missing when they enter in the elevator. However, this is a masterpiece.

Who gives a crap. It's a great scene, better then the crap we get today
