For those wondering, there appear to be four concealed cuts in this scene. 0:51 - A man in a hat walks by covering almost the entire shot. 1:25 - A closeup of a poster, perfect place to hide a cut. 2:21 - Some people walk by, blocking the shot. 2:48 or 3:02 - A shot of a blank room and a transition through a window. Let me know if you find any more.

@@DunkIeosteus bird man has like 15 cuts by the end of the film. I would say the majority of it is “one” shot but bird man is a bad example because the ending does have obvious cutting. I think the first film to truly do it was Russian Ark, which was filmed completely in 3 takes (2 rehearsal I think). You also have Rope (1948) which was 9 takes (or setups in this case) that were edited together to make it seem like one (though it’s usually a simple fade to black by going behind a shirt or object). Then you have 1917, which seems like it is completely “one “ take. ( reason for quotation marks is it isn’t actually one take, but multiple takes that are seamlessly edited together to mimic a single take). But overall, they are all still fascinating in their own way.
+Dufffaaa93 Ive been studying this scene so many times already. Trying to determine not only the cuts but the copy and paste, cloning, CGI and other photoshop wonders they've done for this scene
+rycka1983 Hey hommie, i was in the movie as an extra, the 1:25 cut was made with a green screen "door" with marks, the camera crane stoped a few seconds after the entrance, and replaced with the interior of "Gran Hotel de México" wich contains a beautiful roof and elevator. the second cut was made with simple masking out another croma.
1:47 The gray-suited Mexican man in the elevator is actually a cameo by young Tenoch Huerta, the first actor to portray Namor the Sub-Mariner in a Marvel Comics movie.
Why...? Nothing fucking happened. There's way more single shot takes where fuck loads of choreography, stunts, all sorts of shit going on. This scene? A guy... walking. Yeaaaa, you need to see some actually good movies.

Spectre has the best pre title sequence in the Craig era i think. Casino Royale and Skyfall have epic title sequences while NTTD has a lengthy and action packed opening. Quantum of Solace has an interesting but much too fast opening. But the effort and colour put into this and in addition the camera work make this the most memorable opening.
Anyone noticed that percussion sound used matches perfectly with the band and the female singer performing at the venue. Same tempo. It's the scene where they arejust entering the room together. Brilliant! Oh and the camera work in this scene! Magnificent!

This is how a Hitman film should open. 47 in a disguise in the middle of a job, being smooth and precise; a good character intro. Minus the woman of course
Bond is standing stock still so your eyes are drawn to him in the throng from 0:20 despite being tiny at that point. Superbly planned and executed screenplay and photography.
Nobody is commenting on how seamless this was shot from the beginning. Outstanding Camera work and planning execution. Sometimes things are just so good that they are overlooked because they are invisible.
Always been a fan of Bond but after watching CASINO ROYAL I was a whole air conditioner. Hands down. What a time to be alive Daniel is the best bond ever. He will surely be missed.
I'm so glad that tracking shots have replaced shaky cam and dutch angles as the new film technique fad. Tracking shots are pleasant to the eye. The other two just make me want to throw up in the theater. (Seeing the first Hunger Games movie in IMAX was not a pleasurable experience, even though I enjoyed the movie as a whole. So much shaky-cam...) I saw Spectre at the Seattle Cinerama and by the time this shot was over, I had already gotten my money's worth. (But I went ahead and enjoyed the rest of the movie anyway.)
I just read up on this. First cut is at 1:25, second cut is at 2:21 when the people walk past. Then the room is at Pinewood Studios and there's another cut at 3:01 when he goes out the window. And then some of that rooftop is CGI because the rig and movement would be impossible.
2:52-2:58 Great scene way it was done comical brilliant She gazes down to lay on the bed looking enchanting in the moment and poetically gazes up to see Bond’s with his suit on a gun strapp around his shoulder walking towards the window lol @ her facial reaction. Bond never came back & she would have never guessed how he made his exit that day from that city lol hands down great scene crafty shot. Her acting was brilliant as well
I heard in reality there is no parade like this in day of the dead. But in order to not disappoint the tourist that thought this was real, Mexico started the parade after the movie came out. Now that’s the true service.
It doesn't take away from the greatness of this shot at all, but it is not shot in one take. I counted at least 3-4 separate scenes stitched together. They're nearly seamless though, you have to be looking for them to see them. First stitch: 1:25 when they walk off the street into the hotel and the camera focuses on the poster for a moment. Second stitch: 2:22 when they're approaching the door to their room and a group of people pass by the camera (stitch happens as fourth person passes). Third stitch: 3:02 when he climbs out the hotel room window onto the ledge and the camera passes through the other window (though I'm less certain of this last one).
The most incredible thing about this scene is how amazing his walk is.

I do that.
This intro and music describes perfectly what Bond is. Great actor, great film, great legacy, great music. Classy, elegant, awesome.
Fun fact: This festival didn't exist when the movie was filmed, but it attracted so many tourists from all around the world that the government decided to organize one
Me reading this after going to see the festival...
And the "festival" happened this 2021
The festival has been happening for many centuries just not like this as a parade in mexico city.
The festival was the wednesday 2022
They got the idea to add a parade to the festival from the movie a member of the government saw it in the theater and thought it would be cool to add a parade to the festival

This was probably one of the coolest scenes throughout not just this Bond movie, but the hole Bond series. It sounded awesome in the cinema, and the music was brill.
+NunyVanstta135 Terrible reboot. Bloody awful. Bland. Craig has ruined Bond.

Thanks James Bond!
??
@Rakeesh Kolokolo you're wrong and should check your facts. Day of The Dead parade has never been held in Mexico City until this movie was released.
Rakeesh Kolokolo there’s a difference between day of the dead and a day of the dead parade. Dia de los muertos is a Mexican holiday, whilst the parade was created to celebrate it. Two different things.
Rakeesh Kolokolo yes, pls check facts! You are wrong! 🤦🏻♂️
That was a fuckin lie
Just for fact his leg was broken at this time and during this scene he was in extreme pain. Daniel Craig had two choices one whether to delay shooting for 9 months ( 12 weeks for physiotherapy alone for him to walk and run properly), He was back on set in 2 weeks. Daniel Criag will remain the best bond in entire series.
Yeah, I hope the next Bond is cast with careful consideration because it'll be tough to even match Daniel Craig.
@@VidVoyeur612 Same thing was said after Brosman left, who to me was the one I grew up with.
I think whoever is next should be a somewhat unknown actor so that they can "become" JB, instead of the problem that someone like Ryan Reynolds has now, in which he's forever Deadpool now, even when playing Detective Pikachu, you still herd Deadpool.
@@djdsf I mean, Daniel saved the franchise and that too by changing the presentation of the character on a whole. So the successor of Craig is the successor the savior of the Bond franchise.
Did you know Quentin Tarantino had a rough draft screenplay written of Casino Royale but he told the producers he’d only do it if Brosnan returned?

I must say that the music producers of this movie did such an incredible job. I remember watching the intro from the cinema and my god I felt the tension and adrenaline.
This scene is unbelievable... prolly my favorite bond scene... thr way he puts on the silencer as he is stepping over the building gaps all why walking chill and looking debonair... just outstanding
1:25 closeup it's because, in real life, it's not the same building where they got inside and the one with the stairs.
Hitchcock perfected the hidden break in Rope and Frankenheimer copied it in Ronin.
Look at these Film Study Dweebs. They watch the movie without really watching the movie. Take it all in rather than focusing on the process, must suck to watch a movie being focused on such silly things.

One of the most epic openings of all time.
This opening makes me wish somebody like Alfonso Cuaron did a Bond movie.
alongside Emmanuel Lubezski. that would be top-tier filmmaking.
I would like this a million times if I could. Cuaron would visually bring out the most badass looking bond film, and we’ll be wondering why the fuck is was so hard to do to begin with.
I mean, it would be strange for Cuarón to make this type of movie since for the most part his films are thought provoking, unique pieces of cinema and not full of action like a Bond movie, but considering his talent, he would certainly make one hell of a movie.
@@flavio7180 His blockbusters are top tier, he'd kill it
This was so smooth and absorbing, I didn't even catch that it was a single tracking shot.
It’s made to look like one but it’s multiple shots put together to make a single long one

Now this director doing an entire film like this called 1917.
Birdman (2014)
Yes, but thankfully with a better cinematographer. Deakins wipes the floor with Hoytema.
Badtanman that was Alejandro Inaritu
@@eliasyarnall8099 I know, but birdman is worth checking out since it's one-take (well presented that way)
Badtanman I’m not sure if you’re into foreign films, but Victoria (2015) is a true one take movie that’s also worth checking out.
4 minutes "without cuts", this was a test for what will become 1917.
Actually, the first place is "Tacuba" street and the door where they go inside the hotel is a store. The hotel is in another street next to the Zocalo. They made it like a single shot but are actually 3 diferent places
Where he says “I won’t be long” and walks out onto the ledge..... they have merged two shots into one there.
Look at his right wrist. Shirt cuff not showing as he says that, then it is showing when he walks out on to the ledge. The magic of movie making. 😉
Actually Birdman (2014) was the first movie to be all in a single shot with hidden cuts. Not 1917
There were many movies filmed earlier than Birdman with a single cut. Russian Ark is a great example
Because of this movie beginning, I really want to visit Mexico!!! Great culture experience!
Whenever YOU WILL BE WELCOME EVERY STATE HAS SOMETHING TO OFFER🌺💟

I loved this film. This scene was an absolutely amazing work of cinematography.
A one shot with only two hidden cuts. That's beautiful.

Amazing how the theme was blended in....Best James Bond theme ....
This, for me, ranks up there with Indy being chased by a giant stone ball as one of the best film opening sequences.
1:25 first cut
3:02 second cut
+Dufffaaa93 well done sir
+Dufffaaa93 Ive been studying this scene so many times already. Trying to determine not only the cuts but the copy and paste, cloning, CGI and other photoshop wonders they've done for this scene
ruizj2006 And what did you find out???
+rycka1983 stitching
+rycka1983 Hey hommie, i was in the movie as an extra, the 1:25 cut was made with a green screen "door" with marks, the camera crane stoped a few seconds after the entrance, and replaced with the interior of "Gran Hotel de México" wich contains a beautiful roof and elevator. the second cut was made with simple masking out another croma.
Very clever editing to make it appear as one continuous shot
The fact that he stills have his legs hurt while filming this scene makes this more epic
This film has aged well, I watched it for the second time yesterday and I thought it was much better than when I saw it in the cinema back then.
1:47 The gray-suited Mexican man in the elevator is actually a cameo by young Tenoch Huerta, the first actor to portray Namor the Sub-Mariner in a Marvel Comics movie.
Hahaha. She whispers something in his ear and the look he slowly turns and gives her under the skull mask is fire. 😅 Solid acting.
I actually really liked this movie. such a cool intro.
One of THE most badass scenes you will ever see in a film.

2:22 is possibly one as well as the guy walks in front of the camera
Abby J 2:57 is probably one too
Three: the poster, the man passing before they enter, and Craig exiting through the window.

Man. The suit just looks perfect on him.
Say what you will about this film, but this opening sequence is astonishing. Even the intro text had suspense.
Anyone noticed that percussion sound used matches perfectly with the band and the female singer performing at the venue. Same tempo. It's the scene where they arejust entering the room together. Brilliant! Oh and the camera work in this scene! Magnificent!

Bond is standing stock still so your eyes are drawn to him in the throng from 0:20 despite being tiny at that point.
Superbly planned and executed screenplay and photography.
That was a greatly done shot
Nobody is commenting on how seamless this was shot from the beginning. Outstanding Camera work and planning execution. Sometimes things are just so good that they are overlooked because they are invisible.
the camera work is astounding
I like the way Snrub thinks.
@I drink your milkshake Winter Soldier had a Bourne style directing. And it worked for that movie.

watching Spectre and No Time to Die really makes you appreciate how far the series has come in terms of action
I just read up on this. First cut is at 1:25, second cut is at 2:21 when the people walk past. Then the room is at Pinewood Studios and there's another cut at 3:01 when he goes out the window. And then some of that rooftop is CGI because the rig and movement would be impossible.
I'm pretty sure that cut around 2:21 isn't a cut, it would be difficult to make it look as streamlined as it is.
+Michael Challinoir Wow then, that's really cool, I'm impressed.
+HoustonProductions1 still managed to use long takes
+HoustonProductions1 Could something like that be filmed with a drone?
+RolasitalufanaiLT Yes but it would be noticed. I was thinking of a long big crane to take the shot at first but it was green screened.

Man, Bond in that skull mask looks so badass! 💀
I have to say, this is one of my favorite opening scenes from any of the Bond movies.
I just realised now why the scene is so compelling - It is one scene single scene with one camera. Genius.
I heard in reality there is no parade like this in day of the dead. But in order to not disappoint the tourist that thought this was real, Mexico started the parade after the movie came out.

And the music! Perfecto!
It's nice that evvverybody has got into it and are in fantastic costumes and it's not just most people in shorts taking selfies.
